  1. 22/05/12 Sherman Theater, Stroudsburg, PA Original Recipe Promised Land, Brown-Eyed Women, All Over Now, Dire Wolf, Tom Thumb Blues, Brother Esau, Row Jimmy, Passenger, Candyman, Feel Like A Stranger. Gimme Some Lovin'. Ship of Fools, Estimated Prophet> Jam>Dark*Star>Drums>Space>Imagine Space> Reuben and Cherise>Watchtower>World to Give> Johnny B. Goode. E; Werewolves of London Locomotive comes roaring out of the station in a quaint old theater on mild Thursday evening in North East PA. Spent the first on the rail, a lovely position to watch the set unfold. Bob selections just mashed, funky intro to the All Over Now, Esau a romp, I dig Passenger in a big way, Stranger a strong set close. GSL fun drop to the second, solid Estimated. The Jam into the Star a sight to behold and a highlight of the evening. I lost my marbles on the Reuben, dreamy placement in the set. The ride home professionally delivered. Band just hit the ground running, look out May. Praise DSO.

  2. The whole band received this this morning At 80 I was probably the oldest one in the audience so maybe my comments will be dismissed. But I've had many years listening to the Dead and for the past few years listening to you guys. I've always been impressed with your shows but Monday's show hit another level. Had that have been the Dead who performed it, it would have been treasured as one of the classics. I am still on a high. Thanks for an incredible evening and thanks to the crew for an impeccable set list. What way to keep this music alive and to honor the memory of those who first got on the bus. God Bless you all. Lou Ruprecht;-))

  3. Keep politics out of Grateful Dead. Both sides are stupid and corrupt. If you fully buy into either side....well, i think it's dumb. Never gonna solve any problems in the world so long as we allow ourselves to be polarized. Us vs. Them is actually Us vs. Ourselves.

  4. So I borrowed and updated Bobs "Let Trey Sing" T-Shirt idea for my DSO Columbia Speedway Show. I have always been a huge Lisa Fan (and Donna too) so I had a "Let Lisa Sing" t-shirt custom made. Fortunately for me, our "Pod" was next to the sound board and the soundman (Conners?) seen my shirt and took a photo and said he would forward it to Lisa. I told him to let her know I want a photo with her, this was 30 min prior to show starting. So 7:PM come around and no photo op so I got as close to the stage as I dared until Lisa seen my shirt. She smiled and waved in appreciation so happy with that, I returned to our assigned POD. Now fast forward to intermission and my friends and I were sitting and talking then behind me I hear someone say "alright lets do this". When I turned around imagine my surprise to see Lisa standing there! I jumped to my feet and my friend Scarlett quickly grabbed her cell phone and I got my photo with Lisa! Yes Lisa did sing her usual backing vocals as it was an elective set then for the encore she belted out The Stranger! Wow!!! Lisa, thank you for making my night! You (and all the fellas in the band) are just awesome every time!

  8. 22/03/26 The National, Richmond, VA Original Recipe Set One St. Stephen>Not Fade Away>St. Stephen, Corinna, So Many Roads, Masterpiece, Who Was John, You Ain't Women Enough, Broken Arrow, Bird Song> Not Fade Away. Set Two Scarlet Begonias>Fire On the Mountain, Women Are Smarter>Gimme Some Lovin'>He's Gone>Drums> Space>Low Spark>Standing on the Moon, One More Saturday Night. E: The Weight, White Rabbit. Rob Barraco's stool breaks after YAWE. Happy Birthday for attendee before Scarlet. Saturday tour closer in combination with the all powerful elective proves to be a lethal combination for a sold out venue in Richmond. First set a layer cake of delight, the St. Stephen jumping off a joy. Later material lovingly delivered. Thankfully Rob Ok after stool gives out from under him after Woman Enough. Bird Song drove me to Balcony hall for unlimited space and the pop back into NFA a nice first set bow. Called the Scarlet>Fire on the Metro coming home from Anthem, it did not disappoint. After a few steps with Meili during the Women, popped Rude into my balcony aisle floorspace and retreated to the hallway. Low Spark a fully developed slinky journey. Standing on the Moon spiritual ecstasy, Saturday Nite a ripping close. Double encore the cherry on top of this monster. I spent the evening with dear friends old and new, I love every one of you. Much thanks band and crew, enjoy a couple days of rest. Praise DSO.

