    Lights on the current tour

I'm so glad someone started this thread. I completely agree. I've been seeing DSO since 2002, love the band, and agree the music has never been better. This tour I was at Northampton, New Haven, and Albany. I independently noticed the problem with the lighting as did many others I've spoken to. The handful of people posting on this thread is a small fraction of the people who are bothered by the lights. I have two problems with the lighting. First, as people have mentioned, is the bright lights in your face. During the best moments of a song when your eyes are closed, and your mind takes you away to a great place, and it's nothing but pure enjoyment of the moment, suddenly it's BAM!!!! bright lights in the face you come back to reality and that does ruin the moment. Second problem is I think the stage is over lit. Whether 1st set or 2nd, most of us have gotten used to a dimly lit stage often with blue lights during the big slow songs & ballads like Row Jimmy, LLR, Birdsong, IWTYH, and especially Black Peter. But several times this tour I thought to myself during those songs "dim the lights, turn the lights down". It is counter to what I've been used to and enjoyed most and what best sets the mood of the song. That also takes away from the moment for me. And as great as the DSO audience is, there are people who inevitably talk at the wrong time. (Morning Dew is not a time to catch up on gossip with high school friends.) Dimming the lights also helps those people get the message that this is a serious moment. I almost started a thread like this and almost spoke to Cotter but didn't want to come across as a complainer. But the band should know how the lighting changes are being received. If this is what the band members want, that's their prerogative. If they like a bright stage and like seeing the audience, it's their band and their choice. If not, it's probably valuable information to them. DSO is the best band in the land!

How was the Foolish Heart because the one from Hampton Beach this summer was the best I've ever heard by any band?

    Portland 11/15/18

I looked last night at classic Albany shows. I think it's one of the 90 shows and 3/24 seems like the one to me. 3/25 & 26 were played more recently and 1 in NY. And not as classic. Since we know New Haven is 5/5/77, it's easy to check overlaps, and that would leave only Jed 2 nights in a row. But I was going to see what Higher Ground and Portland are first before really trying to predict. But if it's 3/24 that has Playing UJB Terrapin, so it'd be a lot of terrapins just having been played in NoHo, if they do it in Portland too.. We'll see. I love this!

I grew up in and live in Connecticut. I'm almost immune to Duke hatred. Acududeman, do you read the DBR? (Duke Basketball Report) it's really good.

PoetryGirl, I don't Zion's 3 point shot is that bad. Having gone to Duke, I'm admittedly biased. This may be our strongest team ever.

    2019 Westy Coasty Winter Tour

I live in the Northeast, never seen a west coast show. Only east coast and midwest. I heard Warfield is a do not miss venue. What others are best places if I try to hit a weekor at least a few days of this tour.

New DSO Downloads now avail via Nugs.net

Thanks Rob. I try hard not to exaggerate how good something is but.... buy/download/listen to Foolish Heart from Hampton Beach 7/27/18. I honestly think it was the best Foolish Heart ever played in the entire history of the planet!!! Its that good!!! (And I've just listened to pretty much all of the highly rated GD versions for comparison.) The whole band is so tight and pushed it to the full potential of that song. Listening to it all I am left thinking is "yes, that is how good music can be and how great good music can make you feel". The sound live was one of those rare moments where everything is just exactly perfect. From the band, Jeff's tone, Cotter, everything... Music filled the air and the music played the band. Foolish Heart. 7/27/18. 2nd jam.

Thanks, forgot that one. Saw Mattson & Friends do Moonlight Mile at the Acoustic and at the Ardmore in March. First times i'd seen it and both great.

Would have loved to have seen SOTM. Personally haven't seen that in a while. Standing on the Moon, Mountains of the Moon, Midnight Moonlight - they missed Picasso Moon.
