One of the greatest deadheads ever, Jim Irsay, died today. He shared his love of the dead by buying Jerry’s tiger guitar and keeping it locked up in his vault that included 100’s of thousands of percocets and various booze. He shared the view of the vault with hedge fund guys and other bankers.  He was a regular guy who’d drive himself while drunk not wanting to be like normal billionaires who have Chauffeurs drive them when drunk. He’s a one of a kind that will be missed by tens of people.

I must say that it is absolutely stunningly beautiful in Crete (island of Greece) this time of year. We like it so much we probably will return with kids and stay at resort next door. Our resort is adults only but same ownership has resort next door with water park that allows kids.

Unbelievably breathtaking here in South Finneytown, just on the outskirts of the Queen City ~ Cincinnati, Ohio (a fairly small state in the United States of America). The skies are as blue as the Pacific between California and Hawaii, really something to experience with eyes wide open and walking freely on a neighborhood trail. I think I'll play my Seagull acoustic when I get back to the ranch and conjure up the muse

Absolute silence while I did a little primp and fluff gardening at my insurance agents house a stones throw from the tallest point on all of Delmarva today. Perfect weather. Beautiful home perched above a spring fed pond. Left early to take my ‘57 Chevy pick up down to a little car show they have in town once a month. Pretty cool. Women and children were eating ice cream from little cups. Beautiful summer evening.

After meditating on my porch this morning with 60° temperatures and low humidity in the beautiful Garden State I can truly say it is a great day to be alive! Gotta Love when you have 86° days with low humidity, beautiful blue sky's and don't feel warm in the Sun. It is an unbelievable feeling of freedom when I contemplate on my life, all my failures and triumphs, mistaken judgments and faults, detriments and benefits to society and still I know that everything I have experienced in life has led up to this day and a feeling of total acceptance of who I am and the life I have and still live.

Not even the $52 exceeding parking limit ticket I got last night after taking Nicole out for birthday dinner bothers me. (She had the Halibut, I had the coconut crusted grouper.) After putting money in the parking meter I realize it was not working and I put a sign on my window saying parking meter is broken. They put the ticket right next to it. LOL I got to say my first thought was to put gorilla glue in the money slots and credit card slots in multiple different parking meters throughout town. It's funny how I can get indignant about a minor Injustice after having spent many years of my life spreading Injustice while caught in the grips chasing just one more...

Like yesterday today will be 86 degrees,Blue Skies and low humidity. High tide is at 6:45 a.m.. Nicole is off work and we are going down to the beach and do a little fishing and a little meditating. We will bring our 14 year old Shih Tzu who loves the beach then go to this little restaurant in a quaint town that I lived in many years ago called Ocean Grove. They have the best fresh Cod I have ever eaten.

Everyday leads up to this day and it's just like any other day that's Ever been.

It is a great day to be alive!

Brian, beautiful day and beautiful meditation.

And I’m glad you didn’t get medieval on the parking meters. Remember what got Cool Hand Luke locked up in the first place.

I love that I got you guys talking even if I feel it’s somewhat tongue in cheek and mocking me. Love you guys. So glad to hear you can enjoy whatever space you’re in in the moment. Please let Nicole know Whitney and Rick wish her a happy birthday.

No cutting the heads off parking meters for me Chuck 😀 I was thinking about fighting the parking ticket but I knew once I called and got a court date I would have spent at least an hour every day replaying in my head what I would say in court calling New Brunswick Parking Enforcement fascist Etc... I would be losing at least one hour of peace everyday until the court date 2 to 3 weeks away. I will just pay the ticket, you can't put a price on peace!

My mornings always start with a

visit to Gratefulsets.net, a bad ass

digitial DeadBase, created by a

member on this forum.

The other day I wondered how many

times Dark Star and Eyes of the World

were played at the same show.

Had my answer in moments and full

lists from all those shows.

To the creator of this search engine,

well done kind sir.

Well, what did you find?

I couldn't figure out how to do a search of songs played at the same show. I'm fairly sure it happened at Brendan Byrne fall '89 just off my visual memory of the cassette case cover my friend drew up when he made my copy

Remiss of me not to share research.

Dark Star / Eyes of the World played

at the same show 19 times.

