  1. I just heard from my niece/ Goddaughter that Dead and Company is playing a benefit concert May 8th at Barton Hall, Cornell university (she works there) $300 minimum to get in, $1,500 to stand in the pit. If that’s not common knowledge, it is now!
  2. I took my son to see DSO at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, De. When he was twelve. He’s a natural born drummer and had been taking lessons. He fit right in. We caught another show together ten years later at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach. He went up front while I stayed back and danced for that one. When we met up after the show he was covered in sweat. Don’t you see?, he had a real good time.
  3. That’s been my approach since day one. I sit still and let them come to me, DSO, Grateful Dead, Furthur, etc. I catch them when they come around. I’ve managed to stay in honeymoon mode for 42 years. My last Dark Star show had about four or five tunes that I’ve never seen live before. Kinda funny, my first six Grateful Dead shows, I saw Good Lovin’ five times. It took another twenty years to catch it again. At least that’s how I remember it. Who are the Grateful Dead and why do they keep following me?
  4. I caught the Dirty Grass Players at the Garfield Theatre in Chestertown a few years back during Downrigging weekend. Bluegrass band, their set had a few Dead tunes sprinkled throughout. A real good time.
  5. I remember the vibe on the forums from that show also. Race is on, Run for the Roses to open a show tied to the Preakness. Pretty cool.
  6. I started in 1980. I was lectured to about everything Grateful Dead by my roommate at college who was connected to some serious tourheads. The band was excited about a fresh start with Brent. The word on the street was that they had big plans and were excited. BTW, word of mouth was how the news was spread back then. It really was a subculture. I feel that they were going to take the late seventies live show success to the next level. I say that in retrospect. I also think that this era is where Jerry had evolved his playing and singing furthest before the drugs started showing up in the quality of his performances. Yea, the early eighties are the good old days for me. If I am not mistaken, I think 11/30/80 helps me make my point.
  7. Two guys are walking down the street. They get to the corner and there’s a dog licking his balls. One guy says to the other, “man, I wish I could do that.” The other guy says, “if you go over and pet him real nice, maybe he’ll let you.”
  8. I can name that show in …… three songs.
  9. Maybe if he had time to to evolve it. I was thinking maybe if he got a hold of those lyrics when he was a younger man but it took a lifetime to come up with those lyrics.
  10. Yet, at the same time, Jerry is cranking out some of his best work with Grisman in Grateful Dawg and his Jerry Band performances are some of my sweetest memories of him. …. and I say, wonderful…..
  11. That ball was uncatchable.
  12. Makes you wonder about the band not knowing what song they’re playing next yet we can have conversations like this. The predictability to their unpredictableness. Even random’s last name is order. I love it. Set list conversations are my favorite.
  13. You’re both right. 75-77,83-85, 89-95. I found a site called grateful seconds. Com that lists the times played for help on the way. Kinda covers help/slip/Frank. Looks like I might get a passing grade without even owning the textbook. Thumbs up !
  14. Last time I remember seeing Makes no Difference on a set list, it was a West coast show a few years back, acoustic, I believe. Love that tune.
  15. Bertha is my favorite rockin’ Jerry tune. Quintessential Grateful Dead. Only his ballads rank higher with me.
  16. I have this theory about football teams working their way through the playoffs. The Patriots had it down, where the goal isn’t just to get to the Super Bowl but to win the super Bowl. Some teams blow their wad before getting there. The Eagles always talk about getting to the Super Bowl and winning it. It dawned on me today that the Bengals/chiefs game was so hyped up, full of trash talking back and forth, etc. that the Chiefs could be spent and might not have as much left in the tank as the Eagles who haven’t even been challenged yet in the playoffs. My take.
  17. 49ers player who tried to throw the Eagles player six feet under was less than cool. Gonna be a good Super Bowl but I think Philly is a little better and healthier. Philly hasn’t really been challenged yet in the playoffs, I think.
  18. I’m digging Women are Smarter show opener. Dooga Dooga Doop, Bop Bop!
  19. I’m guessing Let it Grow stuffed with Drums had to be delicious.
  20. If Philly can rattle Purdy’s cage, it’ll be more than four, I think. Honestly, all four teams have a pretty good chance. Don’t forget what kC’s backup QB did while Mahomes was getting his ankle checked out last week. 98 yard touchdown drive that ate up some clock. I always enjoy this week’s games more than the Super Bowl.
  21. Agree. After that, I think we’re looking at a pretty good Super Bowl. Two young QB’s looking to show up the doubters. New era? No Brady so it won’t be like watching reruns on TV.
  22. If the kicker could produce, the score and the dynamic would have been different by halftime and yes, Pollard would be running down the field in the second half. The uncertainty of the kicker effected the coach’s decisions.
  23. Sorry it was a disaster for you, Rude. As a Raiders fan, I can relate, probably two years out before we can be taken seriously, at best. On a positive note, I thought Dallas had the niners Rookie QB a bit rattled, at first, at least.
