  1. The show last night in Cinci reminded me why I love the jubilee. Having a few days off to catch your breath and socialize and listen to music but not have to worry about beating traffic and expensive booze....is really a nice treat. See you soon
  2. I realized tonight I'm a little rusty in the DSO show department, I'm really out of practice. So I'm glad I attended! The sound was really good at key locations. The crowd was pretty good, which made me happy. I wasn't able to leave Lex until around 6, so I arrived just prior to Mississippi Half Step. It was polished with all the right notes and high points. I didn't realize it was halfway through the set until they played Johnny B. Good. Chimes of Freedom was close to perfection. The slipknot was where I finally was finding my groove and it was a great jam. Weirdly enough, the Feel Like a Stranger "may" have been the best ensemble playing of that song I've seen the band do. It was really strong. I really enjoyed the Sunshine through the rest of the set. The Sunshine gives me the grooves that I need, and the gentle jam as Sunshine dissipated into drums was what I come to the DSO shows for. The beam & drums were awesome, the jams & space were my bread & butter, and the Dear Mr. Fantasy rocking. They band with much precision eased a transition into Days Between instead of Hey Jude, and that may be the first one I've seen DSO do, so I felt lucky-it was well performed. The Satisfaction was a great rock song and the Black Muddy River sublime. I'm always curiously fearful of new venues, but this one was pretty decent, with one exception: the alcohol pricing. Yikes! Looking forward to the Jubilee!
  3. Here's another map I did for someone a few years ago, to supplement rude's post: The following is a rough and quick sketch on the camping areas of the festival. A. General Admission camping within Concert Bowl B. General Admission Camping within Concert Bowl C. Vendor Row by pine tree grove D. Main Parking lot outside of concert venue (you can camp at your car if you want, its a grassy field). E. ADA camping for disabled folks, restricted camping. F. Family Camping, restricted. G. VIP RV Camping H. GA RV Camping I. VIP Camping
  4. Yes, it’s Friday 5/27- Monday 5/30
  5. I agree about the post DSO bands. One of my favorite post DSO late night bands was when Mickey Hart Band played after DSO in 2013. That was rad! they are also a band that sounds better late at night and not during the daytime

  7. If you are over 40 and have time for multiple friends, let alone actually have 10 friends, god bless you, you probably do have time to go on tour, and I’m your biggest fan so go ahead and post the setlists
  8. Yeah, that sucks. I should have known he was almost 70. I actually first saw him play with “Melvin Seals and the JGB” in July 1999, at Legend Valley. There was a High Times music festival. He had Judah gold on guitar for his touring band at that point, and they had released a live record. https://www.amazon.com/Welcome-Our-World-Members-Only/dp/B00000676L Merl Saunders was also at that show. Keep healthy, Melvin
  9. I feel guilty already for all those distasteful jokes I made about him working solely for ham sandwiches.
  10. Good to see you again! I think the size of the venue helps build the energy up for the audience and band which causes the music to spark extra good How old is Melvin these days?
  11. Yes, I know Ratdog opened, but some shows Junior Brown was the preopener
  12. I did the whole tour. Fantastic show. Viola Lee was the theme for the tour it seemed. Amazing music and since I was 19, amazing summer. Also, did Junior Brown open this show? I know he did in Kansas. I went and listened to this one. It was fantastic! Thanks for the rec.
  13. That's exactly where I was camped out. Thank you for confirmation. Megaphone dude, despite disrupting my sleep, was hilarious. The section is lively every year.
  14. I remember an late night or all night party on year 1, at least night 1. One Dude was on megaphone all night by my tent. He was pretty hilarious. At one point he told everyone the “the cops are here and they are partying more than you people”
  15. I loved Jubilee 1 also, don't get me wrong. In fact, the first night was great all around. Small intimate crowd, warm & sunny, great music. Some of the last shows of Cornmeal, Keller was good. The DSO show was a sweet early 80's show. But the rain that started off and on the second day was alot. I managed to get my tent covered by a huge tarp that covered a whole bunch of us, so it worked out. The second year was great for me because I accidentally had packed thermals and didn't realize it until we got there, and so I was pretty covered. Woo Hoo! Right about now, I could use a warm sunny early summer day with a cold beer and an ez up and chair with music in the background
  16. That’s fair Naw, it was the Labor Day Jubilee in 2012. Washed the large stage out on second day. Mickey Hart played in VIP tent
  17. I see non jam bands all the time. DSO & Billy Strings are really the only national jam bands I see. I'm a grateful dead fan, and actually I can't stand the jam band genre. Saw Dinosaur Jr killing it at the Brooklyn Bowl in November. Getting ready to see Mannequin Pussy soon
  18. Last years weather was probably my least favorite in all my years attending, minus the hurricane the first year that shut down music. I mean, I can take the cold of 2013 (I happened to pack long johns by a random mistake, throwing them in my bag, and OMG it was like I won the lottery). But it was a "dry" cold for the most part, and if you danced hard or got next to a fire or warm grill, you could maintain. But last years weather sucked. The cold rain and wind was bone chilling, especially because it had been fairly warm in the weeks prior. I loved the shows, despite the pods, but lets all request some perfect weather for 2022. Lows in the 50's and highs in the upper 70s. Its too early in the season, but I'm jonesing for some DSO and some time away already
  19. That guy is long known for his own hot takes being less than hot
  20. Viola Lee Blues is a favorite, and this one is a spiraling beast
  21. Three contenders. For all different reasons.
