Me thinks 2/22/74 for LA tonight. Wish I was there. The band seems to rock LA winter west coast every year.
That show fills the bill with the anniversary date, and I think you're right that they haven't played it before. But I'm not sure the Mission Control bass had debuted until June... Has DSO every played the Iowa 6-16 sets?
another possible contender (per my perusal of the DSO database) would be the last retirement show, 10/20. And of course it's a beast of a show.- 1

I mean, they GOTTA do a Wall of Sound show with that bad boy...right?!?
One would think! I’m hoping for 2-23-74 but something tells me they’ll wrap up the tour with a Dark Star. Maybe Miami Jai-alai Fronton?

Yeah, this was a powerhouse performance of a powerhouse show. Plenty good vibes in the crowd as well.
I figure we'll get a '74 show tomorrow. After this pick, I tend to expect something epic!
See y'all in LA- 1

That makes sense since Phil played Big Brown during one of the Terrapin Crossroad shows where he was re-creating one show from each year and doing an interview before each show. (Those were damn cool!)
Yeah, I loved those shows. -

True true...
So what time period did Phil play Big Brown? (that's it's name, yes)
IIRC "Big Brown" was the heavily modified Guild bass that preceded the Osage Orange/Mission Control/Omega bass Skip will be playing. Phil used this bass from the WoS era through the first half of 1980 or so. -

inquiring minds need to know what is off the table for tonight...
Ya know, with this family instrument thing, the usual rules don't always apply. At the Warfield we got something like 5 repeats.
That's NOT a complaint.
I'm thinking we get a late 70s show in San Diego and a Wall-O-Sound era show at the Wiltern. That bass got some use over the years! -

So was it a case of using what you have and experimenting at Alembic? Innocent question and limited experience in musical instruments : if Jerry was looking for a country sound, wouldn’t a Telecaster served his purposes?

Surely seems like it, as Jer's aim was to emulate the "Bakersfield sound" - but he also made use of the Strat's middle pickup, and the Alembic "strat-o-blaster" preamp helped maintain consistent volume, especially when he used a wah-wah pedal.- 1

SF on Valentine's Day... too bad there aren't any classic shows from that date/town for them to re-create...

Great drums segment after a somewhat chaotic Playin' jam where Barraco's keys were silent. At one point he just threw his arms up in frustration and started up with some vibraslap percussion, since his mic was still live. The keys were restored after a good five minutes, then Eaton left the jam early, I imagine to see what the heck was going on with the equipment. Skip, Jeff and the drummers kept things lively, though. it's great to see high caliber musicians who can improvise in both senses of the word when it really counts!
Was it just me or was there no security check AT ALL? Intermission was a madhouse, nobody was giving or checking stamps. A fantastic venue and a far looser atmosphere than I'm used to in LA.- 1

The Warfield is tempting. At the very least, the wife and I will hit both SoCal shows

I’m open to surprises.
but here’s a thought: 10-20-74 would be a combination single/double drummer set. Is that something they’ve done before?
Just a thought.
