Wow wow wow. what an amazing 2 weeks!!! im still on cloud 9!! somehow the post tour blues hasnt hit me that hard... i guess im still feeling the vibes of my fortnight of bliss! i gotta say, this Oklahoma heat SUCKS!! i went from high 70s/low 90s straight into 100 degree heat (it was 92 degrees in the shade last night at sunset!!) :( :( okc/dallas have had the highest temps in the nation lately.. on the other hand, its nice to be back where the economic climate suites my wallet!! gas was $2.79 on the east coast, its $1.99 here in Oklahoma!!

well 2 weeks on the road was quite the sensory overload.. there's no way in hell i could even begin to scratch the surface on all of the crazy good times we had. so i'll try to at least express my extreme joy experienced and the sincere gratitude i have for the band, crew, and starhead family (with a few tour/show highlights). i did gratefulfest, fredericksburg, dewey beach, atlantic city, and governor's island (7 shows, 2 weeks on the road). while i've seen 6 show runs a few times before, this was the longest time i've ever spent on dso tour (or any other tour for that matter). in the past i wondered if i'd get burnt out if i followed dso for longer than a week... NOPE!! even after 2 weeks, i didnt want to go home!! i also realized that NO other band gets me dancing like dso does (a few other bands can get me groovin, but nothing fills my dancing soul like DSO!!!)...

Gfest:

I love NLQP!! what a beautiful park.. so glad i got to go one more time.. i had such a ball at the fest.. was there for a whole 7 days.. man i love that place! although it was unsettling/weird to see officers in uniform patrolling the park, i was so incredibly pleased with the tolerant attitude of the police.. peaceful smokers were not bothered whatsoever. glad to hear no one was hurt or arrested all weekend! the music was amazing! all of the dso shows were great! all 3 shows had "that magic".. each night offered some of the best versions of certain songs i had ever heard. also got several of my favorite "rarer" songs! and the sound was the best sound i have ever heard at the ledges.. dso brought the speakers for the fest.. POWERFUL!! i had so much fun at the ledges, wish i was still there! it was so great to hang with all of the starheads all week! and a special thanks is due to camp kitchen and the RV peeps who fed me all week! you guys rock! and camp kitchen was especially awesome.. the feasts were beyond grandiose..on the 4th of july we had: 40lbs of Dr. Barry's BEST FUCKING RIBS EVER, 40 ears of corn, filet minions with a bernaise sauce, salmon, pasta salad, cobb salad, cucumber salad, veggie lo mien, and lots more im sure im forgetting.. thanks again to all the nlqp cooks!!

Fredericksburg, VA:

this venue was freaking HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! Its this giant outdoor venue.. its the largest venue i've ever seen dso play (as a stand alone show that is- i was not counting festies). I was told it had a capacity of 5k, but this place could fit 7-10 thou easily.. but it was very family oriented, so 5k would leave plenty of elbow room and would still be conducive to the large amount of lawn chairs and blankets that covered the ground throughout the venue. that being said, there were 1-2 thousand people there, so there was SO MUCH ROOM!!! up front there were people around you, but you still had plenty of space.. but beyond the front there was virtually infinite room. great show. great venue. great sound!! dancing up front with the starheads was amazing as always!

Dewey Beach, DE:

the worst venue of the tour. that place kinda sucks. really seedy. but it wasn't that bad, there were some perks (and no, im not just referring to the girl in the black dress, lol!! what can i say? i just have this power, and i have no control over it.. (i believe the latvian orthodox church calls it "kavorka") ) but seriously, staff/security was cool. free water from bartenders. but the biggest perk was the show. dso fucking rocked that shit hole!!! AMAZING show. sound was even decent as long as you were in the middle. i was so happy to get a 90s show. loved the victim and queen jane (both were SIIIIICK). but the random treats of the night were ramble on and deal.. seriously maybe the best versions ive ever heard anywere on both of those... great night with great friends! was so glad to get to spend the evening with kira! thanks for dinner and the drinks kira! was also ecstatic to see jersey steve! glad he's back in action. great finally meeting emily and mike (who, despite his constant posting, is actually a pretty cool guy :P ).

Atlantic City, NJ:

JERSEY SUCKS!!!! sorry, couldnt even start my review before that one slipped out. lol, i freakin love the jersey starheads.. seriously you all are the coolest heads on the planet!! and rural jersey is beautiful... so its not all bad :P the show was really strong. sound was absolutely superb. a little too loud on the front row even!! this venue rocked! staff was great/cool. only thing that sucked was the concession line (thanks for the water emily!!) after show was a blast with the usual suspects... loved getting drunk and stumbling around the casino.. free beer schemes, late night sausage, watching the nj youth party crowd, etc, etc.. crazy good times!

Governor's Island, NY:

two words: WORTH IT!!! granted we only got an hour of dso, and it poured... but it was so much fun!! the 1/2 show was REALLY strong.. danced really hard.. tons of fun!! loved dancing with the manhattan skyline next to us.. truly beautiful and surreal... liked this venue a million times better than the nokia.. less drunks, and plenty of elbow room!! and not to sound like a certain someone, but i must mention the cops.. there were a good 20 nyc uniformed police there (most cops ive ever seen at a dso show, maybe even any non-festie show).. and they were totally cool!!! they straight up let people smoke herb. 100% tolerance for peaceful smokers. keller sang a song about a joint, which included lyrics about a cop tolerating it. the cops got quite the kick out of the song- laughing their asses off.. the cops seemed to enjoy the concert, i caught the occasional head bob out of most of them..saw the head cop singing along to eyes of the world.. someone said they talked to the headcop and he said 'these are good peaceful people. we're just here for their safety.' the evening came to a really bizzare end, though.. "ship of fools" for sure..

there's no way in this world i could ever begin to express my shear gratitude for everything this family has given me.. and the band and crew.. i tip my hat to you all!! these are the best guys and gals on the road.. they are truly in it for the music.. everyone was so nice.. dso has one of the best crews in the world.. every single one of them is a class act.. loved seeing nicky rocking out to the music from the side stage each night.. thanks to all the starheads for everything.. i couldnt have done it without yall.. but most importantly thanks for being true friends.. i love you guys. and a special thanks is due to my wheelman prescott- you are the man!! thanks for everything bro!!.. glad i was able to fufill the role of supreme navigator. "I LOVE YOU BUDDYYYYY!!" B) all in all it was a wonderful trip.. its been said before, but ill say it again: DSO- Thank you for a real good time!!!

jfolks = great person all around!

Loved hanging with you at NLQP, 2 years in a row. Big time fun. You are a class act, a mellow dude and a very knowledgeable Deadhead way beyond your years...

And thanks for the rave about the ribs, glad you liked them!

Jordan- It was nice to meet you @ AC & Gov. Isle shows. My daughter Morgan & I had a great time dancing up front with you ,Gary/Connie,Steve/Chrissy & so many others!

Thanks for the re-cap of alot of shows I missed(working sucks!)

I agree that NJ sucks, disagree about the Bottle & Cork opinion (maybe because I spent my whole life @ the shore)!

Dancin @ the shore rocks!

DSO seems to blow the roof off the place whenever there!

The Gov. Isle remark about "Ship of Fools" was so fitting-Who'd think to dropping concert goer's off @ a different place than they got onto ferry's @ would be good -except fools? Leave it to the authorities to screw things up!....But in the end it was All worth it (Great night of music, for sure!)

See ya' next time DSO swings to the east coast or I head west,

Rob
