there are plenty of GD bands out there worth seeing live and dancing to. Very few are worth listening to via stream or recording. my local band (there are literally 20+ in the philly area) is Zendog. Don't let the name fool you- they play all GD, mostly in the style of 72-78. I find that this gives them a direction. Many bands are trying to "do their own thing" with the music and I generally does not do it for me. I'm not a purist- I believe in mutating the music. but you have to be very talented to attempt that.

if I had my way, every venue would be like the Anthem. Tired of these theaters....Grateful Dead shows are meant for open spaces. Not Seats. Listen to those early 70s theater shows- they spend half the show telling folks to go back to their seats. We want to DANCE. Usually theaters at least have good sound but I found the sound to be very boomy in there. Sorry I'm all complaints. Still love DSO~

Meant to drop in here… not sure I have much to say. Not gonna break it down blow by blow….I’m no Velvet Thunder. But, yeah, really great time in ST Aug. cool town, great venue. Was down in the pit. Sound wasn’t perfect- I know it sounded better up in the seats but we were enjoying our spot down front left. Some cool new dancers that I did not know. Also saw many friends from DSO years past- Gary, Bix, Brian/Nicole, Kris/Scott, Jerry Stohner and Deb, Osean, Vince/Sue. No Torin…. Been too long my brother. Show was good. First set very high energy, no messin around. Simple twist was sweet, Run Rudolf silly. Stranger and Shakedown gettin funky. Really loved the Tomorrow Never Knows…never thought the GD did any Justice to this song, but Barraco and Lisa were really playing with it in a psychedelic way. 2 voices in the band! No offense everyone else 😜 morning Dee was perfect- par for the DSO course. Thank you!!!

my ability to HEAR the music is inseparable from my body's freedom to MOVE to it. So i don't care how nice a theatre is....i care about having a flat open floor to receive the music on. The music of the Grateful Dead is about Freedom; theaters are restrictive and they favor those with money. I like GA- or at least a GA floor.

my show attendance in 2023 has been abysmal. My work has taken off more this year and I often work weekends- and this was so for every would be chance to see DSO. I think before last night I saw 3 shows- Red Bank, one night of Albany, and Penn's Peak. Maybe i'm missing something else....easily the least number of shows since my earliest days of show going. Like....probably 2003. That's crazy. anyways, it worked out to make it to the Anthem, a venue that has been hyped up like crazy for a few years now. and it met the hype!! every venue should be like this. The show was great. DSO played fantastic. And to be back on the dance floor, the music moving through me was nothing short of transcendent. Yum. Got my eyes on St. Aug in Dec....

wow, didn't realize it had been that long. a bunch in 08/09 and then 2 in 2014. I saw the 2nd to last, with Bob Weir at the Great American Music Hall. Bass solo and all.

it wasn't a very good song, lol, hence not making it out of 65/66. None of those early original numbers did. I think Cream Puff War is fun and I'd love to see Jeff and DSO shred it.

I saw Melvin at Ardmore a couple months back. Very strict about the masks. Clearly to many people it is acceptable. I am happy for them. I strongly dislike having to wear a mask inside. While dancing. But i'm still considering going to Splintered Sunlight tomorrow night.

Brent's last show.... listened last week. His last solo line sung was "I've got to go but my friends can stick around". Definitely not in agreement that he was saying goodbye but it sure is synchronistic...

...i recall a late night- mighty high 2011- hotel hysteria. With the Silent Knight we listened to SPAC 83, and we didn't get much sleep that night. Cool matrix of that show.

Which song is that? No, it's a random inside joke that no one here is inside of. Suffice to say that my hilarious and Brilliant friend was once talking, while under the influence of Lady L, about the nature of DNA and finished his diatribe by yelling "double helix!" While spinning and recreating the double helix. It was a 'had to be there's moment, one that will never be created again. Sakada was there, maybe he's lurking around the forums and can attest to the brilliance of the moment. All really good but I loved Green Earrings and the transition from Deal>reelin in the years was top notch. Way to go A-bear.

Here to confirm that it was in fact awesome. My two favorite bands, melted into one. A bear, two keyboards, drums, bass. Homeboy from the lodge sat in on Sax but no one touring with them- surprising as horns are a big part of Steely Dan.

IMO a true man is balanced. No one is purely yin or yang. But as i said, "intellectual" doesn't imply intelligence. So i agree that our world suffers from a lack of quality men but dont agree that men need to be devoid of feminine qualities to be "true men".

True intelligence is not arrived at purely through the intellect. True intelligence is attained through a balance of the left and right, male and female, hemispheres of the brain. Neither pole of the duality is smarter but there is certainly a long standing male imbalance going on in the world. I hope we can find the middle, the ying-yang. Does anyone care? Some do.