  9. That was the stuff birthday show dreams are made of. Thanks to a great group of folks, including DSO and crew that made it a weekend to remember. ps: my last birthday show was in 1988 and they played an 88 show (duh) and my second birthday show was in 2021 and they played a 77 show. Maybe my next one will be 2030 and Iā€™ll get a 69!!

  10. I have completed upgrading the Forums. There were security improvement and improved Spam Detection. I upgraded the core system, and the flowing Add On Applications and "Plugins" Video System (I seem to be the only one who really likes it),the Community Map and the Birthday Greeter There are some things I like ... and some that I don't. For the most part you won't notice a lot of difference. One big thing (maybe, I don't know) I have remove the "Soft Blue theme. I really liked it but the authors of it weren't very good about upgrading it to work with Invision (Authors of forum software) upgrades. They were excellent about collecting license fees automatically. I may have been the only one using it anyway One thing I'm sure you will notice is the new icons on your Avatar when you post. This is one of the changes I'm not so sure about (for one thing not totally sure how it works (until I see it in action)). It is what they call Achievements, it is a ranking system where you get points for, well, about everything you do. 13. There has been so many good times with herdy throughout the years. Nelsons Ledges was always memorable but one night I remember most... I remember a show many years ago I don't remember the venue but I think it was a Sunday and on the drive home I had to Swerve to avoid hitting Amish in their buggies. They should put lights on those things. After 400+ shows I don't remember much but this night was special. I remember it like yesterday. Anyway this was before I really knew herdy, we would see each other at shows and say hey but never had a real conversation. I drove to the show myself and when I got there hours before the showtime the only other person from forums that was there was herdy. We sat down and talked. For a couple of hours we talked about life death and music, we shared laughter and tears. 2 hours of alternate laughing and crying... Herdy was truly a vision of me at that age. I will always remember his laughter when I said come over to the car and I pulled out a picture of me when I was 18 years old and he saw the likeness. We became soul brothers that night... Years later before he move to Colorado during a difficult time of his life he reached out to me with stuff I have experience with. Again we shared laughter and tears... I will forever miss you my soul brother...

  14. Well I donā€™t post much but feel I should say something here!. we musicians, stage hands, sound and light designers etc have been hit harder economically then most people. We have a capacity of 480 people spread out over 8 shows. We need to pay bills and now unemployment is dried up and we are asking for support from 480 people to help us get through March... itā€™s depressing to see how fast some people forget that others may be suffering more. peace Rob Eaton PS) 1/2 the tickets sold in 6 hours from going on sale.. and we all thank those who bought tickets and are helping us survive

