Aggressive dogs at shows?.

Last year we were at a show Outdoors that a friend of mine was putting on.

We get there and I see a couple friends and their very laid-back dog, cool!

 

I had mentioned I hope there's no aggressive dogs that come and another friend said yes earlier there was a larger dog that was aggressive with another dog.

My question is do people think it's okay to have a larger dog that's aggressive towards other dogs  off leash at a show?

The dog owner is not anybody I have ever seen at dark star shows. I think they are more local band or a dead end company heads...

I guess nobody has an opinion on this.. I am very protective of those I love. We have an 11 lb, now 14-year-old, Shih Tzu and one bite from a large dog most likely if not outright kill her eventually lead to her death. I feel very strongly about if you have an aggressive dog keep it on a leash or not at shows!

At the Seattle Showbox shows in Feb there was a guy in front of us in a chair and had a service dog with him. Big yellow lab or similar. This show was indoor and shoulder to shoulder. The dog was clearly distressed and the guy was paying no attention to the dog. Us and people around were trying to comfort him. He eventually peed a huge puddle that he was now slipping around in, still no action from the guy. A worker from the venue came and cleaned up the pee. That dog probably needed his own service dog after that experience. Not cool. Aggressive dogs need to stay home, all other dogs, outdoor shows only. My opinion.

I don’t believe that any animals should have to endure loud, noisy, crowded spaces of any sort. And especially ones where humans may not be at our best. It is not right to overstimulate them in an environment where their fight or flight instincts may kick in.

 

Kind, gentle and caring situations in spacious outdoor venues can be different. I won’t go into my opinions regarding dogs led around tour while leased by ropes.

Someday I’ll tell you all in person, what I have been through with my new neighbor and his German Shepard over the last four years. Despicable. If I didn’t defend myself, I would have been maimed. I was home. I solved the problem without him and now my half acre side lot is woodland gardens with trails winding through it and a creek but only when it rains. Upside to his scorched Earth, Chernobyl style landscaping, my woods is bathed in splintered sunlight every day for the golden hour, right before sunset. It really is nice as tits.

My friends Pitbull, Dio, always took the blame in lots when other dogs were the ones causing the trouble. Talk about prejudice and it was usually a dog named Cassidy. Dio always enjoyed walking the lots and scoring ground scraps of food. He'd get all excited as we pulled in for the preshow festivities. The worst he ever did was getting to lick your face.

I was at the Jubilee some years back and during the wheel I saw a dog circling in obvious pain and wimpering from the music. I came close to going up to the owner of the dog and telling him he should not own a dog if he was going to subject them to obvious pain. 😞

I think I remember that. Conscious cruelty to animals is sick, and thoughtless disregard should be grounds for not having one. Caring for them is one of the sacred trusts we humans can undertake.

 

We’ve all seen them in places where they should not be. That is heartbreaking.

As it relates to this topic, I have felt strongly since the dawn of time, no dogs on tour.  Period.  Also, no babies of any sort.  Even with ear plugs.  Shows are an adult environment.  YMMV.

Yea, you gotta be a loving, caring, caregiver. I work as a gardener so I am at people’s homes. There’s dogs out there that I am friends with. I’m glad to see them and they’re glad to see me. I have also been attacked three times in the last 15 years. Not bitten but had to defend myself quite intently. One dog owners cleaning lady worked at Animal control, where the owner got the dog and took it back to after my incident. I ran into her in the grocery store parking lot, interesting conversation. She said the Humane Society will let a dog bite three different people before they stop letting people adopt it and put it down. Again, YMMV

I do take my dogs to the stops but do not take them inside...I love traveling with my pup but understand other's opinions as well...Brian, this has been on your mind for a minute...love you buddy

Yes Bix, on my mind... 

Lexi has had 3 grand mal seizures and as it is we get a room close by so we can check on her, not leave her too long when we do shows. Its getting fucking expensive so show attendance has suffered. It always freaks me out when a dog,  even on leash is aggressively growling trying to reach Lexi.
