  1. I’m open to surprises. but here’s a thought: 10-20-74 would be a combination single/double drummer set. Is that something they’ve done before? Just a thought.
  2. another great one! The 18th,19th and 20th are all in play tonight - and all of em are winners!
  3. That show fills the bill with the anniversary date, and I think you're right that they haven't played it before. But I'm not sure the Mission Control bass had debuted until June... Has DSO every played the Iowa 6-16 sets? another possible contender (per my perusal of the DSO database) would be the last retirement show, 10/20. And of course it's a beast of a show.
  4. One would think! I’m hoping for 2-23-74 but something tells me they’ll wrap up the tour with a Dark Star. Maybe Miami Jai-alai Fronton?
  5. Yeah, this was a powerhouse performance of a powerhouse show. Plenty good vibes in the crowd as well. I figure we'll get a '74 show tomorrow. After this pick, I tend to expect something epic! See y'all in LA
  6. IIRC "Big Brown" was the heavily modified Guild bass that preceded the Osage Orange/Mission Control/Omega bass Skip will be playing. Phil used this bass from the WoS era through the first half of 1980 or so.
  7. Ya know, with this family instrument thing, the usual rules don't always apply. At the Warfield we got something like 5 repeats. That's NOT a complaint. I'm thinking we get a late 70s show in San Diego and a Wall-O-Sound era show at the Wiltern. That bass got some use over the years!
  8. Surely seems like it, as Jer's aim was to emulate the "Bakersfield sound" - but he also made use of the Strat's middle pickup, and the Alembic "strat-o-blaster" preamp helped maintain consistent volume, especially when he used a wah-wah pedal.
  9. hot damn that was a live one last night. Can’t wait to hear Jeff play the Alligator strat tonight
  10. SF on Valentine's Day... too bad there aren't any classic shows from that date/town for them to re-create...
  11. Great drums segment after a somewhat chaotic Playin' jam where Barraco's keys were silent. At one point he just threw his arms up in frustration and started up with some vibraslap percussion, since his mic was still live. The keys were restored after a good five minutes, then Eaton left the jam early, I imagine to see what the heck was going on with the equipment. Skip, Jeff and the drummers kept things lively, though. it's great to see high caliber musicians who can improvise in both senses of the word when it really counts! Was it just me or was there no security check AT ALL? Intermission was a madhouse, nobody was giving or checking stamps. A fantastic venue and a far looser atmosphere than I'm used to in LA.
  12. Ahh you got it. No Jack Straw in the Good Lovin’ last night though
  13. 77/78 style but I can't for the life of me find a GD setlist that quite matches this one. First set was extra mellow, second set soaring jams including a hot Scarlet>Fire and a REALLY exploratory Other One. See yas in LA!
  14. The Warfield is tempting. At the very least, the wife and I will hit both SoCal shows
