  1. They did a tune that I would call By and By, a while back at this point, as a filler at the Grand opera House in Wilmington, De. The last song of the last show of the tour. They introduced the song by saying, we’re going to try something we’ve never done before. I wonder if it’s the same song. Nice melody. I still sing it occasionally in my head when it makes it’s way to the front. Nice elective set list.

  2. I would highly recommend (no pun intended) not letting your child see you get high, get high with him, or get your pot from, or through him. I did all of the above and lost the parent/child authority, never got it back. Controlled burn might seem cool at first, long story,  but my only son literally does not speak to me. Less than cool. Only introduce him to the music. If he wants, needs, or desires the peripheral aspects that go along with the music, let him find that on his own.

  3. I took my son to see DSO at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, De. When he was twelve. He’s a natural born drummer and had been taking lessons. He fit right in. We caught another show together ten years later at the Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach. He went up front while I stayed back and danced for that one. When we met up after the show he was covered in sweat. Don’t you see?, he had a real good time.

  4. That’s been my approach since day one. I sit still and let them come to me,  DSO, Grateful Dead, Furthur, etc. I catch them when they come around. I’ve managed to stay in honeymoon mode for 42 years. My last Dark Star show had about four or five tunes  that I’ve never seen live before. Kinda funny, my first six Grateful Dead shows, I saw Good Lovin’ five times. It took another twenty years to catch it again. At least that’s how I remember it. Who are the Grateful Dead and why do they keep following me?

  5. I started in 1980. I was lectured to about everything Grateful Dead by my roommate at college who was connected to some serious tourheads. The band was excited about a fresh start with Brent. The word on the street was that they had big plans and were excited. BTW, word of mouth was how the news was spread back then.  It really was a subculture. I feel that they were going to take the late seventies live show success to the next level.  I say that in retrospect. I also think that this era is where Jerry had evolved his playing and singing furthest before the drugs started showing up in the quality of his performances. Yea, the early eighties are the good old days for me. If I am not mistaken, I think 11/30/80 helps me make my point.

  6. Makes you wonder about the band not knowing what song they’re playing next yet we can have conversations like this. The predictability to their unpredictableness. Even random’s last name is order. I love it. Set list conversations are my favorite.

  7. You’re both right. 75-77,83-85, 89-95. I found a site called grateful seconds. Com that lists the times played for help on the way. Kinda covers help/slip/Frank. Looks like I might get a passing grade without even owning the textbook. Thumbs up !

  8. I have this theory about football teams working their way through the playoffs. The Patriots had it down, where the goal isn’t just to get to the Super Bowl but to win the super Bowl. Some teams blow their wad before getting there. The Eagles always talk about getting to the Super Bowl and winning it. It dawned on me today that the Bengals/chiefs game was so hyped up, full of trash talking back and forth, etc. that the Chiefs could be spent and might not have as much left in the tank as the Eagles who haven’t even been challenged yet in the playoffs. My take.

  9. 49ers player who tried to throw the Eagles player six feet under was less than cool. Gonna be a good Super Bowl but I think Philly is a little better and healthier. Philly hasn’t really been challenged yet in the playoffs, I think.

  10. If Philly can rattle Purdy’s cage, it’ll be more than four, I think. Honestly, all four teams have a pretty good chance. Don’t forget what kC’s backup QB did while Mahomes was getting his ankle checked out last week. 98 yard touchdown drive that ate up some clock. I always enjoy this week’s games more than the Super Bowl.
