Went to the Fabulous Fox in St Louis to see Sturgill Simpson/ Johnny Blue skies as he goes by now, again. There was a group of cowboy hat dudes way up front. He plays half of his metal album over the 1st 8 songs. They left and we moved up. A buddy there said peeps are gonna leave when they realize this ain’t a country show. It’s hard melty rock jam. This configuration anf sound is new but their drummer from Lexington is fantastic but he can’t lose the beat or tightrope it. I can see how it’s hard to not play on beat but I hope that evolves. Solid fills and technical work etc but to take the psychedelia out there more you gotta lose the beat. Now he will leave all kick drums and Toms alone while the guitar shreds to create that effect. Sorta how the drummers will do during a terrapin one time around but I’d love to see this band learn from each other and keep evolving. Playing with Bobby and him saying Jerry is his favorite guitarist definitely led to this sound change. 3 hours and around 30 song set. The Fox is a fantastic venue too.

That’s happened before. Sometimes venues release dates before they are supposed to and we’ve been able to sleuth an idea of where tour will be. Guess west coast winter. Back in the day, it was Midwest winter but ice could make it rough. West coast makes more sense although I remember driving from Cali to Tahoe and were lucky to make it there with heavy snow falling and were lucky the band made it as they cancelled one a few years ago.

I think Pisgah is OK. They were distributing water. They evidently have 4000 gallons of clean water at all times stored to make beer and were distributing it. Have to assume they came out ok if they were doing that.

I really wanna do some of this but the logistics are exhausting. I’m barely hanging on with a boy at the peak of his wildness. My nerves are frayed. I prob need shows but everything feels like such a chore now when ut involves 6am flights and rental cars. There’s also underlying thoughts of abandonment by our band. Northeast is in heaven. We ain’t. Having to find other shit to see. It will likely approach 9 months without a show within 10 hours unless winter is more than 4 hours from the ocean. This begs the question. Did a band member get turned into a mermaid and needs salt water every few days. I’m just asking questions. Also did DSO create the hurricane to avoid Asheville? Bad breakup with someone there and they changed the weather to avoid them? Just asking questions.

Our flood gates can withstand a 1937 flood. Several years ago we had one 6’ less and it was 5 feet up the flood wall. The flood wall only protects the town not the outlying areas though

When Jim cantore visited us in 2009, we had ice storm devastation and had to come together to rebuild. Luckily we were in flatlands not mountains. People waited at Lowe’s all day for a possible chainsaw or generator delivery. We now have extremely high rate of full home generator ownership here after that and ice just downs trees and power lines but we still had a dry place with a roof. Can’t imagine a flood like that even though I’m on the Ohio. Love you and Chris and Kristin. Be safe.

Random thought within the next several years, the Beatles will have many albums having their 60th anniversary. That’s crazy. Creation of modern psychsdelic music is almost 60yrs old assuming you exclude jazz which created it all.

Friday 9/27 at Rupp Arens watched a 38 song 3 hour 26 minute set. 1 set. 8:00 on the dot to 11:26. “Kentucky don’t give a fuck about no hurricane”. Sturgill ripped my face off. Melty and jammy. It was some goodness it was so long of a show meili asked if he played turtles yet and I’m like it was like 12 songs ago. It became surreal at the end. It was so deep a dive for that long consecutive music I sorta lost track with reality. The constant song>song>song gave no reprieve.

I’d suggest putting them on CashorTrade and putting a link to the post here. That way anyone needing tix can do it in a safe trading environment. Scammers have tried to scam here and that’s a face value ticket site with minimal fees.