  15. Over the years, I have seen a ridiculous amount of shows but have only done one entire tour start to finish. The most recent SE tour was the one!! 3 of us did the entire tour along with the band and crew. BTW, before I go any further, thanks to DSO for all that you do. Its' not easy! Yes, you get paid but it is a grind! Truthfully, I am blown away with their amazing attitude and willingness to put on excellent shows night in and night out! AMAZING! 4400 miles give or take, starting in Wilmington, DE, 14 shows total to include Bobby and the Wolf Bros ( Jacksonville, Florida ) the night before DSO's opener in St. Pete, Florida. My favorite venues were St. Augustine, Florida, Pompano Beach, Florida ( been there multiple times to see DSO before ), Tallahassee, Florida and Wilmington, NC ( been there for DSO as well ). Of the 14 venues, St. Augustine, Tallahassee, Birmingham and Nashville were the only new venues for me. Alabama and Tennessee were 2 states I had never seen DSO in ( after 18 years ) ! 3 venues I did not care for were Asheville ( Orange Peel ) and Charlotte ( Fillmore ). Asheville's employees are cool but the place is always packed with little dance room ( boo ) and Charlotte's employees are a mess but overall room is ok....Raleigh also has employees I am not fond of but am okay with the room. The rest of the venues I like! My favorite show was St. Augustine. I felt the band was feeling it that night and after speaking with a few band members to include Cotter, they felt the same. All the shows were good but that was my favorite. The trip was shared with many friends. My best buddy was with me the entire time, Luna, my pup. She is a kind dog, loving and patient. She was ready to be off the road at the end as was I. Luckily for both of us, she and I share an RV which gives her a comfortable place to rest during the shows. The weather was unbelievable the entire time. Never a night did I need AC at all and only checked into one RV campground in Nashville. Thanks To Chris and Nina for being around for every show as well... These two kids are good people and fun to be with and truly DEADicated. I met 4 new people on this tour who apparently do their fair of shows but had never met them before for some reason? Cynthia, Renee, Tatiana and Adrian, I look forward to dancing with you all again...Thanks for sharing your space with me!! It meant a lot! Sammy, Aaron and Carl all drove down for the first 5 shows in Florida which were my favorite shows for so many reasons. Scotty flew into south Florida to hook up with Tatiana and Adrian. They did the 2 Bobby shows to include the first 5 DSO shows as well! My great friend Kevin and his wife were at St. Augustine only but I was able to stay with them for several nights in Jacksonville so that was nice. Rick and Whitney did several of the Florida shows and had their beautiful girl with them..OMG!!! The Perrottis were at the majority of the Florida shows ( love this family so much ) but had to run their deli each day so talk about a grind, back and forth from Orlando to each show each night!!! I put so much value on the Florida DSO runs because of my long friendship with this amazing family! Steve, Carrie and a bunch of other Sand Jammers were along for a few of the shows. I run into Sand Jammers everywhere... They must think I'm crazy, seeing me pretty much everywhere? Nantucket, John and Debbie all flew in for one show..Nantucket, St. Pete, John and Debbie, Pompano!! Awesome!! My buddy Gary from Jam Cruise, his cousin David Jonas ( friends with John, Debbie, Jeff Mattson and Cotter ) both went to Pompano as well...Nice meeting David and having Gary along. Gary and I played golf the next day which was superb. Brian also flew in for first 4 shows as well. THANKS so much to Jay Price for his kindness and generosity. Jay was able to do the last 8 out of 9 shows. I have an amazing time with this guy every time. He is a GRATE guy. His favorite show was Raleigh! ...Mar, Jerry and his wife were at several of the Florida shows....also, Frank...he flew in from Colorado for the first 4 shows as well. I love our family! I have met hundreds of people over the years and funny enough, have introduced many of these awesome people to each other and feel lucky to know each and every one of you. Rude and Meli made it to one show. Jen and Joe were at a few. Tea was at a few..Steph at one... Geez, I know I am forgetting some folks and feel bad about it Anyway, I felt like I had to put this together after doing my first entire tour in 18 years...I figure I have seen somewhere between 500-600 dso shows...I know, big discrepancy there but its been so many...only 239 GD shows but dso has been an obsession but pleazin... BTW, the best dancing along the way....St. Augustine, Orlando ( Matt and Elle were both rocking it hard in Orlando ) and Atlanta.....so much good!!!! BTW, thanks to Matt, the new tour manager...what a GRATE guy. DSO is lucky to have him and so are all of us... LOVE you all.. Peace.

  17. You know the night is epic when you pull up to Taco Bell after the show and they start with welcome to Pizza Hut may I take your order. We eventually even got a welcome to good burger home of the good burger reference. Wow I could say a whole lot. I could say nothing at all. It really doesnā€™t matter. The magic of last night still radiates the core of my soul. I dont want to sound patronizing but I couldnā€™t be more proud of my band of our band. Just selling the place out was an achievement in itself but the music was beyond compare. The way you could feel estimated swirl around the Amphitheatre. The bounce of eyes flow through each row up and around the venue back down to the band. For the first time in awhile, I even feel the urge to spill my heart and bare my soul but alas I grew past that. I bore my soul here for myself so I could see it and experience my own growth but now my soul is bare where it needs to be. Im gonna be Dad in December.

