Great drums segment after a somewhat chaotic Playin' jam where Barraco's keys were silent. At one point he just threw his arms up in frustration and started up with some vibraslap percussion, since his mic was still live. The keys were restored after a good five minutes, then Eaton left the jam early, I imagine to see what the heck was going on with the equipment. Skip, Jeff and the drummers kept things lively, though. it's great to see high caliber musicians who can improvise in both senses of the word when it really counts!

Was it just me or was there no security check AT ALL? Intermission was a madhouse, nobody was giving or checking stamps. A fantastic venue and a far looser atmosphere than I'm used to in LA.

My cold got the best of me so I took advantage of my balcony seat for the majority of the show.  My ears were working fine though and everything sounded terrific.  Things really got cooking from Minglewood on in the 1st set.

I really love how DSO incorporates little era details - for example the melodic strumming intro into Bird Song came back in the mid-80's, and also the now atypical jam within Throwing Stones sounds out of place now, but for the mid 80s is exactly what they were doing.

It was one highlight after another in the second set.  The keyboard snafu during Playin was a visual distraction, but certainly didn't slow the rest of the guys down.

There was a decently teased Spanish Jam out of space (not sure if that was show accurate) but was very enjoyable.

Between the Vegas webcast and the two socal shows, my DSO jones was filled nicely.  Three month countdown till the Jubilee!

Scotty be overshadowing the rest of us. I could only make it to a meager 8 shows. And I guess I missed the show of the tour? Perhaps, but I did get to see Scotty dance in his PJ's in Vegas. Video evidence to follow....

I never thought it was an outshining subject but I know the glory days may be over. I’ll take my 30 to 40 this year. Having been to so many shows I kind of know what venues I want to hit now anyway. Help me prioritize a little bit.

Its Scotty time to shine.

Really stoked to get Delilah to her first show in Florida. I wanna dance with my baby girl.

Weather and flight delays plus venue policies interferes with her making any of the California shows we were doing.

I guess we all chase the ghost of Joseph

i accepted that a long time ago. Joseph was the man. I remember his first days, when a legend was being born. He held the rail like no one else.

Let the shows be y’all’s, I’m done with mine. 😎

Joseph was exceptional in seeing  ALL the shows.  One year he was bragging that he saw more shows than the two drummers.    ( Both Dino and Rob had been out a couple days for special reasons).   But what I really don’t understand is how for three years in a row he managed to get the only parking spot directly in front of Variety Playhouse. And it wasn’t that he just got there early.

Peace and Love,

Doc

Frankly, none of you cats seem neither old nor in the way in this

Thanks, Huck. Would you please tell that to DMV? I am now of an age where I have to go in person to renew my license. On the other hand, the Senior Citizen discount at the Cracked Egg is nice.

A song that for me totally embodies the relationship between two incredible talents that speak to one another thru their instruments. They both really shine in this one. Heard Jeff do it last year, I think Atlanta, and he fucking killed it.  Makes me emotional to hear Jerry sing it during this era. He was awesome.

I did both those jgb merriweather shows, alpine and poplar creek. Horn hat AKG 460's > dbx224(battery converted) >d5. The dixie at merriweather, the lonesome at Alpine and the let's spend at poplar were choice. Heading to Louisville this weekend for Uli jon roth , closest thing to hendrix I've ever seen. My first deal was when jg opened for fz August 1984 in Chicago. the studio version is a good listen.

I love this song. I love the record version, and I love how it changed over the years. There were more than a few hot ones in 1983-1984, then while always good, it seems that 1989 brought out extra hot ones again. I love this one with JGB, its a toss up between this one and the Alpine Valley shows from the summer which I like best from that year.

    • The Motorcycle Song -- Arlo Guthrie

I once bought a kitten and he just kept meowing and meowing. He talked quite a bit. Then I started stringing up my guitar that evening, and he came over and started pawing at the frets, meowing meowing meowing. I looked at this overly talkative creature who was now trying to play his dad's guitar, and the name was obvious at once: Arlo.  12 years later, he still talks a lot. Love Arlo Guthrie. Such a unique and funny personality. Have seen him a few times. He always puts on a great show.
