Actually, it was tonight. Just caught the high and wides album release concert at the Garfield theatre in Chestertown. Original bluegrass, they’ve been around for a while, pretty tight, used to be called a chester river runoff. They’re doing a few more album release shows in the near future on the Western shore, DC,Baltimore area. I would if I were you.

Spring Tour 2020 - 1st Leg is Up

I caught Billy Strings playing the underground on PBS a few months back. I was amazed by the band and especially the venue. I posted that on the Billy Strings thread. Some of us were talking about how it would be cool if DSO played the underground, and now they are. Pretty cool. -
Hey, Bix. My Dad’s a barber. I ‘ll cut your hair.
-
I dig that filler too. Nice reminder of the season!
-
I’m dying to but responsiblities must come first. I ‘be been known to hop in the truck at the last minute and head on to the show. Kinda what I do.
-
I’m diggin’ that filler!

Scramble, Daydream

Lmao. That happened at the beginning of the second set first night at the Hamilton this spring. Nobody around me acted like anything was wrong so I figured I was hallucinating.
-
I’m liking help slip foolish heart. It’s a shame Jerry’s exercise regimen kept them from doing things like that. I’m glad Dark Star Orchestra has taken up the torch.
-
Damn!, I was at the original show. I went into the spectrum as soon as the doors opened, walked down front like I belonged there. I sat in the ninth row on Jerry’s side. What a treat to be able to watch the guitarists hands, especially during the second set jam. My first child was born two weeks earlier, He spent a week in ICU. People couldn’t believe that I went, but hey, it’s my religion. I was going to church. Original ticket stub is $19.50.

Random thoughts and randomness in general
Greg from Chestertown replied to Rude's topic in Random Thoughts
Jack Black cracks me the fuck up. If you grew up in the seventies, he lived in your neighborhood, went to your school. I watch School of Rock every time it comes around on my television. -
I thoroughly understand the taping/letting loose scenario. I prefer to go to shows alone, seeking the oasis of total untetheredness, ingest the music, soothe my soul.

Looks like Eaton wasn’t singing. Is he ok? Yea, Lisa’s the best. Another fun set list. We are fortunate to have this band in our lives. Did you record it?
-
I did notice in Philly that Eaton was coughing here and there, usually at the end of a song. Understandable, they give it their all.
-
Damn! I made a wrong turn as soon as I left Philly, shouldn’t have gone home. Nice set list.
-
Eaton was just wringing the hell out of his guitar. He Kept going up to the front edge of the stage while he was doing this, with a little bit of ‘take that, mother fuckers’ swagger. Skip bombed the fuck out of the place. Jeff’s vocals were sweet. Rob Barracco was doing some crazy shit during space with some kind of instrument or gadget, might have been a widget. 80’s Drums are great for shaking you to the core. Lisa got to shine during the encore. It was all good. Venue was chill. Upgrade from Electric Factory, definitely. The crowd was great. Met some more new friends, got to know some old friends better. I’m so glad I made it. I needed a show.

I wasn’t at the original but I was at the original night before. That was the first night after the actual earthquake in San Fran. They opened up with Shakedown.
-
Filler; that’s what love will make you do. Had a a blast last nite. The band is on fire.

Reminds me of an idea I had for a license plate. 123 BACK

Yea, I was just listening to 11/15/71. I think it was 71. Dark Star into ElPaso so, anything goes. Unique, therefore, enjoyable. I remember being at RFK, 7/12/90. The band was getting lost in the musical abyss rabbit hole of Dark Star. I looked over at a ‘kid’ not too far away. He just rolled his eyes. I said, ‘ let them go. They’re doing what they want.’ they’re not the best at what they do. They’re the only ones who do what they do.

And the 647th runner up is......

I’m seeing it as reminiscent of the Grateful Dead’s 1980 acoustic shows or the 1989 formerly the Warlocks shows. Classic shows with a short prep time with Phil’s cancellation that will go down in history. I’m guessing for years people will be saying, ‘I was at those shows’. I have the distinct honor of buying a ticket and just not going. I feel like George Castanza when he takes a girl home and she invites him up for coffee. ‘No, I better not. It’ll keep me up’.

The dirty grass players, along with the high and wides (Formerly Chester River Runoff) at the Garfield Theatre in Chestertown, Md. as part of the Downrigging festival. Tall ships and bluegrass all weekend. At times, there were two fiddles, two mandolins or two banjos on stage. Freestylin bluegrass jams, original stuff, a few ‘Dead’ tunes. Rosalee McFall, Goin’ down the road feelin’ bad, Deep Elem Blues. I ran into the guitar player for the high and wides at the grocery store today. I thanked him and commented that they were just winging it last night. He said, yea, a lot of those songs I had never played before.

It hurts me too. I had a ticket for Halloween but the Gods interfered. Cosmic Charlie