First 73/02/15 Dane County

Last 91/09/26 Boston Garden

15 of the 19 occurred 1973.

Shocker there.

The four outside of 1973?

90/03/29 Nassau (Branford)

90/10/20 Berlin (IWT)

90/12/31 Oakland (Branford)

91/09/26 Boston (gooey second set)

1. Top Bar of website:  Search

2 .Left Panel Blue Bar Search Criteria

3. Choose Year, Venue, Songs

4. Let the adventure begin.

Not to be bothersome or intrusive, but did you look through all 381 EOTW shows to see how many had DS with them? Not that there's anything wrong with that, just seeing if I'm missing an element of the website.

In the Blue Search Criteria box on the

left side of the search page.

Look for this:

Song:

Add one or more songs to include or exclude

Enter one song it will appear underneath with

a drop down menu for each song. Default is

played.  Once all songs entered hit search.

You can also use other criteria.  Just for fun

How many Dark Stars in Ohio.  Enter OH for

location/Dark Star for song.  Search. 7 shows.

Really fun activity. Again amazing website.

You can add more than one song to your search. Check the "In this order" box and whittle the 19 down to 9.

Thank you, I got it now. The visuals helped. I was really struggling and now it's opened many doors. Incredible work that has  impressive depth with a magnitude of sources. Thanks to Bill for shepherding to this diamond.

78/05/11  Springfield

Some heavy hitters right there - especially 11/11. Seem to never tire of that one despite it being in perpetual rotation

What is it about Tennessee Jed?  Seems

frequently I am finding it the 'best song'

of a first set so far.  Is it the placement in

the set?, when members are warmed up

and ready to go, the sound dialed in?

Personal favorite of Jerry?

I’m catching 11/26/71 today. Quite the funkadelic Tennessee Jed in that first set. That song has done a lot of evolving since that version. Fifth slot, Bobby and Jerry each had sung two songs, Time to rock. I always sing along with that song at the top of my lungs. I remember my roommate at college turning me on to that song for the first time and pointing at the album on the turntable when Jerry broke into the lyrics, “well, he blacked my eye and he kicked my dog. My dog he turned to me and he said, …” he made sure I caught that. Why would you not have talking dogs in the Grateful Dead universe? We have surfing eyeballs.

Sure wishing I could send off an envelope with a properly prepared 3x5 index card and a Money Order for a string of $12-15.00 tickets allowing access to the many terrific cities and venues in this great country of ours. Oh, also gas under a dollar meaning it was only time and distance that needed to be wrangled with. Cincinnati had Grateful Dead night at our ECHL hockey team's game Friday night and had a nice moment of silence for Bob Weir. Ran into friends throughout the night from the Hyryder camp. I dodge  the better than dark star argument with "I appreciate them both when able to get to shows." and pointing out that they are now mainly an East/West Coast band nowadays. See ya in Newport (or maybe even Minneapolis to start off a week of "Festival")

Most I paid to see Jerry was the final NYE ticket 12/31/91 - I think around $45. Now DSO costs more than that... 3x5 index cards and money orders indeed. Thanks for the memory!

You know John. The cost of just about everything is more expensive. Definitely paid more than that for Phil and friends Furthur Ratdog. I’m sure JRAD gets more than that some places. It’s the Stones and Clapton that have really set me back. Wonder what McCartney gets.

Milk Gas Real Estate Cocaine it’s all gone up. I’m sure you’ve heard about inflation. Do you know what is cool though. My money to spend has an increased much more. It has definitely outpaced inflation. I used to sleep in the car to hit shows. When drinks cost more than 5/6 dollars it was a hard pass. Those drinks at the Warfield are real pricey. I’m glad I can afford them.

I can’t say for sure but I’ve heard rumors of your sound system your taste for fine wine and bourbons. I feel like your ability to spend has outpaced inflation too.

I know Dark Star delivers a quality product that I never feel like the cost of admission is a rip off or not worth it. But I am grateful and blessed I can afford to go. Stay in nice hotels. Eat nice meals. Party favors. Life is beautiful.
I’m enjoying this ride.

I know I didn’t school you on nothing just saying. I think people that where like I saw DSO at Martyrs for 6 dollars and refuse to see them now cause of the price. Just really aren’t that into the music.
