So, I’m thinking Folsom Prison Blues would be a bit of a showstopper but no one who was present is commenting. Please describe.

Random thoughts and randomness in general
Greg from Chestertown replied to Rude's topic in Random Thoughts
just had a guy at the gas station ask me what my license plate (boxrain)meant. I asked him if he ever heard of the Grateful Dead, and if he ever saw them. He said yea, once., Austin, Texas, 1969. I looked it up. If it was Austin, he musta meant 2/23/70. He said they did the coolest thing. After they were done playing the show, they set up a huge set of cymbals and the guy just played the cymbals for a really long time. He said he has seen the Moody Blues three times. I thought that was cool. -
My thought exactly. Oh Well, I know what I’m not doing this summer.

That’s a good one, gotta check it out. I’m guessing a late era Race is on, second set opening reads like a first set opener, Playin’ into Eyes must be heard, I think. I’m on my way…

I thought Dark Star was following me but if they need to wander off, that’s fine. I will catch up with them when they come back around. ….love would not forsake the days that lie between ……
-
I can remember back in the day, pre taper section, this guy knew a guy who had a friend who’s brother, I think, would go to shows in a wheelchair with a blanket on his lap. The undercarriage of the wheelchair was where all the taping equipment was stashed.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Although there are some things that aren’t ideal about the Cork, I was missing it.
-
I checked their website a few days ago, nothing posted but there wasn’t much posted that far out. …. Gonna get there, I don’t know….

That show has the best yellow dog story I ever heard.

Back in the day, ticketron was at Bag and Baggage, 8th and Orange in downtown Wilmington, De. The place sold suitcases, and tickets. People would camp out for days for tickets. I’m not so sure they ever sold any suitcases.
-
They did a tune that I would call By and By, a while back at this point, as a filler at the Grand opera House in Wilmington, De. The last song of the last show of the tour. They introduced the song by saying, we’re going to try something we’ve never done before. I wonder if it’s the same song. Nice melody. I still sing it occasionally in my head when it makes it’s way to the front. Nice elective set list.

Very interesting set list. I’m digging me and my uncle sandwiched in The Other one. No second set Jerry Ballad but you got Comes a Time early in the first set. The unpredictability musta kept you on your toes, Hardpan. Brother in attendance?

I just heard from my niece/ Goddaughter that Dead and Company is playing a benefit concert May 8th at Barton Hall, Cornell university (she works there) $300 minimum to get in, $1,500 to stand in the pit. If that’s not common knowledge, it is now!

That’s been my approach since day one. I sit still and let them come to me, DSO, Grateful Dead, Furthur, etc. I catch them when they come around. I’ve managed to stay in honeymoon mode for 42 years. My last Dark Star show had about four or five tunes that I’ve never seen live before. Kinda funny, my first six Grateful Dead shows, I saw Good Lovin’ five times. It took another twenty years to catch it again. At least that’s how I remember it. Who are the Grateful Dead and why do they keep following me?

I caught the Dirty Grass Players at the Garfield Theatre in Chestertown a few years back during Downrigging weekend. Bluegrass band, their set had a few Dead tunes sprinkled throughout. A real good time.

Did you hear the one about......?
Greg from Chestertown replied to Greg from Chestertown's topic in Comedy Central
Two guys are walking down the street. They get to the corner and there’s a dog licking his balls. One guy says to the other, “man, I wish I could do that.” The other guy says, “if you go over and pet him real nice, maybe he’ll let you.” -
Maybe if he had time to to evolve it. I was thinking maybe if he got a hold of those lyrics when he was a younger man but it took a lifetime to come up with those lyrics.

Yet, at the same time, Jerry is cranking out some of his best work with Grisman in Grateful Dawg and his Jerry Band performances are some of my sweetest memories of him. …. and I say, wonderful…..

That ball was uncatchable.

I’m saying both !!!!

Last time I remember seeing Makes no Difference on a set list, it was a West coast show a few years back, acoustic, I believe. Love that tune.

I have this theory about football teams working their way through the playoffs. The Patriots had it down, where the goal isn’t just to get to the Super Bowl but to win the super Bowl. Some teams blow their wad before getting there. The Eagles always talk about getting to the Super Bowl and winning it. It dawned on me today that the Bengals/chiefs game was so hyped up, full of trash talking back and forth, etc. that the Chiefs could be spent and might not have as much left in the tank as the Eagles who haven’t even been challenged yet in the playoffs. My take.
-
49ers player who tried to throw the Eagles player six feet under was less than cool. Gonna be a good Super Bowl but I think Philly is a little better and healthier. Philly hasn’t really been challenged yet in the playoffs, I think.
