Say hello to Columbia for me.....my home town. Grateful to have attended the one and only GD show there on 10/31/85.

Sure will ! The armpit could've been the jewel of the state had the Union not burned it to the ground after the mayor turned the city over willingly. That fair city would have been Charleston's little sister. The good spirit still abides though. Much love for Papa Jazz, Five Points.

Did you ever see the Other People ? Russ, Randy, Tommy, Greg and Cedo. Super fun times seeing them play some GD music ! And the all time favorite "Possum Meat"

Uncle Mingo , Jump Little Children and Jupiter Coyote (go Terriers!!) made for great times too! Hula hooping skills highlighted in the infancy of what it has become to the scene but equally celebrated !

I moved away from Columbia in '79, but I go back regularly since my mom still lives there.

Papa Jazz rocks! Not familiar with the other references you mention. If you've ever heard of the Carol Saunders Gallery (in the Vista next to Motor Supply), that's my mom!

I have wondered what Cola would be like today of it hadn't been burned to the ground......Charleston is lucky that it was spared!

Its been 400 plus shows and 27 states later since my first dso show on 4/13/2001 @ Irving Plaza in NYC.....much of my enjoyment from seeing DSO comes from the travel experience, the road trip!  The band has to make money to tour and they go where it makes sense....and to be honest, they take quite a few for the team ( you and I ) by playing in places they do not do well ( the GD did the same )  I , for one,  cannot wait to go to Florida each winter to visit my very dear friends whom live in Orlando. They embody the spirit I have to come to love when touring with DSO > FAMILY. Admittedly,  we have complained about the lack of shows in Florida in the past. Mainly because our friends in Orlando run a deli which must be manned every day of the year. We want them to have more shows and it gives us a reason to hang with them for the week. Having said that, many things go into putting tours together that few of us understand. THIS is why many of us get on airplanes and why we have become such good friends...Sacrifice = friends.....the lack of shows in one area gives us a reason to plan a vacation to go see music. Believe me, the band is very grateful for all of our DEADication and they take many for the team in order to accommodate us...to be honest they go out of their way more than the GD ever did...and that's a fact...check the GD's touring history.......Be happy for what you get and be grateful..

Hey rude I might be heading out for the Tahoe show and I will Def be hitting the mountain the next day.

Cool! I'm def booking a room in a casino. I'll be tagging along so not sure if I can hit the slopes but I could just find a shuttle or a bus to Vegas. I haven't skied in a while and only summit county CO so Tahoe would be a blast. And after a week of tour My legs will be slope ready.

The crazy property values in the San Fran area were something I was familiar with from articles, but looking for places to stay in Berkeley, they are punching me in the face.  On AirBnb everything is 200+ a night.  ewwww.  I did find a private room in someones home for around 100 a night.  WTF.  I sort of expected similar prices to the other Airbnb I have booked.  And everyone in Berkeley adds a 200.00 cleaning fee which makes it even worse.  Looked a cool place that turned out to be 2200 for 3 nights.  WTF.  And the Asheville house could swallow it up and still have room for people.  I did find a 9x10 cottage behind someones house with an outhouse bathroom and shower for 100 a night.  Another cute place, also with an outdoor bathroom unheated(February show) was around 150 a night.  Starting to get disheartened.  I did find a shared room in Oakland for 30 a night.  The windows had bars on them and pretty sure they call it Oak-town in that area and I would need to make sure I was wearing the proper colors to avoid being shot.

So the funniest listing I found was a 40 year old motorhome parked on the street for 130 a night.  Not kidding.  130 a night for a 1980 motorhome to sleep in.  If you have a shed in your backyard, you could make a few grand a month with AirBnb in this area.

Hotels suck everywhere.  One of the industries that humanity gets fucked by pretty extremely and extraordinarily.

I was considering the PNW, however as much as I want to go there, I do not want to do so when it's cold and rainy.  Rather wait til it's warm and rainy!  But after checking my airline miles, I'm almost locked in for flying into Sacremento, hitting Lake Tahoe, driving through the sequoia forest/Sierra National Park? and across Death Valley back to Vegas, then Ventura, Beverly Hills, and San Diego and flying home from San Diego on the 26th.  That is looking like the best run for me.

I may be very much down for pitching in on any group accommodations if that's in the cards.  I'm going to check if I have any resources in that area.  I have a friend who lives in LA but haven't seen her in over a decade...

Wow those airbnb Berkeley prices are insane.  Yes, the Bay Area is an expensive place to live, but still.   You could find a respectable, although of course not luxurious, hotel for under $200 a night.  As for BART, it is right around the corner from the UC Theatre.

"Well St. Louis doesn't support the Band"

That pretty much answers any remaining questions I had. I can only speak for myself. I did (support the band). At least you addressed it directly.

Best of luck.

You are totally fucking off base man. Learn to be grateful for what you get. Many people have to travel many miles just to catch their one or two shows. You can't take shit personal that the band can't play next door for you every tour. This is business. This isn't about you.

Thanks for the lecture. But If I  need any Counsel it's not from you brother, not to mention you have no idea what you are talking about.   A couple points here. First,  I have seen DSO in among other places Dallas, Baltimore, Chicago, Springfield, Des Moines, Austin  so I have traveled many miles to see DSO. Second I am entitled to to voice an  opinion as a fan of the band for many years  and who has bought their merchandise, music and tickets to their  shows as to what I think about certain aspects of their touring schedule.  If I think that it kind of sucks that DSO plays 15 shows in a calendar year in New York State and only 1 show over and 18 month period in a City where two of the band players live (one now)  and one of  their crew, I'm allowed to say it. Period.  I understand it's a business but being an anti capitalist I am not emotionally moved by that argument. From a pragmatic stand point I get it of course.  Finally I think it's great that a member of the Band weighed in. My only point to that is that making a statement like "Well St. Louis does not support the Band"  is a bit inflammatory and could have been stated better to emphasize the box office aspect of the Band's point or angle. Personally me and my group of 10 or so friends have not missed a show since our first one at Mississippi NIght in 1997 I believe with MIke Maratt in the Bobby roll, nor will we going forward. If that is not support I'm not sure what is. If its Lemming behavior your looking for however you won't find it here.

Hey. I will delete my post. You implied you wouldn't be going to shows anymore. My words were too harsh. I will take them down. Didn't really view it as a lecture just someone who found your opinion devoid of gratitude and full of selfishness. Saying I did. Implies past tense as if you were removing your support from the band. Maybe rob could have chosen better words I most certainly feel you could have chosen better words especially if you plan to keep supporting the band. I chose to express my opinion but I can see to you my opinion wasn't valid. But i really should not have said anything at all.

I hope someday Dso does well enough in St. Louis that we can open up the balcony and play 2 night stops there.

No need to delete your post at all.  Freedom of  expression is where its at man.  I get  that you thought I was banging the band a bit and  you  were coming to their defense.  That's an admirable trait to have.

And my words may have implied I was withdrawing support. They certainly could have been construed that way.  But I did not.  I was just having a moment and coming to the defense of musical fans and musicians from a place I love. St. Louis Missouri. That's the whole Enchilada.

Already deleted. I'm not gonna repost them. I just saw you as withdrawing your support over something petty to me.

I do want everyone to local hometown shows. I wish Gary and Connie could get a fargo gig but it's unlikely.

I've had personal relationships with most members of the band and crew in dso. At times, I've felt like an action was personal and offensive towards me. I had to learn to not take things personally.