  20. Likewise. I literally wore out at least 3 copies of that cassette, back in the old Maxell XLII 90 days. Funny story, longwinded but true, and related to this show: In 1983, I was a sophomore in college and punched my ticket on the bus in Hampton 4/9/83. Although I had been into the Dead's music since high school when I bought the Live Dead album, it took a bigger commitment to make the 12-15 hour drive from TN to the closest shows in Virginia and beyond. I did the Summer 83 east coast run, and in September, I felt like I hit the mail order lottery when I got a ticket for the NYE shows at the SF Civic. Following the NYE 81 Dark Star breakout and the NYE 82 Lovelight, Hard to Handle, Midnight Hour, etc, I arrogantly predicted a St Stephen breakout at New Years 83. I also started dating this woman, who liked to describe herself at the time as "an innocent girl in a pastel sweater with a sorority pin". She couldn't have identified the Dead in a police lineup, but she did like to make t-shirts! At my request, she hand-painted a black t-shirt with the logo: "St Stephen with a..." across the top, the iconic skeletal hand holding a rose in the center, and "New Year's '83" across the bottom. It was a beautiful shirt. For better or worse, i also talked her into riding with me and two buddies to her first shows at Richmond and Greensboro. She thought we were crazy for driving all night to see a band she'd never heard of, but she reluctantly agreed to go, only after I promised to have her back for her Monday morning classes following the Sunday show 10/9/83 (she was a much more serious student than I was). We had a great trip to two great shows and as a proud boyfriend, I donned her t-shirt for the first (and only) time at the Greensboro show. Hours before the show, they had opened the concourse to allow Heads to go in and out to use the facilities, though the interior doors were locked. Another friend of ours came up to us in the parking lot, put his finger on the rose across my chest and said "you know, they're sound checking that RIGHT NOW!." Since he was known to be a bit of a joker, I thought he was bullshitting us because we were so freaking high, and blew it off. After the show, I had my 'lady with a fan' moment, when joker friend told me he had an extra ticket to the next show at MSG 10/11/83 which was mine for the asking, provided I would drive him to NYC. Of course, that would mean breaking my promise and abandoning this cute girl, who was really high for the first time but wanted no part of missing a week's worth of classes. So my dilemma was: go on to the next show and never see her again or keep my word? Fast forward almost 40 years and 3 amazing kids later, we're still together, and she saw over 100 shows after we moved out to the Bay Area. Two of the kids were even with us at the DSO Cavern shows. BUT, I never saw St Stephen with Jerry. I had to wait until the Terrapin Station Reunion in Alpine 2002. (the first and only 'Goodnight Irene' on 12/31/83 was at least a consolation) I wouldn't dare change a thing, but every time I hear that 10/11/83 show, I can't help but wonder how drastically different my path would look if I'd been at MSG the first time around.

Where to begin, a Pig night to be sure. First set reaches flawlessly delivered, the sandwich, filling. After a great jump to the second, the business really picked up during the BBP/BBM combo. I thoroughly lost my marbles on that pair. Other One an epic journey, Stephen transcendental, the Pig Lovelight complete with all scat covered by Rob. Thanks band and crew. See you in Orlando. 25. My first 69 style show, this was a splendid night. This venue was excellent, full PA with great sound. Fall colors starting to show and nice weather with a brief and refreshing shower of light rain mid second set. There was a little trouble in the first couple songs, where the PA cut in and out and we could only hear the stage, but it was quickly fixed and caused no further troubles. Doin That Rag was sung with youthful exuberance. Dark Star was fantastic. Death Donā€™t was masterfully delivered, and Easy Wind broke the somber mood perfectly and finished the set out with fun. After a little break, Dancin got everyone on their feet, really high energy jam in there. My first time seeing them do Attics, great harmony singing with Skip soaring high. The final sequence was relentless, high energy throughout. Me and Jake persevered, but it was a battle of endurance to keep up. Perfect Ripple encore. Killer show and it was a thrill to see a full onslaught 69 style show for the first time. We had the pleasure of meeting Franknkeene after the show and he kindly offered us space to camp out at his place, thanks Frank!!

