  2. 69/02/07 Stanley Theatre, Pittsburgh, PA Dark Star>St. Stephen>William Tell Bridge> The Eleven>Lovelight. Cryptical>Other One>Cryptical>Death Don't Have No Mercy>Alligator>China Cat Jam> Caution>Feed Back>Bid You Goodnight. Filler: Easy Wind, Strange Man, Hard to Handle, Love the One Your With, Tore Up. This one was not to be believed. First standard early 69 fare, the Star stretched a little more than Napa, Eleven elevating, Rob strong on the Lovelight. Second the real face melter from first notes of Cryptical, Death Don't popped the lid on the insane closing sequence, Caution went deep. I absolutely lost my mind during the Easy Wind, the filler much like Napa killed. Spent the evening with many loved friends. Thanks Band and Crew. Praise DSO.

  3. what’s wrong with Lafitte 55 ? 😉 I wish all of you were there the last two nights. From my seat, it doesn’t get any better. More like a fine Burgundy, though 😉 oh before I forget, the 69 from a few nights ago. 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀 back to your regularly scheduled program 😉

  7. Show #438: Been a while since I got caught a pure 69 show like this. Sometimes getting hit with Dark Star as the opener can be a shock but I was ready this time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole 1st set sequence. Does it get any better than Dark Star>St Stephen>11>Lovelight? This stuff flows through my blood and makes me move in different ways. The venue- XL live - added a new "VIP" area this time around. It conveniently cut our usual open dance space down by 2/3s. But looking at the stage set up and knowing what we were in for I knew that all obstacles must be transcended. Sometimes the conscious choice to have fun- to be a conscious creator in that process- can make all the difference. Heck, maybe it is all the difference- what we bring to the party. I felt free last night. The music was beyond phenomenal- what is there even to say about it? They do keep refining ever further, tapping into deeper levels of mastery, coalescing into one mind. Such a pleasure to be a part of this. The Filler songs were so fun- esp Hard to Handle for me. "love the one you're with" was dedicated to me . Looks like that's it for me until the Jubilee. So good to dance with and see everyone that I did- sometimes I forget how good it is!

  9. THAT's the stuff right there. I'm sure it had many walkin on sunshine! Up until the filler, think about how much actual singing happened 😁 The vocal chords got some reprieve - except for maybe Barraco given his slate. After 23 years of BillK522 chasing a 69 show and getting one, he gets another 1969 jolt less than 2 months later. I really like that new batting average! Couldn't have happened to a better guy 😀

  12. Awesome pair of shows! So very grateful they came yet hoped there would be more people. I fear they won't return if bringing the show to Hawaii isn't viable. Maybe Big Island? Feels like there are more heads there. Would fly in to see them again. If they do come back to us I'll buy extra tix and invite friends to come along. I like seeing younger people there, reminds me of those who turned me on in the 80's. Heartfelt Mahalo to DSO and crew. May the four winds blow you safely home!

  19. This was one of those shows that reminds me why I like to keep coming back. Amazing energy the entire show, especially Scarlet Fire, where everything expanded and you could feel the whole room lifting. Killer jam out of drums, ferocious entry into Johnny B Goode where I thought it was just the two step part of Aroundx2. Everyone I talked to post show and the following day mentioned the Scarlet Fire and how good it was 🔥🔥

I'm no sage but here's how this is likely to go: The case will be heard in 2026, any unfavorable findings will be appealed. In 2028, instead of Live Nation being broken apart, they will agree to establish a 10M fund as reparations to the ticket-buying public. After the attorneys get their cut, you can choose to receive a check for $7.26 or receive it as a $10 credit for your next Live Nation ticket purchase. Boy - I sure would love to be wrong on this one.

  24. 4-29-71 Hard To Handle, Filmore East. So after listening to this version of HTH for the umptenth time, I am professing this is some of Jerry’s best work. Still get chills all the way. He slays every nuance of this song. Pig is spot on. The band is in sync. I’d really love some honest feedback on this and songs/versions you think are better AND WHY? I wanna learn, but can’t get past how fucking good that is. (Ed is gonna bust my balls about his fav but I leave it to the experts…., you fine folks, ha!) please, you have to listen before responding, it’s on archive or ladies and gentlemen the Grateful Dead release. 26. This was the 2nd total eclipse I’ve had in my back yard in 7 years. There’s not much like a total eclipse. Southern Illinois and western KY are in the x marks the spot double eclipse area even though this one was only 1:20 vs the 2:25 we had in 2017. The last few seconds before a ripple of light starts to move over the ground as all the light becomes from the flares. Then darkness out. At around 95% covered everything becomes surreal looking. A minute before it went total Jonathan wanted to look at it so had to take him inside to not get his corneas burned like the 500 people last eclipse. Your eyes don’t automatically close like with the sun out. But the 500 people with a tiny strip of sun burnt into their corneas after the last one will tell you don’t look. Once it went full brought him out to see. He’s a moon fanatic anyway. Any time a moon shows up in any movie you get the “daddy moon. Moon daddy”. Cheers. oh and you could see stars and planets during the full.

