  1. First performed 01/20/69 at Pacific High Recording - San Mateo, CA first recorded performance 02/11/69, at the Fillmore East in New York. After 1969, wasn't played again 'til the late 70's; then in '82 again was added to their repertoire.

First played by DSO 08/1/1998 at Martyrs, Chicago IL re-creation of GD Setlist 04/06/85 The Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA.

It is Robert Hunter's Rendition of an old American Folk Tradition, based on the true story of Frank Dupree

Frank Dupree grew up in Abbeville, SC. His story statrs in December 1921 in Atlanta, GA, his "gal" Betty desired a Diamond ring. In the attempt to gain possession of a diamond for her in a jewelry store he shot down the clerk. He fled to Memphis, then to Chicago, where he was cornered, he killed a Cop and wounded several more. He then ran to Nahville,TN wher he was captured in a Post Office trying to get his mail and extradited to Atlanta for trial. He was hung for murder on 09/01/22.

Hunter makes several references to Jelly (IE: Jelly Jelly; Jelly Roll Blues) Jelly was once upon a time slang for Female Genitalia (or Females?). There were a number of old song titled "Jelly Roll Blues"  One of them was by Country Music Artist and one time Governor of Louisiana, Jimmie Davis recorded in 1935

I love Corinna, long and tall
I love my momma, long and tall
Baby can make a wildcat squall
Got the best jelly roll of all"

  2. I have completed upgrading the Forums. There were security improvement and improved Spam Detection. I upgraded the core system, and the flowing Add On Applications and "Plugins" Video System (I seem to be the only one who really likes it),the Community Map and the Birthday Greeter

There are some things I like ... and some that I don't.  For the most part you won't notice  a lot of difference. One big thing (maybe, I don't know) I have remove the "Soft Blue theme. I really liked it but the authors of it weren't very good about upgrading it to work with Invision (Authors of forum software) upgrades. They were excellent about collecting license fees automatically.  I may have been the only one using it anyway

One thing I'm sure you will notice is the new icons on your Avatar when you post. This is one of the changes I'm not so sure about (for one thing not totally sure how it works (until I see it in action)). It is what they call Achievements, it is a ranking system where you get points for, well, about everything you do. This has nothing to do with the current Groups we still retain our standing, In this we all start at zero.

Rules are actionable processes set up in the admin panel.

Here are what members can earn Points for:

    • User follows a forum, blog, gallery, category etc
    • User votes on a poll
    • User is followed
    • New content item is posted
    • Post is marked as best answer

There are also corresponding When/Then Rules for each item listed above.

When this action happens, then this subsequent action happens.

Example: when a member posts 10 times, then this Badge is awarded.

Anyway, I have pretty much everything done that need done offline.  Let me know of any problems you have or questions

    Happy Posting! :lala:

  3. Ya know if you posted videos in the Video System, they would always be viewable in the future instead of getting buried as new threads are posted here, the forum designed for reviews. All your videos are grouped together.

Furthermore, when you add a video there a thread is automatically posted in the "Now Listening" Forum.

Videos added to the VIDEO System are also listed in the sidebar, ensuring they will be noticed.

  4. Thor had been thundering around the Heavens for decades, he was, well, Horny. He decided he would come to earth and find a woman, but, she had to be perfect.

He searched and searched... He was never happy, he grumbled and thundered He was a GOD after all.

Finally, he came upon the most beautiful woman he had ever seen -  BUT - there was one thing, she had a hair lip. He decided she was the one.

They went through the entire Kama Sutra, and even added few chapters.

Finally, he was quelled, as they showered he said to her:

"We've made love for thirty days and thirty nights, I should tell you I'm Thor"

    She replied:

"You're thor I'm tho thor i can hardly pith"

  5. This forum is for REVIEW of shows and this thread was intended to be specifically about the Penn's Peak show.  Since, apparently, there is nothing more to say on that subject it is now closed.

  6. Yes, that comment was rude but not a threat.

I removed the comment and he has been suspended from the forums for 60 days.  He has been a member of dsoforums for 18 years and this is not typical for him, which is why I have not banned him for a first offense.

Kinda glad I’ve never encountered you specifically though.

That kinda doesn't hurt my feelings, though I don't know what my offense was.  "C'est la vie say the old folks".

I just don’t understand the older head “privilege” over kids like myself who started seeing the dead in ‘94.

Don't know who you think is "privileged"  Started seeing the Dead in ' 94 what's that make you - about 30+, I'd quit being a kid a long time by 30.

No one from here is going to other boards "spreading venom" and yet people from other boards come here to spread their venom.  I/we are just tired of it.

    HAVE YOU EVEN BEEN PINNED?

Getting pinned is a BIG deal, and its a huge thing. If its done right, its planned in advance and its a huge surpise to the kid in question.

    Lost me!

She said she was a little older than most of the girls in the crowd.  (Funny, she never said anything about male fans) but you couldn’t hear them playing for all the screaming.

Might be because there weren't many male fans in the early years.  I remember when they released their first songs the girls loved the Beatles ("Oh, he's so cute"), and the boys hated them (" funny lookin' long haired weirdos").

Considering the Amps they used (on the American tour anyway) you' be lucky to hear them at all.