Great show to celebrate Scott and my 25th wedding anniversary and thanks to Rob E for announcing it, enjoyed celebrating with Ellie, Steve and Kris and Bix, made it extra special and the crowd was extremely sweet and huggable this night! Sound and music was absolutely incredible! Thank you so much!

  27. So the thing is... Every year, some time after Thanksgiving, Good ol' Granny would settle into her cabin in the woods and pull out her sewing supplies. Weeks she would spend in her rocking chair, slowly stitching away with needle and thread. It was never fully understood how stitching away on her scraps of fabric affected her,,but many unusual expressions were witnessed by family members during the winter season. While working her art, Granny was scene at times laughing, crying, content at times, a bit confused at times...even spotted a few times in an ecstatic state with her sewing supplies off to the side and up out of her chair with hands in the air and a grin from ear to ear.... Why,,ol' Uncle John even swears he witnessed a question mark float off of the top of her head and gradually disappear into the ethers up around the ceiling. The line between sanity and madness seemed a bit obscured at times with Granny,,but it didn't seem to matter because her sewing project would keep her grounded and focused throughout the winter season... After spending the year gathering scraps of old cloth, worn out clothing, and special pieces of fabric from her monthly trips into town,,Granny always appeared to be giddy with anticipation to create her winter art piece... Come Imbolc, in early February, half way between winter solstice and spring equinox, Granny would pull together the family for what was clearly her favorite celebration of the year...the birth of spring. Each year after an abundant and noirishing meal together the entire family would slip into an evening of laughter, libations, play, and music. With ol' Uncle John ripping away on his fiddle.,,the time would finally come for Granny to offer her winter creation. Out of the back room she would come,,beaming, with the brightest of smiles... With all the family focused on her in awe and appreciation she would unfold and present the most beautiful quilt that eyes have ever seen...full of color, integrity and beauty....Tears of joy would be shed by all who were present, including Granny herself as the quilt was passed around and admired by all... That quilt...was this show...full of soul, color, time and timelessness, sadness, joy, beauty and meaning... 2/11/19 DSO,Eugene, Oregon,,, Thank you kindly...

  28. This was our first DSO show and my wife and I, both GD veterans, were quite blown away with the quality of the experience. The curfew thing was a bit of a bummer but the band handled it really well. The Morning Dew in the second set crushed! We ended up wandering into a bar in Ojai with a great live band and "the music never stopped." We are new converts to DSO and are heading to one of the Berkeley shows!

  29. First post, not the last: As a Germanhead I want to express my deepest gratitude for making this European tour happen. We do not get much dead music over here, so this was something very special. Following the tour from Paris to Berlin, I met so many great people and danced my ass off. All shows were killer and I couldn't have asked more from DSO. What a great band! And big up to all the American heads who made it over. You rock! Hit me up via DM if we forgot to exchange numbers. Meanwhile I am continuing to listen to 72 Dead. See you down the road! Chris (blue baseball cap, swearing, very loud, German)

  31. Absolutely perfect. Did GA as always just because I wanna hear every band. Plus the haul in and out sucks, but it ainā€™t so bad with a wagon. 3 trips up and down the hill and we didnā€™t have to move for 3 days. Heard all bands, only went to stage for DSO and a handful of others but what a weekend. Finally got a couple of buddies to come along plus Sammy and I think they may be for sure future attendees. So laid back. We camped next to VIP entrance in GA and used VIP facilities 30yds away all weekend w/no hassle. Stayed away from the mud (mostly) and had one hell of a music filled weekend. Cooked big Ol breakfasts, then ate disco at night, slept like a baby all 3 nights. Swear I get my best sleep in some field in a tent. Lol But of course the universe had to even things out and dump some shit on us Monday as we had a blowout on the way home. Luckily we had just crossed into KY. I believe that was the difference between being searched if weā€™d have been in Ohio, but in KY the cop was just glad we didnā€™t want his help and left us alone. šŸ¤£šŸ˜† Rim was seized to the drum and it took over 2 hours to get the flat off to change the tire. Overall still a great weekend. Got tire fixed and oil changed and me and luke are camping Deercreek for phish next weekend. Caverns/Jubilee/Phish 3 weekends in a row and then Iā€™m gonna need a break.

