  1. https://jambands.com/news/2022/08/02/grateful-dead-fan-documentary-box-of-rain-debuts-on-streaming-platforms/ A new Grateful Dead fan documentary, ‘Box of Rain’, has been released on various online streaming platforms, including Fire TV, Android, iOS, Apple TV, Roku, Samsung TVs, LG TVs and Plex. The film was produced and directed by San Francisco filmmaker Lonnie Frazier, who tells the story of a life-changing road trip that occurred in 1985, and the Grateful Dead community that uplifted her in a time of desperate need. Box of Rain recounts Frazier’s agonizing experience at the age of 17, which pushed the young woman into a state of suicidal contemplation amid a path of self-destruction and chaos after a scarring incident in her hometown. However, Frazier’s condition took a positive turn when a pal invited her on a weekend getaway at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., to see the Grateful Dead. The result of the concerts was a life-altering shift that gave Frazier a much-needed sense of community and resilience to keep moving forward. Frazier’s film is steeped in the healing power of music and explores the unique kinship of Deadheads while emphasizing the importance of friendship. All the while following the filmmaker’s experience in the eighties, which extends to modern times with the director returning to the fabled Colorado venue. Along the way, the film recounts stories and shares interviews that debunk common stereotypes about followers of the Grateful Dead community. In turn, Box of Rain focuses on the shared harmony of misfits in search of support and kinship.

  2. I too caught BCE at The Enchanted Forest. Cute tree populated outdoor venue in the midst of urban sprawl shared with brewery.

  3. I feel like we saw different shows. 🤣😆 We stayed up top for space and sound and hung round in front of the VIP tent. Luke said he liked Friday's show over all 3 from Louisville. I thought that was a little much, but had a great time and didn’t leave disappointed in the least. The Fiddler feels to me like a perfect fit. Boys went back Saturday with friends but I stayed home for BCE in New Albany (basically Louisville) which was in an awesome little outdoor venue.

  4. Billy Strings Friday night in Indy. Average show in a super packed Amphitheater where they had the house lights on all through the show. Boo. I'll tell you when he hits it hard; however, this was not the show. For one thing he's bringing on a violin player who has to add his lead to each song. And the violin takes up a pretty big space in the sonic world. All good except we didn't get as much banjo as we used to and Billy Failing is a bango player extraordinare. Dark Star was lingering all around the show, but he didn't make it happen. A lot of people around me were hearing it we were all hoping it would be a night full of diamonds. Also was looking for the HSF. Not to be. Almost seemed like Mr. Apostle mail it in which is not BMFS standards. Just saying. It's all fairly new as he's only 29, so there are years of development ahead. Billy stayed on stage long after the show acknowledging the audience after the house turned on music to stop. He still appreciates the magic of an audience. DSO knows this as well. They've been at it for 24 years. Hoping for some upcoming midwest shows to take my dollar.

  5. 1970-01-03, early and late shows Set 1: Morning Dew ; Me And My Uncle ; Hard To Handle ; Cumberland Blues ; Cold Rain And Snow ; Alligator > drums > And We Bid You Goodnite jam > Alligator > Feedback > Uncle John's Band Set 2: Casey Jones ; Mama Tried ; Big Boss Man ; China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider ; Mason's Children ; Cryptical Envelopment > drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment > Cosmic Charlie ; Black Peter ; Dire Wolf ; Good Lovin' ; Dancing In The Street Encore: Saint Stephen > In The Midnight Hour I've been craving my first old school show. It only took 8 years and about 35 shows. This one was a blast and worth the wait! Skip's bass was cranked up in the mix all night, it almost felt like the bass was the lead. A rare treat to get a Mason's - they brought out stands, presumably with the lyrics, for Skip and Eaton. Alligator and the Cryptical thru Cosmic Charlie run were highlights for me, and of course that encore. Nice switch from the Showbox, which I've never been a big fan of. It was hot as hell though, and no sign of air conditioning. Two doors at the side of the room were open to the ocean breeze, and folks would occasionally go stand by the doors to cool off. There were loads of people sitting up in the balcony, not sure how they could take the heat up there. The floor had plenty of elbow room and tons of smiling faces that looked like they couldn't believe their luck getting this show. The crowd was definitely feeling it, and doing their best to ignore the heat. I must have drank a gallon of water but I still felt like shit yesterday and didn't drive down to Eugene. On one hand, I'm dreading learning what I missed there, but on the other I'm happy to have this show fresh in my mind for a while.
