Holy shit. I just now saw those emojis or whatever they are on the right side of the posts! LOL! I am SO old school and basically ANTI-social media literate because I just don't want to go down that road. My life has been fking superb W/O any of that crap! Simple and REAL is the way I like to live. But whatever, Taper Ron, thanks for the insight!!! And taking the time to explain things. The word "react" is the key word, and that stuff is on the right side of the posts! I thought it meant "respond". The newbie is still in the learning stages................ What I'm NOT learning about is how much I love listening to LIVE GD and going to DSO shows!!!! 14 Dayz........... I feel lucky! (Time to hit the "play" button for one of the best Shakedowns-----06-30-85, and CRANK IT!!!!!) Mark -
Saw Skeleton Krewe play it at mousetrap albeit in July

Warning thread drift~ with all the fore mentioned renditions of Jolene ~ This makes me wonder how many dead bands played Days Between during the Days Between. It's been in my repertoire since 2009 after seeing John K perform it with DSO at a show in Boulder (without a monitor). When memorized and then emotionally delivered, it's quite the experience for both performer and audience.
-
Ton of tributes. Probably seen 4 live Jolene’s in the last week by different artists and got a 9 to 5 and more at Billy’s freak fair fest. Well deserved. No one is was universally loved as Miss Dolly Parton it seems. RIP

The best examples, IMHO, of lyrics invading one's mind, is when by whatever reason a familiar Dead song throws up a few lines that you interpret anew. For me, this is most typical with Garcia/Hunter material. It usually happens based on a new life experience, but it can also happen out of nowhere by a surprisingly fresh interpretation. To wit: despite Jerry shelving it after 3 live plays, I consider If I Had The World To Give top notch Garcia/Hunter stuff. And I digress by noting DSO seems to agree, as it pops up more than occasionally in elective shows. More digression: this shit fascinates me - what made Jerry take up great songs that he poingently delivered only to abandon them? Sing Me Back Home and She Belongs To Me are a couple other good examples. World To Give is classic Hunter, whereby its thrust is powerfully uplifting, only to go against that grain while not in obvious fashion (and of course we all know Hunter thrived on the non-obvious nebulous verse). Anyway, I'm trying to get to lines I heard in a newfound darkness. "Only if you let me be your world, could I ever give this world to you." What an awful concept, and what an unhealthy sentiment.

One of the true great souls we’ve ever known in our lifetime. The greatness of the art of her music, somehow pales in comparison to the kind of woman she was. This about sums it up for me
-
She was Jerry’s favorite female singer. I enjoyed learning about her earliest work from the Ken Burns documentary on Country music. She goes all the way back to the roots.
-
One of my all time favorites. Thank you for sharing this. RIP Dolly. Another star above shines bright.

I’m in Rome today. These lyrics have been with me forever. Today more than most “oh the streets of Rome are filled with rubble. Ancient footprints are everywhere.” A beautiful statement of hope. ”someday, everything’s gonna be different….when I paint my masterpiece”.

Thanks for that blast from the past, Doc! I’d say ‘06 sounds about right… ((( Sara ))) ❤️❤️❤️ And Herdy - God, I miss you ❤️❤️❤️🫏🫏🫏❤️❤️❤️

I'm not aware of glitches where replies don't show. I hadn't replied to this post, Me Tea and DesertDead did "React" to it. You would have received notifications of that. I did do an Upgrade on Wednesday (8/19), I forgot to take the Forums offline as I usually do. Perhaps the others posted their reply during that time. Sorry for the inconvenience.... I am Old and on Medication. Welcome to the Forums! ☮️ -
Lyrics that invade your mind
Greg from Chestertown replied to Ammagamalin Crew's topic in Random Thoughts
A couple that get me because they show just how well read and intelligent Robert Hunter and Bob Dylan were. In Casey Jones, “Trouble ahead, trouble behind” makes me think of the true story of Casey Jones. He pulled his train into a railroad siding to let another train through. Unfortunately, his train was longer than the siding so he had to put his engine back on the main track so that the other train would make it past his caboose. Train kept A- rollin’ right into Casey and his engine. In Desolation Row, “The Titanic sails at Dawn, everybody is shouting which side they are on.” The word “Posh” comes from Port out, Starboard home. Leaving Europe, that would put those passengers in the sun for the entire voyage. I’m sure there’s more like that but those two have invaded my mind and set up camp. That’s what I think of when I hear those lyrics. -

Right on, Tea! It's so crazy you mention Christmas morning as that's what I tell my wife and I am SO lucky to have that feeling again with this band! I had it with The Stones back in the day and now I am lucky enough to have that same feeling again with The GD! 2 bands in one lifetime! LUCKY!!! It's EXACTLY like that!!!! (Christmas morning as kid) You long-time Dead fans are so perceptive and real and I love all of you! Seriously, every show I meet great, happy, real people and it makes the whole damn thing 100 times better than just the show!!! I've had an insanely great life so far but now that I've found DSO, it's 1000 times better!!!!!! WOW! ~ BTW, Deal on 11-14-87 is sick. 😉 -
We feel the energy of your anticipation. Christmas morning comin your way ⚡️

I'll be there! Find me and we'll have a blast, guaranteed. (I have a feeling it won't be that hard. LOL.) This may be the greatest trip I've ever taken in my life and I've done some serious trips. (Literally, musically, vegetably, and chemically) CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😃
