They jammed the end of Miracle out, and Jeff stepped over and hit the Mutron. They played a bit and he counted it off, 1,2,3,4, Whaaoouugghhh, crowd goes wild. There was a consensus during the break where I was standing that they would play Shakedown, but we thought it would kick the set off. Miracle was killer, too, with Skip playing a pair of stubbed off chords (bomblets?) during each line of the verse, high octane, indeed 😎😎😎

Awesome show start to end last night, Skip was on fire and sounded clear and fantastic. High energy, love the tone of the Travis Bean in Jeff's hands. Passenger, Shakedown, Terrapin and Playin were standout highlights to me from an exceptional show.

Here is Tim's excellent sounding recording of this concert if anyone wants to listen to it, it's also in the relisten and etree apps. I'll probably have my stuff up from this weekend in a few days. https://archive.org/details/DSO2018-11-09.DPA4011_plus_NakCM-300.CP4_24bit48khz

I agree that after a series of solid first set stalwarts, the first set really came alive during Bird Song, fooled by a high energy WRS. Second set was killer. Great theater. Huge, expansive dance floor, high ceilings with a shallow balcony that encircled the back of the auditorium up to either side of the stage. Lots of room to dance, with a very high energy group of dancers with lots of room for us to cut loose. Really lovely time, and Jeff playing Jerry's guitar was the icing on the cake. "Dust of those rusty strings just one more time," and he kinda lifted the guitar and angled it towards him, lots of appreciation from the audience for that sentiment. Me and friend Tim both taped the show, both got good recordings, one of us will have it up on relisten first, we will see who.
  5. High energy show, great sound in the theater. Enjoyed Ithaca, first time there, cool city.

  7. 10/18/74, the best video recording of Morning Dew, from The Grateful Dead Movie, and one of the finest.

    Dang, what a list.
  10. Not too shabby of a set one for dancing, either. Great looking show.
  11. Love that Blow Away to start the second set. Looks like a great list.

There's an excellent sounding recording of this show up on Archive/relisten. Thank you to the taper, Michael Frasca.
  13. 10/2/77, great show all around. Bust out of Casey Jones, super high energy peak to set the stage. Solid first set, killer second set. Phil teases The Other One kickoff a few times and finally atomizes the house with a huge sonic blast. His teases remind me of, if you've ever watched a zoom video of the fractal Mandelbrot set (my profile picture) when you occasionally catch a glimpse of the bulb (the black part) amidst all the color. Then when he finally lays it out, it's like finally seeing the bulb zoomed in in all its glory. Or maybe the teases like seeing Kilroy peeping over the wall. Lol. My thoughts listening to The Other One 🤓🤓
  14. I think that's a great point. You might get exactly what you're hoping for with one or two shows, or they might play it a couple hours out of your range on a work night.
  15. Everyone likes different things. Can't fault you for not enjoying elective sets. I prefer recreations, as well, but I have had rip roaring times at elective shows, as well. DSO can wield the power and build up a head of steam on either type of show. I really enjoy the guessing game at year, next songs, etc at a recreation, which goes out the window at an elective. A lot comes down to song choice. Everyone has their snoozers, and DSO will play them, too. Check out the setlist and recording for 7/27/18, elective set which included a saint Stephen > tmns > drums/space > tmns > saint Stephen > dew.
  16. I uploaded this show and the following night's show last night if anyone wanted to listen to them. There are several more recordings also up from this Northeast run if you look through the DSO section on Archive, relisten, etree, etc. https://archive.org/details/dso2018-08-13.nak300.cp4.flac24
  17. I retract, no drums during The Other One.
  18. There was a short drums portion during The Other One.

  20. One drummer, Rob K. playing drums. Enjoyed the Barraco treatment of Good Lovin, out on a four day creep, etc. Dark Star was excellent, got really cool and dissonant after the verse, with Skip pounding out and strumming huge, loud chords and Jeff doing the meltdown style fanning. The Eyes was also good, with the band doing the intense repeating early style ending jam after the Skip solo and bass drop. Interesting song selection, lots of shorter stand alone songs and stuff I haven't seen them play before. Lisa brought down the house on You Ain't Woman Enough and Hurts Me Too. Enjoyed the venue and the area. Looking forward to tomorrow night, my last one until fall.

  23. Great show, second set was as good as it looks on paper. Morning Dew was really strong, great dynamics from pin drop tender to thunderous. Skip started off on gingerbread in Tom Thumb Blues. Grateful that the rain for the most part, held off.
  24. I really enjoyed that extended jam after Terrapin, and the jam after drums was also cool. Nice venue, nice that it was an early show too.
  25. Rockng first set. Highlight for me was Cumberland, but strong throughout. Second set Shakedown, Samson, high dance energy. To Lay Me Down, ripping Let it Grow, drums, He's Gone, smoking Other One, lovely Stella Blue. Sugar Magnolia, Casey Jones, more heat, and Ripple to bring it back home. Really nice venue, overall.
