    Spammers

Sorry it took so long to take care of them. I have been out of commission for awhile (feeling a little better today, thank you). There was a total of ten spammers, three of them had their registrations flagged for review. The other seven posted a total of 237 times. All of them have been banned, their posts deleted and their Email, IP's etc forwarded to Spam DB's.

    Official Touch Of Grey video

Recorded 5/9/87 Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey, CA As I said elsewhere: that evening after the show I was laying down in the back of my '64 Falcon Station Wagon watching the pretty colors dance around the roof liner. I kept hearing music, couldn't quite make out what it was, but it was the same thing over and over. The next day I learned that they had opened the gates and let a bunch of people in while they recorded the "Touch Of Grey" video because they need an audience for it.

    Touch Heads

While we are laying blame the problems started well before the release of "Touch". A lot of good ole Deadheads were fucking up with regularity. It wasn't "touch heads" that ended shows at Kaiser in Oakland and The Greek Theater in Berkeley. It was the onslaught of buses parked in the neighborhood around Kaiser for up to a week before shows. The "Tour Rats" camping in parks. It was the people running amok thru the neighborhood around The Greek. There were many complaints of people pissing and even crapping in residents yards and even screwing. Incidents like this happened other places I mention them because I lived about a half mile from the Kaiser at the time. Kaiser was the best venue for seeing the Dead It is true that there was a significant change in the atmosphere in and around shows after the popularity of the song, but, I don't think the problem was the people that liked the song. The people that came to shows because it was the cool thing to do, the ones that didn't care about the music or the people or anything else. The ones selling crack and heroin in the parking lots. I don't think we should blame the people that like the song, we should be blaming the damn song. TRIVIA: The video for "Touch Of Grey" was recorded at Laguna Seca Raceway, 5/9/87. That evening after the show I was laying down in the back of my '64 Falcon Station Wagon watching the pretty colors dance around the roof liner. I kept hearing music, couldn't quite make out what it was, but it was the same thing over and over. The next day I learned that they had opened the gates and let a bunch of people in while they recorded the "Touch Of Grey" video because they need an audience for it. The Bay Are Music Awards (the Bammies) the award for the Best New Artists for 1987 went to .... drum-roll.... The Grateful Dead

    I saw it coming!

Every time there is an increase in new registrations (800% this month). Soon there are a bunch of ridiculous and often hateful posts. I know that some are legitimate fans and/or folks interested in DSO and the music of the Grateful Dead. Please don't let this current attack give you the wrong idea. Normally this is a kind caring community. I am disgusted at the current state of the union. To the Troublemakers you are warned Ridiculous posts that babble about nothing, posts that are hateful, that have no Social or Political import WILL BE DELETED and the offender will be dealt with in a manner in which I see fit. You are welcome to run back to whatever forum you came from, call me a dictator or tyrant or whatever - it won't be the first time. I have started the Purge!

    I saw it coming!

Poor_Sue, as I have said everyone is welcome to there opinion. Under different, normal circumstances things would be quite different. I am now in a defensive mode, I have to consider what the actual intent of the post is. We have been through this too many times not to know what is going on. Suddenly registrations will increase then posts start usually as a reply to someones thread it may praise or criticism of someone or something then another new member will reply to that their only objective is to stir up trouble. I have seen in the past where a person would submit a post logout and login using a friends account and reply to his own post - I know I can see there IP and where they login from. Until now I had not heard the term "Touch Heads" nor complaints about Phish Phans and don't know that any accusations against anybody were actually started by established members of the forums. I haven't blocked anyone from posting with the exception of the person who registered as "JeffMattsonCatering" who in this thread where I stated my intentions posted a reply saying, basically, what a bunch of idiots we all are and calling band members names. What do you think I would do, rollover and say I was just kidding. I say what I mean and mean what I say. Actually I have blocked one person, Wharf Rat. I have placed restrictions on several people who had made questionable posts, but I have not blocked them, I just want to see what they are posting before they stir up shit. As long as they are not hateful they will be posted if they can't act like civilized adults they will go away! I just have no intention of these forums becoming hateful like others that have been shut down because of the muck posted by a few troublemakers. I'm afraid I don't much enjoy the snow, don't have chains for my wheelchair.

    Penns Peak

This forum is for REVIEW of shows and this thread was intended to be specifically about the Penn's Peak show. Since, apparently, there is nothing more to say on that subject it is now closed.

    Penns Peak

Yes, that comment was rude but not a threat. I removed the comment and he has been suspended from the forums for 60 days. He has been a member of dsoforums for 18 years and this is not typical for him, which is why I have not banned him for a first offense. That kinda doesn't hurt my feelings, though I don't know what my offense was. "C'est la vie say the old folks".

Don't know who you think is "privileged" Started seeing the Dead in ' 94 what's that make you - about 30+, I'd quit being a kid a long time by 30. No one from here is going to other boards "spreading venom" and yet people from other boards come here to spread their venom. I/we are just tired of it.

    Locomotive Breath 1971

The Led Zeppelin video made me think of Jethro Tull, can't think Tull without thinking of Aqualung which brought up a memory of Locomotive Breath. Here's the tale: Sometime in 1971 I was "between jobs". I had no money, but I had a car (1969 El Camino), my friend, Gerry, Had no car, but he had a little money. In those years Ger and I were inseparable (most of the time), anyway Ger wanted to go to LA I said sure you pay for gas and I go to Disneyland. Off we go, I had the clothes on my back, a toothbrush and a garbage bag full of moldy Kansas "Dirt Weed" stashed in the tailgate. (we sold most of that in Prescott, AZ, felt kinda guilty about it - but they liked it). I don't remember the exact route after Prescott/Phoenix. I-10 may have not been completed yet, we were on a two lane highway through the desert we both had to pee, there were these HUGE cacti so we pulled over. We had to cross a barbed wire fence to get to them, on the way to the cactus Ger held up one wire and stepped on the other so I could go through. "Wouldn't it be funny if my foot slipped" he joked. On the way back to the car this was on my mind. "I think I'll climb over" I said. As I threw my leg over the top wire it slipped and I straddled the metal fence post. I went on across and started towards the car. Gerry's freaking "Are you alright, are you alright" he kept asking and I kept saying "I'm fine" then my Knees buckled. I had a gash in my leg and other "parts" were damaged and bleeding. Gerry started driving - Like a fuckin' maniac, passing cars with cars coming towards us, flashing the headlights. Soon a AZ Highway Patrol came toward us and Ger flagged him down. After explaining the circumstances he had me set with my feet on the ground while he applied bandages. I'm still pissed that Gerry didn't take a picture of the Trooper between my knees. Luckily it looked and felt worse than it was. Back on the road, with bandaged balls and no crotch in my pants. (we're getting closer to Locomotive Breath). A few miles down the road we pick up a girl hitchhiking to San Francisco. Gerry was still driving, admittedly I was not a good passenger, I loved that El Camino. So, anyway were getting close to downtown LA Jethro Tull is full blast on the 8-Track Gerry's playing air guitar to Locomotive Breath I'm bitching about his driving, can't put my knees together because it hurt too much, I can only imagine what's going thru her mind, so she wants out T the I-10/I-5 interchange rush hour in LA! We offered to take her further (I think Ger even offered to take her to SF) but she was determined. I didn't think we'd ever get back on the freeway, but she probably had better luck getting a ride. So that's what Locomotive Breath reminds me of. Incidentally, I never did get to Disneyland. Ger met a girl and the money went up their noses - when his money was gone so was she! I don't think Gerry and I spoke all the way home to Kansas. Someday I'll tell you about all the shit that happened in LA on that trip, it's a rather sordid tale!
