Got to meet Bobby in Spring of 1993. Richfield, OH, 3/13/93 to be exact (I only know the exact date because of the Archive). Night #1 was cancelled due to a snowstorm - wish they woulda told us before we made the treacherous drive to the venue. Oh well. We were excited because Jerry was back after a health break. He looked a bit like Kris Kristopherson - thinner, animated, vibrant (for Jerry). Was a bit gutted that we missed the Night 1 opportunity. To soften the blow, it was party-time at local hotels and motels, and let me tell you: the party started early at many places. We checked into our hotel and my travel companions wanted to sleep so I went down to the bar. When I got down there, it was decidedly empty-ish. Weird. I saddled up to the bar and thereās Bobby, nursing a miller lite, looking like heād rather be anywhere than there. No shit. Heās hunched over the bar, peeling the label off his bottle. I sat down a couple seats over and the bartender asked what I wanted, and did I have my ID. I paused for a sec, leaned over and asked Bobby, āCan I get you a beer?ā He paused, looked at me, and said, āNaw. gotta run - cheers.ā OK - So maybe I didnāt Meet / MEET him Hittin me hard 2Nite - heās been in the orbit of my life for over 40 years. Other than family and childhood friends, nobody has been with me for longer. What a trip.
