You tube haters

So after reading this board's jrad thread i thought i would have a look for myself, so i picked a random 2017brooklyn bowl ny forget night but anyway after a what had to be a 17 min bertha and almost 18 min jackstraw i knew either one of them don't need to be that long. For instance bertha after two verses brought a 10 min or more jam which is much too long here and like i think rude pointed out very unnecessary jams that go nowhere, so let's get to the rea 23rd reason for this post, the comments!  Now i usually just like to read them most the time while rarely commenting or replying but at this particular show some guys were falsely stating their opinions of dso like they only recreate dead shows song for song notes for notes and had to add no originality. So i was forced to go against my better judgement and replied about how the only similarity is the setlist on paper but the transitions and all improvisements are unique and 100%theirs and i got at least 15 haters like i must never seen jerry, um since 86 or I'm not listening. So my point you tubers are high level haters mostly all out of the three had dso last if at all

Jrads Boards aren’t the best. Not a fan of the way their SBD guy runs things. It’s a good live product though. It’s also a very intentional psychsdelic product. The dead was psychedelic to an extent but JRAD is a more forced leave the planet type psychedelic playing if that’s your thing.  We were hamstrung by really poor accoustics night 1. By night 4 I regretted selling my St. Louis tix.  It takes a minute to adjust to them. I tried to Listen to the live shows at home but the quality of sound isn’t there. Not a home fan of JRAD at all. Dso boards blow their quality away. Dso boards are so perfect and get more perfecter(yes it’s a word) if the venue accoustics abide. Jrads board guy changes volume level like he’s a kid with a new toy but it creates a very Trippy effect.....live.  If they come to your town, not seeing them would be a serious blunder. I hope to catch them 3-5 shows a year as they barely play.

Whew.  For a second there I was preparing for a rant against vacuum tubes.  Thankfully not the case.  I can understand the reluctance against tubes for the power amp, what with the lack of tight bass control and potential non-linearity at high levels, but in that case just using them in the pre-amp is the way to go.  :D

I’d love a vacuum tube amp but everyone has to make choices and mine is travel. Yeah I could skip 1 tour and completely redo my system but I’m content with sound I hear and not content missing shows and experiences I could get.  For your system John, id have to skip 5 years of tour.  I won’t be able to travel like this forever so I’ll enjoy it while I can. It’s to the point of being irresponsible on my travel spending but it’s like any other addiction. We all have them. May be food, liquor, drugs, shopping, exercise, porn or stereo systems. I’d love the contentment my indoor cat has, but alas I am human.

JRAD is a fun concert and those guys are incredible musicians, but they don't have that je ne sais quoi which DSO has managed to cultivate.

They've attracted quite a following of people who really think they're pushing the music further than anybody else, but to my ear their jamming is kind of predictable and lacking something.

That's just nitpicking though. Every JRAD show I've seen has been a barn-burner.

There's no doubt jrad are very good even enough so that they give anyone who enjoys gd music another outlet which in the big picture imo is a good thing. I only became offended at the notion that dso's contribution to the scene is only in a recreation of a gd show and they have nothing too offer, i reminded the poster that every transition and anything beyond the songs structure are completely theirs and i felt the need to defend what i love and i love this band......

I remember trying to turn on a friend to the dead by playing a tape and after a couple songs i kinda stated that it's very different listening at home vs being there and i probably wouldn't have gotten it if not for my first experience being live
