I saw Sierra Ferrell there for NYE a couple years ago, sold out, and there was plenty of space even with the floor and mezzanine levels packed and no one bowling once the show started. But I hope its perfect for the band and for your dancing needs. The last time DSO played Madison theater in Covington, KY, it was so packed and oversold I literally couldn't move or dance and I thought it was a deathtrap, so that is kinda the standard measure i use

The Grateful Dead played the Mississippi River Festival at the Southern Ill. University in Edwardsville, IL, and its fantastic vintage 1980. It's raining hard at times (You can hear it bounce off the microphones during Ship of Fools), but it doesn't dampen the fire hot energy of the band and audience, and every song you expect to ignite and smolder does indeed, but the highlight for me is definitely the red hot CC Rider>China Cat>Rider. I toured full time 1997-2001. Those were my high volume show years. On Phil fall tour 1999, he busted out Willin', Fat Man in the Bathtub, and Don't Bogart that joint several times, as Paul Barrere and Billy Payne were part of the band. I don't think he played them after that. Those were magical times

I’ve wondered before what a non or less than casual fan might think of some of my favorite songs and jams (believe it or not, Pride, Rueben, drums/space) and it looks like now I know. but if I walk through a balcony and see a group of people with their eyes closed, I will no longer assume they are having a blast but seriously, what were you expecting? It’s not a Taylor swift concert

Agreed. I totally want the band to have revenue and the event to succeed, and Jubilee is the only festival I’ve been too where most years the VIP has more people than the general admission, so it makes sense they raised those prices. ill be there in May, looking foreword to some good music and that long trek pack in my camping gear in GA

It may sound crazy, but for a moment I was on the fence for the first time in Jubilee history. I was thinking about the prices of VIP and then I thought about getting a cabin in the Adirondacks that same weekend for fishing and hiking for about the same cost. I was thinking how I’ve seen too many ‘76-78 shows from DSO and how it would probably rain. but then I realized I don’t get to see DSO enough. That when they play really well it never matters what the set list is, and they always play very well at at the Jubilee. I realized there are folks I only see at the Jubilee, and by May, my professional life is so busy I need to get away badly and listen to music. so I bought Gen admission tickets for the first time in years, and I’m excited to be returning. I’ve not missed a Jubilee yet, and I won’t this year either. See you in May. Hoping for weird set lists 🤠

One of my most exciting moments in seeing DSO was seeing the first "Who Was John" in Covington in 2013. I also really enjoyed seeing electric "Big Iron" in 2012

Im at a place where I’m less enthused by 1976-1978 setlists, so when I arrived & saw the set up and the Travis bean, I was a little bit let down (while also absolutely loving that Travis Bean tone, FYI). I decided to make the most of it, trying to place the show. When I head the Bertha>good lovin, I knew it wasn’t 76. When the three slow songs happened in the first set, I realized it had to be 1978. Why they ever needed three slow songs back to back, I don’t know, but DSO played them like consummate professionals. Eaton won me over with his slide guitar all night, and Barraco was playing really well. At set break I figured out it was 9/16/78, and wondered how the second set would actually go. it went fantastic! The energy grew and bounced between a great crowd and the band and it is in those moments I felt some lift off. it’s a reminder to me: no matter my headspace or what the set list looks like: when the band is playing well, it doesn’t matter what the set list looks like. I had a blast in Asheville! Thanks DSO!

Listen to the stagger Lee on the original show 2/7/1979, then compare it to the stagger lee a week before. I’ve never heard Garcia so slow before or after.