  29. Encouraged and somewhat challenged, I started with the 5:10 min from 3/15/69 and the last 7:32 from 8/26/71 and listened going back and and forth from these bookends quickly realizing that you two have found the most enjoyable H2H's. (I'm open to any others from the mega drive search)Thanks for the lead though because I got to see how quickly Keith came in to play and understand the introduction of the 5 new songs in consideration of Pigpen's lost material. The five new ones became as paramount from 71-79 as pigpen's were from 65-71 and then similarly with Brent's new material from 79-90. Not so with Vince's 90-95.

  30. Pass the whiskey round. Like serious. You drunk mother fuckers ate hogging it all. 4/29/71 is just too short. Sorry. 9 minutes isn’t enough to tell a tale. For non heads 9 minutes is extremism but it leaves too much on the table for me. on the 8/6/71 I have 4 sources from the John A mega drive but only 3 have the hard to handle as dicks picks volume 35 excludes it so I need to listen to all 3 but not sure 7:48 will do it either. Did the dead not play a 15 min hard to handle? Has Dso played an expanded one? I’m sorta confused. I thought there were many really long ones but I can’t seem to find any. I guess I never really think about the length of a few songs. Good lord I need to listen to more shows again but I get “no dance daddy. No dance”. We aren’t dancing. I’m playing music. “No dance daddy!!!!!!” Peace. Bed calls

  31. https://archive.org/details/gd84-04-06.sbd.willy.10159.sbeok.shnf Fortunately I was able to catch my 3rd show because someone decided not to go at a Friday night house party in Laramie, Wyoming and I took my friend Tim up on the suddenly available Sat night Grateful Dead ticket for the Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas. This adventure was about the road trip. 780 miles each way and having to be back in class by Monday morning. My first two were about seeing the Grateful Dead and were only in Morrison, CO, 9/7 & 9/8/83 a mere 2 1/2 drive from UW. My fourth show was about both the road trip and the excitement of seeing the band again in Syracuse fall of '84. By then I was enrolled in college back in Cincinnati in the professional drama program CCM offered @ UC. As you listen to the end of this show picture Bobby sitting on the edge of the stage swinging his legs back and forth during SSDD🎉🎶🔥⚡also a real drippy space only a week before the last Dark Star for five years. I didn't get my first HSF until it was revived by the Warlocks in '89, even then it took me until 1990 having not gone to 9/6/83😞. But now all is good with DSO keeping things in progress! This here is an outstanding DSDB. Give a whirl without looking at the setlists... there's an unusual surprise after d/s (Edited 4/8/24)~ the comments under this archive recording tell about how closely the band was connected to the audience and illustrate the dedication of the audience to the scene and the band to the audience)

  32. I found a website once that had the songs that the Grateful Dead played listed in the order of number of times played, from Drums/Space, Me and My Uncle right on down to quite a few that were only played once. The end of that list is quite intriguing. Some are associated with one off benefit shows with other artists on stage with them. Some, like the Master’s Bouquet are from spontaneous acoustic shows. I’m fascinated with the songs they tried and decided to shelve after just a few attempts. If I Had the World to Give is kinda the holy grail with Jerry giving it three tries. Woulda been nice to see him get that worked out like he did with Visions of Johanna. Late in the game creaky voiced Jerry would have done that one justice. I think. That’s what’s so beautiful about Dark Star Orchestra. We get to have these songs. It Makes No Difference would be sweet to catch.

  35. I was at band practice last Thursday night when a friend showed me one of his bootleg dead albums asking if I could find out what show it was from. Both albums had blank white labels on both sides and the cardboard cover was also blank white. He really wanted me to listen to the Little Red Rooster (with both Jerry and Bobby playing slide at the same time) declaring it possibly the best LR Rooster he'd ever heard! One album side was LR Rooster, China>Rider (sounded 80ish, so we figured that was the end of the first set) , the second album side had: Playing>Comes A Time>Playing (figured outta drums), third album side was EST>Eyes> drums, and the fourth album side was 0+0>Alabama Getaway (which we figured the AG to be an encore). Well tonight I looked into Deadbase quickly identifying his 4 bootleg album show to be Uptown Theater 8/19/80 after finding out Comes A Times was only played 7 times in 1980. Turns out he was kinda correct about that LR Rooster as it was the first one played since 1965. Give the 8/19/80 Rooster a listen to hear it before it became Bobby's slide song.

  43. March 7th at the Sigal Music Museum in Greenville, SC, I enjoyed an incredibly beautiful concert featuring the Handpan. The collection of musicians from US and one from Japan named Resound Handpan House played their original compositions, individually composed and those composed together since late February . What a gem in Greenville is this Sigal Music Museum. ! The extensive instrument collection contains ones played by Mozart, a gift from King George 3 to Queen Victoria, and played by Chopin. A harpsichord in the collection was made for General Lafayette for his return to US. here is a link to a past show for the band if you are interested in checking out the individual players. Adam Maalouf had a frame drum that he tuned with a bicycle pump. It had a built in inter tube?! Brilliant https://stagehoundtix.com/events/resound-handpan-house

Culminating with the final closer on that 11-2-84 BCT show. It there would only be one more in set 2, that '93 Meadowlands show. Fascinating, for geeks at least. Also, there were 27 Need a Miracle -> Bertha -> Good Lovin', beginning shortly after 3 passes of a Miracle set 1 closer followed by a Bertha -> Good Lovin' set 2 opener. Took a few tries for them get it just exactly perfect. 😁
