  1. This was a very important show for me. I had just lost my grandfather the day before. Hearing the music really lifted my spirits and some songs stirred memories for myself. Box of Rain opener was perfectly fitting. Man smart, woman smarter, ramble on rose, and masterpiece were all played with aplomb. I remember thinking Skip in particularly was on fire. Bit of a hometown show for him. First set really broke open from loser on. Cumberland blues, which is a top 5 song (in case you didn’t know that), had that perfectly dizzying playing. Broken Arrow, another song of the bucket list and another song for Skip. Deal provided a fiery close to the set. Second set was pretty choice imo. Not a huge UJB fan but it made sense for the venue. Mission was fantastic and emotional. Corrina was a nice slinky dance. Loved Jeff’s tone. Unbroken chain (three skip songs!) was really tight. I remember thinking the drums portion sounded like something out of terminator. Low spark has been such a welcome addition to the repertoire. Love it. Jeff had some issues before throwing stones and took a while to get his guitar just right. Couldn’t tell if it was a string or what. Seemed to last forever. And then Dew to finish it all of was about all I could ask for. Very strong finish. Had a feeling they’d have a hard curfew and not do an encore. Bit of a bummer. Loved being on the sand but the venue preparedness was woeful. Six portapotties and they ran out of beer? Come on now. All that aside, it was really wonderful to see so many faces here (you know who you are). Everyone was super kind and supportive. A good night for my soul.

  3. Wonderland Toronto 6/30/87 Most of the songs had something to do with the border crossing hell people had to go through to get to this show. 1 1/2 hour search of my car. First set Ramble on rose (try to walk the line), think of terror if you give this show a listen. Esp. second set other one (heat came round and busted...)> china doll (just a little nervous from the fall... it all started to make sense to me) and then cheering us all up with a Dear Mr Fantasy (something to make us all happy) I was once again at peace. I had a D5 and knew the Scarlet Fire was coming out there, had to be there, did the whole tour with a had to be there approach. Wish I could bring up the set or a link, but at work and just wanted to chime in on 6/30

  4. 85/06/30 Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD Mississippi Half Step>CC Rider>Brown-Eyed Women, Mama Tried>Mexicali Blues, Keep on Growing, Big RR Blues>Looks Like Rain>Don't Ease Me In. Shakedown Street>Samson and Delilah, Gimme Some Lovin'>He's Gone>Cryptical>Drums>Space>Other One> Stella Blue>Around and Around>Sugar Magnolia. E: US Blues. First of two monster performances at Merriweather. Band amazingly energized, check the rainbow of textures provided by Brent throughout. Keep On Growing one of four and only first setter, counting the Greek breakout 85/06/14 set 1.5. Second opens with a high water mark Shakedown, scorching final jam. Of the five Crypticals in 85, two did not wrap the Other One, this play skipping the outro. The Bobby twofer to close a romp. Praise DSO.
