  1. You live in the west (would say from but I don't remember if you from there or not!) and I just escaped the thin skinned west and had my first New England summer (southern girl that I am!) and I have developed a colorfully blunt and direct manner of communicating because of it no offense meant, but I don't exactly take shit like I used to and like I said, I had the spoiled southern girl literally beat outta me a few years back and saw the deep dark that exists in the greater dead family and since those experiences I feel obliged to loudly proclaim love and light (especially for DSO bc we dont let it get dark on this side of the street bc we make the ice petal flowers go revolving and evolving!) and not the pretentious bullshit kind, but the kind that makes some people a bit uncomfortable bc it comes from going thru the realms of hell on earth. One of my buddies died 2 days ago from dope OD- not the first and won't be the last. But remember that Jerry quote (imma paraphrase lol) about it's not the guns or the drugs or the cops that fuck shit up, it's us. remember, it's JUST US! haha the mick jagger and Bowie version of dancin in the streets just came on the in mcdonalds I'm resting the car at and it reminds me of the moment I first GOT THE DEAD and fell in love with DSO during second set at my first show- ahhhhhh! kiss kiss all over all your asses (dirty girl that I can't help being!)

  4. Son of a bitch that set list is off the charts. Would be hard to craft a list to hand to Jerry that would be any more satisfying than that. Palm Sunday trivia: It was played twice, on 3-18 and 3-19-78, both times on Palm Sunday. That's because the 3-18 encore started after midnight!

  5. Last comment.....I have much respect for all y'all on the bus. Many before me, and many will be after me. However, I have always given respect to those who put their efforts in. Who have kept the flame lit while others gave up, others moved on, and others like.me who just did not know. Thanks to many of you all who started this over a decade ago. Several decades.....your efforts are not forgotten here. Your stories always a gift, and your continued presence a signal that we are built to last. With out live in the dream it will never come true. Well all love...and the dream is real because of it!!

  6. You should never pick fights with girls especially one with a DSO Masters degree. Because, that’s right, the women are smarter. That’s right.

  7. Rude, you don't own the forums or the band or even, apparently, logic or an ability to actually read what I am saying. And u are still new to us. And u know what, I never saw Jerry and am not a deadhead I am just a silly unicorn star head that actually managed to piss you off and THAT is priceless. Good show to me I didn't say anything negative about DSO, I said how much fun I had, remember? just my opinions of the different textures of Jerry Band shows bc I have that vocabulary and conceptual awareness. How many people have you convinced to tour DSO? Glad I made you show your ass, cause someone needed to. Get a life, kid! (And sorry, Doc, for not just ignoring Rude, but with a name like his you would think he would have a thicker skin!!!) Kiss kiss.

  8. Dead tickets were way harder to come by than JGB tickets when the bus first came by my way in 77...but roommate in college convinced me to see Jerry band many times cause you get in the first 10 rows easy for like $6.50...AND SEE JERRY!!!! In retrospect.....smart, very smart

  9. Set 1 All Around This World [MISSING?] Friend of the Devil Stir It Up* Jack A Roe Wonderful World -- Skip lead vocals w/ Tonya the road manager Big Boss Man Sitting In Limbo Masters of War* -- Lisa vocals It's Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry Bird Song* Set 2 Dupree's Diamond Blues Mountains of the Moon Sing Your Blues Away* Dire Wolf Box of Rain* Tomorrow is Forever* Rueben and Cherise* Russian Lullaby* Viola Lee Blues*--played in it's original jug band form Ripple Encores Uncle John's Band Goodnight Irene *Notable performance Very much enjoyed the show. It is never the high energy dance party of an electric, but still great stuff and you always get to hear some less common songs. I am sorry for Eaton's family situation. I did enjoy the different mix of songs due to his absence. The Masters of War was a real treat, and the Box of Rain was a very heartfelt rendition from Skip that stood out. I honestly forgot how good of a singer Skip is. Goodnight all

  11. I think what we have here is just an unfortunate choice of vocabulary on your part, Steph, as "junkie music" does feel like it has an unnecessarily bad connotation. That said, I think I know exactly what you refer to. Although I prefer to call it "narcotic tinged". When I think of that reference I'm usually thinking specifically of circa '79 through '82 JGB, where Jerry might play sets with as few as 4 or 5 songs that would all stretch to 15+ minutes. Much of this music is undoubtedly informed by his heroin use at that time. Bottom line: at the end of the day, anyway you slice it the passion shown on these forums is both wonderful and infectious.

  12. Rudes harmless and so are you. We all love the same thing. But....it's funny!! Hope we all can laugh at ourselves and realize, we all are here for the same thing. We just have different twist. Rude knows he's not the center of the world. That is reserved for a Sun!!! Haha..... Good to hear you made this eastern run. Glad y'all are keeping each other on your toes. Will be on my toes in Raleigh tommorow. Hopefully with the modified 2 step to some cowboy music. Welcome back Eaton!!

