Absolutely… ‘Twas a great way to dive back into the Warfield which I hadn’t been in since over thirty years ago seeing Jerry band shows there…such a beautiful old theater and Cotter had the sound dialed so well for that space with Skip well represented in the mix while he slayed dragons with Mission Control.

A weekend steeped in primo ‘78 DSO in a 100 yr old theater in SF with so much history and soul… The roof was blown out on Saturday night in the best of ways possible… once again the musical journey offered confirms to the cleareat of perspectives that they are TRULY A BAND BEYOND DESCRIPTION WOW ,,,thank you for a REAL good time 🙏🏼

Hey I caught the Sam Grisman Project over the weekend and they are worth hitting up if they come to your area. Cool combo of electric and acoustic in each set doing a mix of GD, Jerry Band, and old traditionals that Jerry and David used to do…nice spread of music and the electric stuff had some juju for sure. Almost added the Sunday night Seattle show when we heard Dawg would be sitting in with them (now 77 or so) but couldn’t quite swing it. Fun presentation of music from a bunch of 30-something rippers…check ‘em out

Caught Grateful Shred last night in Seattle…well named band…great vibes and jams Loose dudes, ready to rip They play again tonight and So does Bobby and wolf bros which I’ve been wavering on but I think we finally figured out our strategy… Get cheapest tix we can find for Bobby at Paramount theater (glad we didn’t already buy anything),,sit and pay homage to Bobby and enjoy the old ornate theater (while visualizing DSO bumping up to there from the Showbox at some point),,take off at set break so we can catch all of grateful shred and DANCE the night away…! Should be a well rounded night 😎 Shred is playing night 9 tonight out of 10 days up the west coast…like old school DSO days when everyone was a bit younger..!!!

It’s great to have the photos to look back on,,even if it’s torture when they are being taken… I don’t know about you Rude,,but I’m getting older by the minute…😂

Thanks for clarifying Doc! Those indigo Girls shows were really fun too… no memory whatsoever of Cracker opening in ‘94 but I was there…
-
Trying to remember what year it was that Little Feat opened for GD in Eugene for a couple shows…’92-93’ish..? Can’t say I remember much of their sets but geez that was a few decades back…

Looks Good Greg… not sure I get the Saturday ‘rest’ part when they’re playing again but getting 2 in the bag will feel so good!! 😄 that’s a damn good week you got going 🤠

Peace to your mother in her final days of life and her journey beyond. It is a unique and raw time that you and your family members have the opportunity to come together and say goodbye and help her through her transition. Although nothing easy about that. Peace to you, brother. 🙏🏼

In a more normal year,,Last night would have typically been the kickoff for the West Coast tour....dammit Just Sayin 😫

I'm thinking next spring will be a drive in tour, or bust....time will tell.

I bet there are a handful of good stories around here regarding cell phone loss or disasters.... Talked to a friend last night who literally had his fall into the toilet...He mentioned that after I shared that on Friday eve of this weekend, I was out on my driveway about to get in the car and go commune with the sunset at the beach and I was scrambling around,,moving some rolls of fencing around out of the way just before I got in the car and split...little did I know that as I was doing so, my cell phone jumped out of my coat pocket and onto the driveway and it turns out ( I discovered when I returned...) that I ran over that sucker on my way out...crunched the hell out of it...totally toast. Moral of the story is that,,while it has been a significant inconvenience suddenly losing my phone access (with nothing backed up in my limited tech capacities..),,,I gotta admit,,,there's part of me that is thoroughly enjoying going old school and having no ability to text in or out for a handful of days.... I appreciate these useful tools,,,but......it's also nice to get some space from that particular tool.... 😜

And stoked up for the next 32 years!

DSO opened the west coast tour in Seattle last year with the Tacoma dome show and brought new life and beauty to it ❇️ Your birthday Autzten show with Jimmy Cliff and Robert Cray was my first GD show....didn't sleep a wink that night...my innocent little 16 yr old mind was blown for good....!

Thanks for that thoughtful analysis Hardpan. I try and rewatch the movie once every year or two and I always get something new out of it every time... I still think it would be well worth if somehow a similarly approached documentary could be created trying to capture and convey the DSO experience. It's such a unique thing... Quality footage on perspectives from both sides of the rail...all of the thought, intention, attention and care brought to this scene by those involved...

That's Right

I caught The Garcia Project (plays JGB) last Thursday down in Portland and wow that's the best post-Jerry JGB music I think I've heard...they played 9/18/76 and was full of beauty. (Mango--Did you catch the double header in southern Oregon over the weekend? I'd be curious your opinion of these guys..) Or anyone else caught these cats? I would put in a few miles to catch them again and there aren't many bands other than dso that get me willing to travel a bit to catch...
-
Wow cool, thanks for that info and photo, John. I never knew Jerry was having a guitar being made for him in '95...very cool that it can get out and get played. What a beautiful work of art

Garcia Birthday Band a couple weekends ago in Portland...they fill the gap quite nicely. Caught last two of a 7 night run (all free shows!) final night did the trick: Set 1; Uncle Johns, Stranger, I'll Take a Melody, Ballad of a Thin Man, Me and My Uncle, That's Alright Mama, Lools Like Rain, When Push Comes to Shove>Touch of Grey Set 2; Morning Dew, Cryptical>Terrapin>Cryptical> Corinna>Black Peter>Dear Mr Fantasy>Hey Jude>Cats Down Under Stars>Another Saturday Night E: Ripple

Indeed. The term I return to over and over during this ongoing kickass DSO era is "Renaissance "
-
Well there were lots of GD cover bands around even when the GD were still touring hard....
-
Potential sleep deprivation around here....😉