  32. Fun elective to start the tour. Was feeling 83ish save for a couple early hints. Obvious elective by the time Reuben and cherish and world to give came around. thought the band had some solid chemistry, each member bringing something to fill the space between one another. Hot promised land start with an extended guitar solo. Strong finish with the row Jimmy, candyman and a really greasy stranger. second set hit the spot pretty well. Particularly liked the ship of fools, imagine space, and world to give. felt great getting back out there and seeing this band. Hereā€™s to many more shows down the road.

  33. 22/04/02 Palace Theater, Albany, NY Original Recipe Set One Hell In A Bucket, Let It Rock, Masterpiece, Loser Cumberland Blues, I'll Take A Melody, Deal, Masters of War, Box of Rain, One More Saturday Nite. Set Two Here Comes Sunshine>Greatest Story, Revolution, Feel Like A Stranger>Drums>Space>Corinna> Help on the Way>Throwin' Stones>Days Between> Slipknot>Franklin's Tower. E: Brokedown Palace. Well constructed elective sweeps up all in a journey of happiness and joy in the shadow of the NYE celebration on Friday. After struggling to find center at times during the first set, deep family love permeates the upper reaches of the balcony to deliver what we all hope to get out of a day on tour with DSO. Bucket a raucous flag drop to the proceedings, JGB selections a treat, the Melody especially fulfilling. The Cumberland its typical hoedown self. Lisa strong on the Masters, a commentary on world events that continued throughout the show. Saturday Nite a fine first set close. Sunshine a lovely choice, Skip especially strong. Old school Story with Lisa on vocals toward the end. Interesting placement on Revolution and Stranger--both worked well, the Stranger a sweat breaker heading into Drums, which were exceptional. Rob taking a solo for the last 5 minutes or so on the beam. Obviously Rob loves the Corinna, another different slot that was productive. Closing sandwich dreamy, the Days hypnotizing. The Franklin's a smile factory and boogie fest. Called the Brokedown at Cafe Madison during breakfast. I spent the evening with the best friends one could hope to dance with, I love each and everyone of you. Thanks Band and Crew, enjoy a few days off and safe travels to Skull and Roses. Praise DSO.

Set Two Ramble On Rose, Me & My Uncle>Other One> Mexicali>Other One>Wharf Rat, Casey Jones. E: Johnny B. Goode. Filler: Loose Lucy, Tangled Up In Blue. 50th anniversary of this performance from NYC. Big crowd and a plethora of energetic dancers occupied the second floor of the joint. Typical 71 fare, love Mr. Charlie, interesting placement of the Comes A Time, the closing triad a sweeping panoramic of color and spin. Have been hoping to catch the Smokestack and got the stand alone one here, which killed Pig style. After dipping a toe in the water for a pair in the second, Other One realizes full power, slowed temporarily by the Mexicali. By the Casey things had cleared out, we had an amazing group left on the dance floor that gobbled new found real estate. Exceptional filler, Jeff really nails Tangled and thought of Tea several times during that one. Great fun. On to St Petersburg. Praise DSO.

  37. I guess I do have a comment,, Regardless of my personal musical preferences I have tried to maintain the perspective that the more Grateful Dead music that is being played, the better. Our lost, spiritually devoid American culture needs bright spots sprinkled in it where people can feel truly free and connected and in a community steeped in kindness, respect, and fun. So even if I donā€™t hit up D and C much, I am thankful they are out there helping people have a great time and fully enjoying themselvesā€¦ Let there be songs, to fill the air