  14. Damn, church was good Tonite. We got the gospel good love tonight in Charleston. Thank you DSO for this JGB run that has been by far the most memorable run with good people I can remember. I feel like I need to be baptized in a river.

  15. $10.00 a show at The Stone right before the Chinese New Years shows in 1987. Sat and Sun. only convinced one other in our group to go out ahead. Damn well better believe those Stone shows blew doors off of the Civic Auditorium shows with GD later that week. $15.00 a show for the Wiltern later in 87 on Friday March 13 and 14th. Two full sets in a place as big as a living room for $10.00, tell me Jerry didn't love to play. One of the most underrated aspects of JGB was John Kahn, the mighty KAHN!!!!

  17. Agree. Jerry band was an oasis when dead was getting weak after Brent died. I remember feeling the gospel thing at those shows. I also enjoy what Jerry did with Grisman at that time. That was Jerry going home. Just like when he suggested going back to their roots when they produced American beauty and Workingman's. Can't forget old and in the way, Reckoning. Jerry started on banjo, right? He grew up listening to his grandmothers radio tuned in to Bill munroe and the bluegrass boys. I think that's what you get with Jerry band. His roots. What he really likes. That's just the way I feel.

  19. Last night was an easy trip up the mountain after work. Nice crowd, a little older median age than last year. Kind spaces to move and dance in. The sound was good most everywhere except when I was drawn in like a moth to the flame with some stellar sounds I had to find the sweet spot. No drunks. The show- nice opener. Let’s just get this straight what we are about- hanging out and enjoying this music that is so dear and having a happy time. No time to hate! Althea had a repeated lyric- No one is thinking less and less about the love we bring evidently. Pockey way was HOT!!! Just ripping and soulful. 💕 mahalo nui loa. i had the unfortunate task of being around a Masters of War mentality Monday night sitting among the parent fans of the visiting team. I was torn up emotionally by their complaining and judgements. This song felt like a reply. An answer to this sickness. Powerful delivery. Right on time. Pride of C. had a fantastic jam. Just a heavy a throw down as the melody is cheerfully upbeat. Oh and I heard an alternate lyric in Tough Mama too. Something about sweet goddess- time to call the other line or of the sort. Dunno... HSF. Barraco worked overtime imho holding the rhythm in Franklins and it was amazing to behold. The long musical relationship with Jeff left nothing to be desired in the jam. They held the space for each other so well. That being said, that level of playing must be rather demanding. Glad they have the day off!. The set just kept growing from there. I wandered up front looking for my friend Rose. Always up for some tribal drum dancing, I was throwing it down up front when she found me. Space unfolds and she shows up by my side. As I help her remove a layer, her starry shirt is revealed as Dark Star begins. We reminisce about Hampton 89. Well - that is Rose for you!!! The encores Just peaked out the night!! Thanks DSO! 💖🌸 so love dancing it out with you. Peace and much affection for the joy you live and bring.

  20. Ah! Positively and my Silver Angel song so glad I sent people this way from the roads less traveled! We are headed home via Arkansas..... in Mississippi now lmao- never do we go in straight lines or even the right direction! But we do find our own way home sucks his broken heel led us to not make our anniversary tour, save a single night. Can't think of a time I have ever seen only one night of a tour..... even after my first show at the variety (yeah, I only want em to play there bc of personal nostalgia, hate me if ya feel it helps!) I made it to the orange peel a few days later..... got a darkstar that night and it's all I remember cause was my first experience with why these guys stole my face and heart from the beginning. but it's cool. It's cool to have seen so many new faces appear and hang around a bit over the years. 9 years of DSO and they are still what takes me home every time in every way. Even though they made me quit my day job in the first year- by second year my night job of selling rocks (my how I have evolved from vending to simply giving everything away- much to he dismay of every guy I ever dragged along with me, save this one!) paid. And since I have very few needs and am generally agreeable to uncomfortable circumstances, it only gets easier. but a broken heel- that's a bitch. Really it's the getting in and out of the venue and the smoking area that kills it. We been calling this year Hospital Tour 2018. But feeding the greater, larger family has become just as important to my life work as getting my unicorn silliness in and spinning around the front row. We have a giant, extended family of which the DSO Dork Stars will always hold the most tender spot of my heart. And I will always appear at random when you least expect even when I'm not physically there. My ubiquity and the doppelgänger effect allow these things in the wibbly wobbly timey wimeyness that is the world DSO creates with their quantum ass transcendence. But I really had to move. Deadication requires it. How can I find the other ones I gotta send home to DSO if I ain't out under bridges and on street corners and all the other dark places that many of you will never go? Shining my light when y'all already got your own you are content with isn't my job. It's lighting all those candles no one else is gonna even see. I hope we all keep on growing. Kiss kiss, see ya at the next show (cause it's the best one!)
