Loved Brown Eyed Woman and The Music Never Stopped, particularly since Butch from Splintered Sunlight joined in so well. Weather Report was "sweet". Kevin Rosen's original was moving. By the time I found my way to the stage between sets, I was ready to join the usual suspects! Great show with a great outpouring of love! Peace I agree - I couldn't figure what was hotter- the band or the sauna-like conditions in the venue itself. don't get me wrong - I love Mexicali, but it has it's flaws, most notably it can get awful crowded up in that spot, and then you'd better learn to like getting all sweaty and sticky or get the hell out! aside from that, this was one of my favorite Terrapin Nation shows ever. tell you the truth the last few that I've been to have all been outstanding shows that just reached in deep in dug out some treasures - both common and rare. from the double dose of the disco we got way back earlier this year (second set Shakedown and Dancin') to Skip's awsome Pig on Midnight Hour and Hard to Handle the last time out as Terrapin... something about Mexicali just brings out the awsomeness in spades specifically to last night - I absolutely loved the Dear Prudence, shook my head in wonder at the new 'band favorite' Pride of Cucamonga (I think I've seen it played 4 times in the last 7 or 8 shows) and was absolutely rolicking with Butch's contribution on Brown Eyed and Music. killer stuff really... second set was no slouch either, as the Shakedown opener just took me through wave after wave of dancin' and stomipin' and generally grinning like an idiot... but the part I'm most glad for is that I stuck it out and hung around for Lisa's awsomeness on Stir it up. I was waiting the whole night for her to take the spotlight on something - anything (yes Music was a spotlight, but that was just as much Butch and Eaton's moment)... Kinda thought we might get a You aint woman enough -- but the Stir it Up worked out quite nicely for all. just a nice and easy way to simmer it down after sweating out more in one night than I did the entire weekend at the Ledges. Forum MVP nwnj steve Posted July 16, 2007 Forum MVP Report Share Posted July 16, 2007 I would luv to add my 2 cents about this show- as always the band was hot , my wife &i were on kevins side of the stage for the first set which was ,well the jam in pride was really cool and the hey joe tease, met alot of wonderful people as always, went out side during break ,yea to cool down,go in side ,had to get almost up front to the right ,first place was taken which is fine .My fault for leaving-go get some waters they ran out.Shakedown started ,great interaction between j.k. &rob b. these younger people next to me start punching each other knocking into my wife &me, I think thats how they were showing that they were getting into it ,I really don't know ,then some one i think threw a beer bottle in our direction & cut krises leg , it kind of changed my mood so we decided to split .I 've said it before I just prefer the theatre of outdoor gigs so much .musically this was another magical weekend& i think mex is just to goddam small for these guys- peace steve Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Loved every second of the show, but was upset when you guys passed us in front and you told us about the Beer bottle. It's a terrible thing, and it took some irresponsible asshole to ruin your 2nd set. Overall, though it was a great weekend!! From Manheim on friday, Pony on Saturday, and Mex on Sunday, Sue & I had an excellent time! Great meeting you and hey, we should celebrate our wedding anniversaries at the same time!! That was my first time at Mexicali, and if the atmosphere (physical, not social) last night is how it always is, I will never return. That was just totally unacceptable. It's the middle of July and it was cooler OUTSIDE! Other than that, I think it's a great venue. Excellent bar and beer selection, and from what I hear the food is great too. Nice intimate setting, and stellar sound. Too bad I couldn't take anymore profuse sweating after the first set and split. I bet set 2 was even hotter (no pun intended). I'm assuming the beer bottle came from the 70 year old steriod user in the front row, just a guess.. The rowdiness and drunken escapades usually do take place at bars rather than theatres, I suggest you join the rather large and mellow contingent in the front row or only see dso at theatres!! Nothing has been quite like the sauna last night. The above mentioned 70 year-old (gracing us with his buffness without a shirt) is evidently a fixture there with his friend. He dropped a glass drink on the nice hard floor during the first set, leaving a trail of broken glass that did not enhance the dancing experience at all. I thank the wall of Steves for giving me some actual dancin' room at front row, which is a place I rarely inhabit. And they also extended to me the courtesy of an East Coast nom de dance...henceforth, when I am in this time zone I will sign all hotel bills and bar tabs as "Vegassteve." Terrapin Nation) there and never made a reservation... well... apparently that's a no-no, cause waiting for our dinner to arrive, we get yelled at (and I mean, fuming-mad yelled at) by Eli... completely inapproperate, and uncalled for... i'm fairly certain after that, I won't be eating there ever again.... and for christs sakes... get some AC in that place... Other then that, great time... the crowd was definatly a little on edge, but putting 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag (and I mean that in a loving way), and the incredible heat in that place, I can't really blame the crowd to much... the show itself was fantastic, by far the best TN show I've seen to date. Highlights include a great version of The Buisness, Hard Rain, Raygun, and American Spring.... well that and the ride back to Brooklyn by the fantastic, Nantucket... I do like the version of The Business on the Mix CD... and I kinda wonder why that isn't the way DSO *cough* I mean Terrapin Nation plays it... seems like it's more of a straight I IV V blues take the way they did it up at Mexicali - which is nice, but it's so much more melodic by the Mix. In fact, I've got that tatooed right where the tramp stamp ought to go. That show sounds like it was a keeper. I love their version of Stir It Up.
