Was on my ways to the Keys last week when we heard the news. The man embodied the Caribbean spirit. Like Marley was to Reggae, Jimmy Buffet was to island rock. His concert parking lots were up there with GD lot parties. Many parrot heads will be feeling this for a while. RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfuMsrQHFgk

Like Rude said no rythem guitar that night for JGB, but the night before they played a full on Dead show and Tom Circosta filled in for Rob E. I thought he did an admirable job. Tom was a Zen Trickster and played with Jeff and I think Rob B too. Pretty sure Rob E. was back at it the next show. Dark Star Orchestra 8-4-23 Weather Report - YouTube

Great show in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the band tuning up and didn't see Rob E. out there panic started to set in. Wasn't sure what was going on. But Tom C. more than held his own. I was thoroughly impressed by the relief guitarist out of the bullpen. The band was spot on once again. High energy on Hey Pockey Way. Skip belted out Tom Thumbs, Terrapin was cooking with gas. My first Low spark which fit the night perfectly. It was probably like 20mins long and could have lasted 40. Bugs tried to carry the band away in the first set but they fought through, along with some roof drippage issues from the earlier storm. Touch was a nice ender. Can't thank the band enough for bringing it 100% every time they step out on the stage. The passion, dedication to their craft is unmatched. Even professional athletes that get paid hundreds of millions of dollars take nights off and just go through the motions. I've never seen DSO not leave everything they have on the stage every night. It's gotta be hard with personal stuff, ailments, travel to just bring it everyday but they do. A rare breed indeed. Praise DSO Dark Star Orchestra 8-4-23 Weather Report - YouTube

Awesome setlist, awesome venue, DSO doing JGB was a nice treat. Each song was jammed out pretty hard. So many highlights. Mission was flawless. They said Rob E. had to get off his feet for a bad sciatica. If DSO decides to come back and headline this festival again (2 nights) it's a no brainer. My first time there and it was pretty pretty good. If you look up chill in the dictionary there should be a picture of this place. Huge wooded area for camping. A creek/stream ran right through the properly, people were in the creek the whole time on inflatables jamming to the music, many hammocks abound, the preferred thing to do was catch a nap at some point during the day. Music on Friday 2:30p-4:00a and music on Sat. from noon-4:00a. They also had early bird shows Thurs night. Just impressed with the vibe, the bands, everything. Didn't see one security guard or cop all weekend, soo many vendors selling food, cloths, and pretty much anything you can think of. The best part about it was it's BYOB. As much as I like paying $22 a beer at places like the Peach festival for One beer, this is a breath of fresh air. Place was literally out in the middle of nowhere. Back roads for a while, just fields, mountains, and rivers then the venue. There's something about a DSO show that is smack dab in the middle of mother nature. I saw how DSO just threw a stage up out in Jackson Hole and rocked out on the edge of a mountain. This kinda had the same vibe even though we were down in a valley. Kudos to the band for making it an awesome weekend.

And you don't even get a physical ticket anymore. I miss the days of camping out at ticket locations in a mall. Getting random numbers or bracelets then buying physical tickets that I could do with what I want and be able to save the stubs as a little reminder of the event. Also entering a venue was 1000% easier. They rip your ticket, you keep the stub and you're in. Now its wait in a see of people, get a rectal exam & a radiation scan (for security) then they have to try to scan everyone's barcode on peoples phones. Society is going in the wrong direction all for "convenience"?

Just did a quick search on https://www.setlist.fm/song/grateful-dead/candyman-4bd687ee.html Clicked on about 7 shows and they all played Candyman in the 1st set, so you might be onto something.

DSO took it to a new level on the PA mountaintop. Sold out show, people were hanging from the rafters, still was able to find dance space when needed. Chinacat > Rider right out of the gate set the tone. BIODTL in the first was also taken to new heights. Shakedown 2nd set opener was prime. The whole second set was the crescendo. A nice culmination with the Stephen Stills Love the one your're with, which I think was a first time for me. A great night was had by all. I do remember having to go through a sobriety checkpoint on the way home on route 443. Luckily the cops were cool and sent me on my way. Might not have been 100% sober but pulled the jedi mind trick on them. Probably take the hiway home from now on.

The gang came out with a smoking Promised Land knocking the dust off the rafters at XL Live. Cassidy had a real funky beat. Bertha>Good Lovin' is always a burner. Truckin was played with poise and intensity right into Around and Around which definitely had the joint jumping. US Blues kept the crowd in a frenzy. My first time hearing Piece of my Heart...Wow very impressive. Good to see Rob B. back on stage.

A few tips for Peak newbie's ~ 1. Get your ticket ahead of time, it will sellout 2. 8:00p start, if you get in line to get into the show at 7:45p you will wait a long time and might miss the opener. I suggest going in before there's a long line since they check IDs at the door and give you a booz bracelet if you want to drink. 3. No smoking inside, they will pull your card. But anything goes on the outside deck. 4. In the past sometimes local cops have sat at the bottom of the mountain looking to ruin people's holiday, watch out for the heat (haven't seen them the past few times) 5. The views will blow your mind

Back to the Peak for the pre-Thanksgiving show!! Oh YEAH

Well the joint was jumping on this one more Monday night. The band delivered the goods once again. The Deal was the best I've heard in a long time. Eyes was simply divine. The drums were menacing and kept the energy up, and the Other One > Wharf Rat was virtuous. Starting to like the XL venue. Even though it was packed to the gills with moderate skills you're able to work your way to the outside area for some fresh (dank) air. With the outside area having fire pits, a bunch of chairs, and a 200 year old tree growing out of the middle, it's a nice touch. They put a projector out there which was a nice upgrade. Great night, Great band, Great crowd. Unfortunately my bender is over I'm back to the grind starting tomorrow. But 2 shows in 3 days does a body good. However I do have to patch my bones today with a little R&R