  38. Goes to show you don't ever know! As I sit here reflecting on the weekend and thinking forward to the next, I feel so happy when I get to see my favorite band and people. You never know how things are going to unfold. I had been planning on going to Bonnaroo with my daughter, camping in my Westie, and made preparations for such activity. Alas, the hurricane has made it a mute point - damn- but unknown of course, I came to Asheville early on Thursday for the loveliest time and then picked up my van freshly serviced. A relay switch had gone bad not allowing it to run or charge via shore power. I was understandably freaked!! My Hurdy Gurdy girl is running like a dream now. Parking brake tighten. She has power. All fluids checked and changed as needed. sigh..... FlairBlair and his wife brought me back up and I was stoked to make the shows. It meant however after a long week of unblinking mental focus I was ready to relax into the weekend. Friday was the perfect warmup for this show!! The second night was where it was at. Truly, I felt a part of the magnificence that 1977 delivers. Thank you band and crew!! After the confinement of the Louisville rows of seating, the Salvage Station was a blessed and welcomed change. I had the freedom to unfurl my wings. Food trucks lined the riverside and I munched through a taco before the elements or the start of music could persuade me otherwise. Oh man! HSF!! I literally was munching the last bite down and dancing in the eaves. The band was hitting all cylinders as powerfully as they ever have. The transition got funky and It was musically dense. Minglewood roared as Eaton commanded the lyrics. Tennessee Jed, Cassidy and TLEO were tops! My dog Jed Clampett reminds me of the loveliness of home, a Grateful Dead family home of my early years. My early GD family formed much of who and what I think today; where I had high hopes they would be there, circumstance of their elderly parents kept them away. The death and birth of Cassidy on the heels of summer's close. The sycamore trees have started looking a little browner than green. TLEO was much enjoyed and I took in Loser from the edge and Jeff sweetly delivered the hopes of one looking for a break, one more chance. So then as MNS erupted, these older ladies danced so gleefully. It was why I was called to the edge- to watch their merriment was everything. High stepping, the whole place erupted and it was a groovy get down. The second set continued to sound musically dense to me. All the members were showing what excellent musicians they are. Jeff sang with such heart. Sugaree was dynamic. Jeff wielded the guitar powerfully and the drums... so good. Eaton owned Estimated like he does. Lisa singing on Estimated beautifully delicate and lovely. Barraco's hands moved so fast, as he literally was bouncing off the keys, I watched them blur out. Otherwise, Barraco simply ripped up the 88s and laid them back down again. Skip dropped bass bombs all night. The dancing stage right was everything I want for when I see DSO in Asheville with the dance troupe from Philly. I don't think I stayed still enough to catch a virus, but my Birkenstocks stretched a half inch lol ( didn't get the chance to change shoes preshow) and my feet looked darkened as a week's worth of sun from the dust until I washed them; I gasped with disbelief. I'm still sore haha but it is a sweet soreness and tiredness. It was wonderful to see all my friends I've met and grown to know over these years. 8 now! I love you all dearly. Words fall short to describe this show and fail to express what you all mean to me. love you!! mean it!!

  43. What a great show. A damp, windy, bone chilling day, but the band played superbly in the face of it. Awesome spots front and center shared among many good friends thanks to the kindness of Pat and MC. Seeing the Beast and GS-1 on stage had me excited for an 80s ripper, just what I was hoping for, and a ripper it was. Cotter had the sound dialed in so perfectly, really great to hear him work his magic on a big sound system after so long. I remember lot of this show as an exuberant blur. El Paso stands out in the first set as high energy. Hearing Supplication emerge out of Crazy Fingers was awesome. Ellie was given a heartfelt farewell from the stage by Eaton, a touching moment, followed by Hell in a Bucket, which I really wanted to hear more than anything, and it was just what the Dr. ordered, raunchy and hot. The band took the stage for set 2, tuning up with Stranger in the air. Great, lush keyboard tones from Barraco, he sounded amazing. Stranger got the dance floor worked up into a happy frenzy, which continued with Eyes. A light rain began to fall along with a cross breeze, and the lighting caught it perfectly, creating the effect of millions of swirling speckles. It was beautiful. The fun continued with GDTRFB and Women are Smarter, and into drums. Drums was a highlight, with Koritz doing what sounded like a looping overlay thing with xylophone kind of sounds and Dino playing all of these woody sounding tones. They worked this all up for a while and then, seamlessly, Koritz started pounding on the big drums. I stood transfixed, fascinated with how 3D and huge the sound seemed to be as it came out of the musicians and into the air. As I was standing there thinking about this, a stranger came up and whacked me on the shoulder and said ā€œyou can really feel this in your heartā€. It was one of many synchronicities me and that guy shared over the evening, when several times, as my mind began wandering and started thinking crazy things, we would catch each otherā€™s eye and start laughing. It was pretty funny, and we made friends after the show. Truckin was high energy, had a great section of enthusiastic dancers with Bill K leading the charge! Walked back a bit and found more friends during Black Peter and Lovelight to close out the show. Went back up front for the encores, Baby Blue was like a warm embrace. Walked back to camp to get some dry clothes on and enjoyed the rest of the night. A long review, I guess I remembered more than I thought! As you can tell, it was a really fun night, thanks to everyone ā¤ļø

