Great show!

Love the new venue at Rock Row although the concession prices were ridiculous. 🥴

That, and venue security/staff needed to loosen up. Walking towards the entrance, in crosswalk, and the guy checking tickets yells out to me while I'm finishing up a cigarette, "one more drag miss you won't be able to get in, put it out now!". Yikes.

Dso made up for it. Miss the pier though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's a rare filler that encompasses stuff that should have been in the original show.  That New Speedway belonged before drums, and the proper Playin' Reprise belonged after space. So, creative filler!

Ragging on the somewhat truncated 2nd set aside, that Reuben is perhaps the best of the 3 Dead versions.

Sneak in airplane bottles of booze if you plan to drink at a show. All venues have ridiculous prices. At live nation venues I won’t spend a penny if I can avoid it. Others I don’t mind buying a beer(on top of a few airplane bottles). I also check if we can bring in sealed bottles of water and bring the liter ones. It’s the principle of the thing. I’m there for the band and they get my money with a ticket sale, but don’t want to shell out 1-2k a year on Venue concessions. Plus it’s also a principle of a being a good deadhead to sneak things in.  I think many of us pride ourselves on thumbing our noses at authority to an extent.

Fun show. Man, I'm amazed at how this band brings it every night. We're very lucky. You can really appreciate how connected they are to each other musically after all these years. They sound like one big beautiful instrument washing over you.

The venue was "meh", and had me really missing the pier. I love hanging in downtown Portland before the show and the smell of the ocean air during the show. This place was just lots of gravel with grumpy security and way over-priced vendors.

That was indeed strange - hence strange man to kick of the filler segment :)

Perhaps nothin on that Reuben - my favorite of the 3!

Best way to drink cheaply

get a zip lock bag the press close ones not the hard tab, fill it with ur tequila of choice and place it on your hip .

saves 20$ a show

Pro tip: if with a gf/wife, sneak it all in their bra. Those will hold 2 vapes, booze, and of course things like chapstick, gum, etc as purses are not the way to go at a show. Boobs are like a fanny pack but better and multi purpose. After the show getting in bed will result in “I wondered where _______ went” as coins, cash and Lost vape carts fall out.

Rude you forgot empty sun tan lotion bottle, didn’t you do that at BM? Haha..That was interesting. I usually just fill a Poland spring bottle with Jameson and crush till it’s flattened enough and smuggle it in, MC knows I always come prepared

We went to Walmart and got these 3oz empty lotion containers that I filled with four roses single barrel barrel strength bourbon all west coast tour last year. They went in her Fanny pack. No one is going to open chicks lotion containers. Great minds think alike Vic. People gave me a weird look when drinking from it. It’s like the it’s always Sunny episode the gang goes to the jersey shore. Everyone else was drinking booze from lotion containers but Charlie was drinking sun tan lotion lol.

She sets off the scanner every time we go in but, unlike with males, it goes no further. If questioned she just says underwire bra lol. These new wands don’t just detect metal. They detect gaps and liquids. Booze has set it off before. Of anyone going to a show, she’d be the one you wouldn’t guess was sneaking stuff in lol. But that was my influence to start and she’s now taken it to a whole other level. She once snuck in bowl and a vape. I’m like why do you need 2. She’s like the vape is the chaser. Monster I tell ya. I’ll be like shit I forgot the airplane bottles at the hotel. She’s like I already got them in my bra. She’s the organizer and I’m the planner. We make a good travel team :)  I also have my 1st set rule. Gotta drink all the booze you are going to drink set 1 to be sober by drive time in cities with free parking. That’s probably a foreign concept to New Yorkers and Chicagoans. You mean some cities have free parking lots. Yes they do. ;)

Thompson Point would be an epic venue for DSO to visit in Portland next summer. If not, hopefully back to the pier. Westbrook venue drab, boring, overpriced and ornery staff.

A song that for me totally embodies the relationship between two incredible talents that speak to one another thru their instruments. They both really shine in this one. Heard Jeff do it last year, I think Atlanta, and he fucking killed it.  Makes me emotional to hear Jerry sing it during this era. He was awesome.

I did both those jgb merriweather shows, alpine and poplar creek. Horn hat AKG 460's > dbx224(battery converted) >d5. The dixie at merriweather, the lonesome at Alpine and the let's spend at poplar were choice. Heading to Louisville this weekend for Uli jon roth , closest thing to hendrix I've ever seen. My first deal was when jg opened for fz August 1984 in Chicago. the studio version is a good listen.

I love this song. I love the record version, and I love how it changed over the years. There were more than a few hot ones in 1983-1984, then while always good, it seems that 1989 brought out extra hot ones again. I love this one with JGB, its a toss up between this one and the Alpine Valley shows from the summer which I like best from that year.

I once bought a kitten and he just kept meowing and meowing. He talked quite a bit. Then I started stringing up my guitar that evening, and he came over and started pawing at the frets, meowing meowing meowing. I looked at this overly talkative creature who was now trying to play his dad's guitar, and the name was obvious at once: Arlo.  12 years later, he still talks a lot. Love Arlo Guthrie. Such a unique and funny personality. Have seen him a few times. He always puts on a great show.