Don't forget another Frozen Logger teaser (1st verse) done during Tuning waiting for Rob B. mic to turn on. One hundred thousand tons of Pigpen dropped on to the parking lot of Holiday Valley to go along with a couple tons of rain. Place was a slop fest. In hind sight VIP would have Definitely been the way to go. Tent for the rain and bathrooms that weren't surrounded by 25 yards of quick sand mud. The band delivered 4 sure. 1st set Dew was upbeat and mind blowing. Rob B. and Lisa belted out the pigpen tunes with extra salty Blues. Lisa shined on the harmonica too. Lovelight in the 1st set was a surprise too but due to the format fit in perfectly. Rob B. had some awesome "Wait a Minute!" moments. The Dark Star-->--> end of the show was an extraordinarily out of this world magnificently wonderful spectacular medley. Venue might have to work on some logistics if they have another festival. Looked like they shuttled people in from a mile or so away. A lot of people decided to walk which made the main road packed with people walking like they were going to mecca. Luckily I arrived at the butt crack of dawn to ski the mountain so I got parking right in the lot near the festival which was a lifesaver going back to the car between bands and thunderstorms. Awesome town Ellicotville is. And this guy from PA was dumbfounded to know cannabis is legal in NY and there are dispensaries on every corner. I 🖤NY.

They should have just made this a Netflix series. Like 10 episodes. That way you could have gone through the progression of Jerry/the band. How do they play on condensing 30+ years of touring into a 2-3 hour movie. Plus if you're changing out band members that will also need 15-20mins of setup/explanation. Is Bobby gonna be in the movie with makeup on to make him look 19 again?? or do they just go with a whole cast of actors. If so, they're gonna look funny trying to play instruments and lip singing. I think this is gonna be a hack job

I caught the some of the Oakland show this AM on the GD channel. The Masterpiece/West L.A. Fadeaway was pretty hot. I think the one I heard yesterday had the NFA clap from the audiance that seemed to last 15 mins.! I was thinking to myself, that had to be one of the longest NFA crowd chants out there. I wonder if anyone knows the longest documented NFA crowd chant

Have fun with Ardmore music hall. In order to get in you need a stool sample, you finger printed, need to identify your pronoun, need proof of vaccination and a valid ID matching your vaccine card (which I've read is racist), & must where a muzzle "between bites of food and sips (or gulps) of drinks" I guess they throw you in a pit or something if they catch you with your mask down breathing air in between your gulps. I would imagine they do contract tracing there as well all for you own safety of course. Vaccinated or not vaccinated I don't feel like spending my hard earned money on businesses like that. I feel bad for the bands that play there who I'd like to support and the smaller crowds they might play in front of because of their policies. I don't think it's a sustainable business model on their part but whatever. I've been to many shows there in the past but no thanks unless they change their ways

Wow, don't know what to think of this. I would imagine it will be cool either way but really Jonah Hill??? I mean Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison was good, Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash was on point. But Jonah Hill as Jerry?? I just don't see how that works on any level. We'll see but he definitely wouldn't be my first choice https://variety.com/2021/film/news/martin-scorsese-grateful-dead-biopic-jonah-hill-1235115213/

Savage, High Energy, HIGH ENERGY, Hi enERgy, Hi EnErGy. Got to stand on the rail in front of 8 JBL 4 foot tall speakers for 4 hours while DSO just shredded the Pennsylvania night. I had a weird thought about the deer I'd be hunting in the mountains in a couple months. They had to hear the show from there resting spots up on the mountain. I'm wondering what all the wildlife is thinking up on the mountain when the band is just laying down a killer setlist. Had an awesome time. I love how the temperature slowly dropped during the entire show. The start of the show it was sunny and 85. The end of the show breezy and 65. Awesome elective set, hopefully the band will make this a yearly stop. I would vote for a monthly stop but I realize they gotta spread the love all over the country, so once a year is reasonable. Once again the best Dark Star show I've ever seen which is what I say after every show.

Got the day off. Gonna be out fishing on the lake in the AM, then a nice pregame grill out. I'm stoked gonna be a killer show!

I missed DSO had to work Thurs./Fri. I did however make it up to the Peach Festival Sunday. I was able to score a free VIP ticket from a friend. I ended up buying them Dark Star's show from the Peach as a thank you. I listened to some of it online but he said it was killer and the band was so happy to be in front of a crowd. I can attest, there were A LOT of people there on Sun. The seats were pretty filled and the Lawn was packed. It was very refreshing to see everyone having such a great time singing, dancing, and sharing the good vibes. It was my 1st time at the Peach Festival and between the camping, onsite water park, 3 stages, loads of vendors...they were setup pretty good to handle a large crowd. Set 1: Playing In The Band > Eyes Of The World > The Music Never Stopped ; Passenger ; Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues ; Scarlet Begonias > Fire On The Mountain Set 2: Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Bird Song > Saint Of Circumstance > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower > drums > space > Sugar Magnolia > Uncle John's Band > Sunshine Daydream Encore: Brokedown Palace > Playing In The Band reprise

Also was at the rain show. If I recall Rob B. keyboard was shorting out with all the water that was dumping on it. Haven't seen DSO in like a year and a half. Way too long. Thanks for the PA stop, very much looking forward to this
