Fox Theatre, ATL, GA 5/17/77 prob one of the best I’ve heard. Heard on Spotify. This song has deep meaning for me. If it does for you have a listen or post your best. Share some love!!!

Our hipster hotel was cooler than the venue, but the music at the venue was decidedly better!! 😅

46yr old set list brought back to life in a venue not quite three times that age. The two went together famously. Cool part of downtown adjacent to Olympic park. Minglewood, high time and music never stopped were my first set highlights. Really the whole second set was a highlight. Drums into other one heart pounding. Security was a little rigid about the aisles, but there was some dance space to be found. A thousand thanks to the whole dso operation for bringing us the goods.

You’ll still find me on street corners preaching about 4/29/71 being the greatest performance the Dead ever did, which of course includes the best Hard to Handle ever performed. Tea has a rookies ear and really just doesn’t listen to enough GD to weigh in on this topic. Nice guy tho.

I saw that tour at McNichols in Denver but Stevie Ray opened for Jeff Beck. I’m pretty sure it was 89. JB mistakenly invited Stevie out on stage for a little dueling guitars session at the end of his set. Uh Ohhhhh…

giddy up early dead!!!!!!

love you bro, you’re the man!

Happy 51st anniversary of the greatest show ever played by the Grateful Dead! 4-29-71, book it Dano!! ps: also the best hard to handle ever laid down by Jerry!!
-
He’s got a raging case of integrity. Been suffering from it long as I’ve known him.
-
hey, you can just shove that ignorant comment right up your ass buddy. I’ve seen you tear up to that song before!! Ohhh, you’re just trying to push my buttons,… that’s what it is, cause no way you say something that stupid otherwise.
-
hey little one should have made it but that song could only be delivered by Jerry in his 20s, so the shelf life was prob a consideration in its sadly short life. No doubt the best of the early stuff.

This was the first of 2 nights at the Roanoke civic center. My transmission took a shit on the side of the highway on the way to these shows. We hitched on to the shows and left the car. Glad we did. Both of these shows smoked! The crazy fingers from night 2 lingers in my mind as the best I saw. Went back to the gas station I left the car at a week or so later hoping to get about $500 for the car. After some hard core negotiations I accepted the gas station owners offer of $50. 😂😂😂😂

Yes, they both look like people I wouldn’t hang out with.

I was there Bill, but don’t remember running into you,...😂 we mustuv looked a good bit different back then.
-
Brother, I’m glad you cleared up that first sentence with the second sentence. 😂😂😂😂😂

Lots of dead fades in tonight's football game. Is it FOX or Cali or what? Lots during the Fall Classic also.
-
No. Just give it a listen and you'll know why. Hell Jerry couldn't even do it anymore past his 20s. Played maybe a dozen or so times. 2-25-66 is the best recording of it I've found. Hope you're doing good and staying well my brother!!
-
Cause it's the most gut wrenching Jerry song ever. And I'm happy I turned you on to it 😅. Superb recording thru out. You nailed it bro!
-
I don't even know what the fuck that's supposed to be. You back on the PCP Greg?
-
Ok, I slept on it. After that and input from Greg (thanks for the research Greg), I've made a final decision. 4/29 is best! 🤣🤣
-
Yes, let the people speak. 8-6-71 is a contender, because even if you don't give the nod to 4-29 based on Jerry's work (which you def should), Pig and Phil are so much better in the 4-29 you have to rank it so. My personal opinion is that Jerry's guitar work in that version is the best I've ever heard. It still gives me full body chills after hundreds of listens. Specifically from about 6:00-8:00 is my case. There is a drop from the incredibly high ledge Jerry just took you up to and it's at the 7:20 point. I've not heard another version where he does it that ferocious yet so soothing. Hell if all that don't get the nod, how bout 4/29 being a full minute longer. More Jerry = mo better. I will fight for this show, but not physically or where anybody is mean and hurts somebody's feelings. Let's get a report from Greg.

Fuck that bullshit. Nothing outdoes 4/29/71 HTH. Don't mess with me Ed. I got too much invested in that show to start anew. Maybe I'll start a Facebook group. 🤔.. 🤣
