  1. Saw Stella Blues Band open for Melvin Seals and JGB over the weekend at the Cap. First time seeing SBB they usually play Garcia’s stage but they played the main room and were definitely worth getting there early to see, and of course Melvin and JK always put on a excellent show. Melvin is just so damn happy it’s awesome to see. But that Mystery train and morning dew….insanity.

  2. I saw Grateful shred last night at Brooklyn bowl. I was definitely happy with what went down. Threw some some Althea, cats down under, scarlet fire, alligator!! Excellent music and  I may even go again tonight.
That being said does anyone know why DSO doesn’t come to any NYC venues anymore. Brooklyn or Manhattan?

maybe someone in the band can fill me in. I loved two nights in Manhattan and Brooklyn bowl was great too. Can’t wait till jersey next week

    Hello fellow Starheads

Is there a searchable “last time played” function anywhere?

I was looking at the Starbase setlists and gave up looking for a couple of songs.

To Lay Me Down & Black Muddy River

I am watching 11/13/21 on YouTube and the TLMD was beautiful

I’m pretty sure I heard black muddy River  played at Hampton ballroom in July of 2017 or 2018 as the encore and followed by cats down under. Not sure if it was the first or second night tho

  5. That minglewood was down right dirty. What an unbelievable week of music from DSO. Just beautifully done. Magical. Good to see friends, and new faces..everyone who sees these shows are Amazing people. Thank you again DsO for continuing to take this music on its journey. You play it at the highest level and with such heart.  Love is real…

Melvin Seals JGB was fucking excellent. Mystery train holy smokesssss….harder they come was a perfect  Jamaican jam. I miss Jamaica.

  6. Yes There may be crickets around here but shows are still  packed and  the music is played at such a high level of quality/perfection  and with so much heart. It’s really good for the soul.  I still see smiling faces That I know and I see new ones too, and as long as we still have all this I’m a happy man. It is sad when it gets a little quite around here between tours but you Gotta find ways to keep on keepin on. Tomorow and Monday I’ll see Phil and  then go right into dso coming coming coming  arounddd

Scouring deadbase I found an interesting trivia question.

What song opened a show in 76, 83 and 93 as its only 3 openers ever and closed 1 show ever in 77??

Its always fun popping out the deadbase to see how a song placement starts then ends and how the band experimented with it in both sets until it found a possible resting spot for it in one set or another or not.

    What is it?

Omg I’m in an argument in a text thread with friends. I said Billy got big fast b/c their dead tunes went viral and deadheads flocked to him. They are trying to say he’d have gotten just as big without ever playing a dead song. No way. Playing dead is how he exploded then he played with Billy and Bobby. I went to see him at a tiny venue in 2018 b/c of the dead and many others there were the same way.

Yeaa I can def see that, he’s rocking dead tunes. I’ve heard His bluegrass is sick though. I would definitely go see him. Probably Once

  9. Rude I saw a Mayer interview he said bobby wants him to keep deadco going after the boys hang it up. that would be just as bad as a deadco tribute band lmfao. I’m gonna go see em just because, but out of the 30 deadco I’ve seen I think a handful of the SONGS and music was played up to speed.

even my girl who’s newly on the bus said to me these guys play so slow, no wonder you seen dark star so much, I like dark star better and I said I know babe I know.

Get ready for a ton of that in that Jonah hill Jerry movie. I expect nonsense like Jerry shooting up in a locked bathroom stall and 2 cops are peeing outside and Jerry drops his dope and the cops are like us someone in there and it’s a stressful moment or all the invented conversations it takes to make a docudrama. To make it current and relevant as the Grateful Dead is in the mothballs of history while Deadco is fresh and fashion forward, Bobby should be telling Jerry “come on dude. People want this music slow. No one wants that fast style. We need to partner with Izod to have a Grateful Dead line of pastel polos and offer a $5k cashmere SYF blanket that will be a hit with our core fans”.

damn Rude how sad but true this is. Grateful Dead in the mothballs of history, Well not for us around here and plenty more others but that whole shit you said hurt to read. I have people that know that I’ve been into  the dead for years all of a sudden asking me stupid questions About dead and co and now they assume I’m a John Mayer fan hahaha which makes me laugh. It is what it is man, at least the music is still going, like I’ve said before its not the dead as far as how we like to hear but it is still bobby Billy and Mickey up there. Mostly nostalgic

It has it moments of great music and moments of slowness, I don’t wanna call it bad. It’s badly paced. I said in a last post I probably won’t go this weekend to citi field but it’s my bday, it’s 30 mins away, the suns gonna be out and why the fuck not…I’m gonna end up going to at least one if not both nights.

the setlists aren’t stale. The way they play it is. They go pretty deep in the catalog. They just did an eleven>Stephen I think to open a show

Exactly Rude. Set lists are actually good on paper when I look at them. It’s how they play it.

  13. Dead and co is getting worse from some of the videos I’ve seen this year.  I’ve gone to a couple shows every year and  I think I’m throwing in the towel. And there’s a show on my bday at citi field. I love Bobby and how he’s carried the torch. Went to alot of furthur and some rat dog, just saw wolf bros at radio city but for some reason these dead and co shows don’t get there. I don’t wanna feel like I’m not enjoying live dead music, can’t get into it or can’t dance. And that’s what it’s come to. The ticket prices are robbery and Besides the pace, Mayers voice is to bluesy/pop for this shit. I heard him do sugaree this past week and it was tough. The dude can def play the guitar parts, there’s no doubt about that.  Last year at Hershey park he took Tennessee Jed on that end of the song jam to some crazy place and I loved it. He’s had some moments of nailing the guitar parts.  I think it’s been 7 years now of overpaid tickets for decent ( at best) live dead , it’s not worth it.
this band is cool for new super young heads as well as  old heads who still wanna see the boys on stage, the lots cans be a lot of  fun too. This is just my opinion because these shows are all packed so people are diggin them. For people who love dso they know that’s where it’s at. But just musically dead and co is nowhere near DSO, at all.
Looking forward to Saturday in jersey next week in Hampton beach and then next year Jamaica here i come
