Wolf coming to Lowell

Just looked at the DSO news page, and they announced that Jerry's custom Doug Irwin guitar, Wolf, will be played once again by Jeff Mattson at the tour opener in Lowell, MA. They said that they are creating an original setlist to "return Wolf to its era". Getting excited 😎😎

Gotta be such an honor and a privilege for Jeff. I’m curious and I don’t know, is this a unique honor and privilege? Is the owner lending wolf out to anyone else, or is he loyal to Dark Star Orchestra?

It’s been passed around quite a bit I believe.

I know Melvin Seals's guitarist has played it on stage, but I am not sure who else has. It really is excellent how generous the guitar's current owner is with allowing it to be played. Two consecutive trips to MA for Jeff to be playing it, what a treat for all. Getting more excited 😎😎

That is definitely generous on the owner's part, and it's the ideal way to honor the instrument in my opinion......let the best living players of GD music bring it to life from time to time.

Bravo!!

it will continue to make the rounds within the family. the owner a tech jillionaire bought it with the idea of playing it himself and loaning to all the dead family. pretty awesome. Jeff made a litte speech about it tonight, how honored he felt...difficult to hear as pa was funny with mics. But he was one happy dude tonight!

Facebook Dead Heads???   Don't get me started.

Please... all that matters is Jerry. Jerry had a guitar in his hand all the time. Jerry & Doug Irwin would want Wolfie to be played. It was created to make beautiful music. It is not a museum piece, never to be touched, even though it has a high monetary value.

And notice for you junior Dead Heads on Facebook...  Mayer and Hamilton cannot hold Jeff's jock.  Feelin what I am cookin???

I like JRAD but....

Dull & Company...please.  Money grab at its finest. Bob Weir thinks he can sit back and noodle on Jerry songs like it's the old days. Except YOU are singing the Jerry songs so the 3 steps you need to take from noodle position to mic and also now lock your eyes to the iPad to your left since you don't know the words to the songs conspire to make you a MINIMUM half beat slow on EVERY JERRY song you sing = Dull & Company.

Tom Hamilton once told me in response to I follow the Dark Star Orchestrea something to the effect.

The Grateful Dead touched my life but I don’t want to make a living playing someone else’s music. I want to make my own music. This was stated with an extremely condescending tone. Maybe I’m wrong but seems Tom’s cash cow now is JRAD.  Before that it was a jamtronica outfit Brothers Past.  So much for American Babies.

Just blown away someone on FB would even try to compare Tom Hamilton to Jeff Mattson.

Let the owner decide who plays his guitar if Tom makes that list so be it good on him but please don’t ever imply he is more worthy than Jeff. That insinuation leaves me confused on whether to laugh or cry.

Thank God I gave up the Facebook.

Saw Warren play Wolf at Red Rocks with a symphony.

I think we can all here agree that the person who deserves it the least is Mayer. He only just discovered the dead. Jeff saw Jerry play 100s of Times. Mayer is a pop Star who now plays with Bobby. Monet has more claim to play wolf than John. I would like to see the pic of her holding it wearing lingerie. Hey. She only posts pics of herself in lingerie so I’m not the perv in this instance.

Honestly i feel Bobby plays because that’s basically all he’s ever known & done. Sure, is a $ grab, tho, again, seems he HAS to keep playin’...NO other muscian has played onstage more, or traveled more miles, than Bob Weir. I’m NOT a Bobby fan, by any means...just adding my 2 cents...

MC, you have restored my faith in humanity. I see through the same lens.

This lack of guitar talent discernment highlights similar issues in basic behavior attending concerts

Excuse my rant. But if we want to change the world we need to teach and police ourselves tribally.

Concert Etiquette 101

There is much to be learned about how to enjoy a concert by the uninitiated.

First if you want to chat up your friend, go to the bar or GET A HOTEL ROOM !!!

The beginning intro to If I had the World to Give is not your cue to talk.  Petition to add STFU to back of all hats

If you want to be up front, then have some discipline and get there early. Plan for success.

Excessive alcohol will dull your senses, especially your ears, you will wobble and bump into people and inevitably spill on them.

God forbid you are mixing with opiates. I once had to arm bar two separate guys who were about to fall face first at a show.

You need to manage yourself better because you put others in harms way..

If you are there with your girlfriend, the one with the big pocketbook on her left shoulder. (Capitol Theater) Don't have her stand on your left side so I GET HIT by the pocketbook all night. I kindly let her know she needs to stand on the other side of you or I get to bump back.  You need to get hit by the pocketbook all night,  then you will have guts to tell her to leave it in the car next time

Texting your friends during a song = Texting while driving. It can wait. You are at the show. They are not. Leave phone in car.

All you junior cameramen out there, be advised that your grainy shaky phone video is unwatchable. My shoulder is not a tripod & If you invade my personal space like a virtual tripod I will spike you away like a rag doll volleyball because a hippie chief has to practice frontier justice.

Finally just because you recognize someone you saw 4 years ago at a show in the front row does not give you the license to turn my personal space into a sardine can. Look, I can spin at will & forever. How about a 6'4" hippie made out of granite feeling no pain, spinning like a boss top. Give me my personal space or I will carve it out myself.

The BEST SHOWS are sweaty psychedelic dance parties where I zig & you zag all night long. Personal space for all!!!

I was talking with my cousin before the DSO show this summer in Dewey about that very subject. He said I can answer that because I asked Bobby after a Ratdog show right here, outside of the Bottle and Cork. He said, ‘I asked Bobby if he thought he would even stop touring’. Bobby said, ‘ it’s all I have done since I was fifteen. I ‘m more comfortable on the road than I am at home.’