Goode I might have some of the first set mixed up, couldnā€™t remember the order. It was really good to get out and see the band, they sounded wonderful, they sounded fired up and delivered an amazing performance of every song. No rust on these guys at all considering their last show was in February. Cold Rain and Snow felt so good šŸ„°. Looks Like Rain and Bird Song were highlights. Help>Slip>Franklinā€™s found my tender feet begging for mercy, after battering them the entire first set after not seeing a show since November. Mission in the Rain brought on a downpour of light rain, with the crew scrambling to cover stuff up. Throwing Stones was delivered with heartfelt conviction, Morning Dew was perfect. Satisfaction ended with Eaton talking about everyoneā€™s duty to vote, to which Barraco brilliantly interjected as Pigpen ā€œ...or you ainā€™t gonna get no satisfaction.ā€ Sounded great with the Pigpen vocals on there in Satisfaction. Extended encore set, Nobodyā€™s Fault was cool to sneak into New Speedway and smoothly back out, with the band laying out one more fast one at the end on Johnny B. Goode. This venue was good, it felt like a real show, not watered down in the least bit. The event was run really well, people were mostly good about social distancing, but the venue allowed for ample space for people to be out and dancing, and I left everything I could out there pounded into the gravel, it felt so good to dance againā¤ļøā¤ļø

  47. I beautifully entered a space devoid of thought on 3 of 4 nights. My own story and my own world evaporated as I slowly became part of the song itself. I was William O and I was dire wolf. I was high stepping into town on a day break on the lamb but while the music was playing my ego my self was gone. I just danced. Maybe the best I ever have. Once the music stopped it was hard not to let the ego inflate. Even my lady who usually knows better to say a word was mesmerized. I had mastered sand. I saw patterns in the sand that no one else could see. Only a few degrees short of true full throttle I twisted every which way in the sand. Except for night 1, where I mostly stumbled and slid and did the best I could to look graceful, the other 3 nights I stopped slipping. Night 2 I felt like I was able to move almost in 4 dimensions. The dance definitely become more 3 dimensional than its ever been. Dso was that good. I mean just firing on every song. I could not have achieved neither the mental clarity nor the physical ability without such gorgeous music. I have more to say. So much can be said for the beauty of this trip outside the music but I figured Iā€™d get this up while it was still fresh.

  50. Why is Black Peter special to me.... Listening to BP from Europe (I think) last night I commented to a friend how this is probably the best blues song ever... This song has a way of putting all that life and death is into its proper perspective. I had spent a couple /few years listening to BP multiple times a day because the lyrics and bluesey groove was my life... "all my friends came to see me last night, I was layin in my bed and dying" 48 staples closing me up and coming back to life while a priest is giving me last rights and the friends that came to see me. "Just want to have a little peace to die and a friend or 2 at hand" my mantra for two to three years of nothing but the horror of what I had become... Wanting to die but " one more day I find myself alive tomorrow maybe go beneath the ground" This was a comforting thought... See here how everything lead up to this day and it's just like any other day that's ever been. The pain of knowing the life your living will be the life you die from and having no hope it could ever be different... The people may know but the people don't care that a man can be as poor as me. Take a look at poor Peter he's lying in pain... poor in spirit and extreme physical pain but the physical was minor in comparison to the spiritual pain. Black Peter brings me back to a life I was dying by and forward to the grateful life I live today... See here how everything lead up to this day and it's just like any other day that's ever been... šŸ˜€ā¤ļøšŸ˜€
