  1. Yeah, it almost felt like the Celtics mailed it in after they started to get down in the third, as if they'd already accomplished the split and were ready to get home. It's common for the road team to do after a win, but in the last 2 series, the Celtics kept it interesting by fighting to the end, even in a loss. Not so tonight.
  2. Who are you pulling for and/or who do you expect to win? I'm torn. I've had a fondness for the Warriors since living in the Bay area in the 90's, although I've been a hard core Griz fan since they moved to Memphis. Curry is undeniably a generational talent, and it's a rush to watch him "flame-on" and play out of his head. The team is likable for the most part, and Steve Kerr has more cajones than 99% of our "leaders". On the other hand, the Celtics have that "blue-collar" tough-it-out vibe that reminds me of the teams with Bill Walton as the 6th man (shout out to Grateful Red!) I'm always excited to see young hungry teams and a changing of the guard. In fact, this series feels a bit like one of the mid 80's Lakers/Celtics match ups when I used to switch sides from game to game, or even mid-game, to pull for the underdog to even things up. It used to infuriate my buddies that I could be a "traitor' and hate the Celtics/love the Lakers or vice versa at the drop of a hat. I guess I'll probably be rooting for the Celtics, but I expect the Warriors to pull it out in a slugfest Game 7. Thoughts?
  3. Fair point, but for the dozen or so aristocrats on the front row center balcony with unobstructed view, extra space to dance and the sweetest sound mix, it's a little slice of heaven. 😇 I've got to admit that I've spent most of my time dancing back and forth in that semicircle around the back of the balcony. i don't mess the floor. Balcony be better!
  4. I thought The Caverns Above Ground shows last year had a bit of a magical vibe going, and I'd like to see a show there without the pods restrictions. Plus it was about a month earlier which is the sweet spot for springtime weather in TN. There's also the Bonnaroo farm facilities a mere 25 miles away in Manchester... Got to pull for keeping a few shows in Tennessee somehow! Ryman anyone???
  5. Likewise. I literally wore out at least 3 copies of that cassette, back in the old Maxell XLII 90 days. Funny story, longwinded but true, and related to this show: In 1983, I was a sophomore in college and punched my ticket on the bus in Hampton 4/9/83. Although I had been into the Dead's music since high school when I bought the Live Dead album, it took a bigger commitment to make the 12-15 hour drive from TN to the closest shows in Virginia and beyond. I did the Summer 83 east coast run, and in September, I felt like I hit the mail order lottery when I got a ticket for the NYE shows at the SF Civic. Following the NYE 81 Dark Star breakout and the NYE 82 Lovelight, Hard to Handle, Midnight Hour, etc, I arrogantly predicted a St Stephen breakout at New Years 83. I also started dating this woman, who liked to describe herself at the time as "an innocent girl in a pastel sweater with a sorority pin". She couldn't have identified the Dead in a police lineup, but she did like to make t-shirts! At my request, she hand-painted a black t-shirt with the logo: "St Stephen with a..." across the top, the iconic skeletal hand holding a rose in the center, and "New Year's '83" across the bottom. It was a beautiful shirt. For better or worse, i also talked her into riding with me and two buddies to her first shows at Richmond and Greensboro. She thought we were crazy for driving all night to see a band she'd never heard of, but she reluctantly agreed to go, only after I promised to have her back for her Monday morning classes following the Sunday show 10/9/83 (she was a much more serious student than I was). We had a great trip to two great shows and as a proud boyfriend, I donned her t-shirt for the first (and only) time at the Greensboro show. Hours before the show, they had opened the concourse to allow Heads to go in and out to use the facilities, though the interior doors were locked. Another friend of ours came up to us in the parking lot, put his finger on the rose across my chest and said "you know, they're sound checking that RIGHT NOW!." Since he was known to be a bit of a joker, I thought he was bullshitting us because we were so freaking high, and blew it off. After the show, I had my 'lady with a fan' moment, when joker friend told me he had an extra ticket to the next show at MSG 10/11/83 which was mine for the asking, provided I would drive him to NYC. Of course, that would mean breaking my promise and abandoning this cute girl, who was really high for the first time but wanted no part of missing a week's worth of classes. So my dilemma was: go on to the next show and never see her again or keep my word? Fast forward almost 40 years and 3 amazing kids later, we're still together, and she saw over 100 shows after we moved out to the Bay Area. Two of the kids were even with us at the DSO Cavern shows. BUT, I never saw St Stephen with Jerry. I had to wait until the Terrapin Station Reunion in Alpine 2002. (the first and only 'Goodnight Irene' on 12/31/83 was at least a consolation) I wouldn't dare change a thing, but every time I hear that 10/11/83 show, I can't help but wonder how drastically different my path would look if I'd been at MSG the first time around.
  6. 'Forever Young' - Dylan. I saw them play it at the Bill Graham tribute 11/3/91 with Neil doing vocals, but always thought it could have been better, like a 'Heaven's Door', with Jerry at full strength and in full voice mid 80's era. 'Little Wing' - Hendrix. "She's walking through the clouds..." 'nuff said. 'Sunshine of Your Love' - Cream. Imagine the Phil bombs... 'Can't Find My Way Home' - Blind Faith. "I'm wasted and I can't find my way home", which would dovetail nicely with: 'On the Way Home' - Buffalo Springfield. "In a strange game I saw myself as you knew me When the change came And you had a chance to see through me Though the other side is just the same You can tell my dream is real Because I love you can you see me now" My top choice, both musically and lyrically, would be 'Deeper Well' - Emmylou Harris' cover of a song written by my dear friend and neighbor, the late great David Olney (RIP, Dave) Great tune for Bobby, bubbling up from a Playing' Jam or out of Space like 'Other One'
  7. Well, the final tally was 3 of 6. My wife was negative, and I tested positive, although I'm fortunately symptom free. It appears that "the phlegm from the stage has now spread to the floor..." 😷 (sorry, couldn't resist)
  8. Public Service Announcement for Cavern attendees: Two of our group of six tested positive for Covid this morning. Our son and daughter-in-law are negative. The wife and I have PCR tests pending although we have zero symptoms. We were all mostly dancing directly in front of Jeff, one row behind the VIP barricade. I don’t remember making out or swapping spit with any of you clowns, but it was a wild night! So??? We are all fine, just thought I’d throw this out to anyone in the vicinity who might need to know.

Thanks John A. I meant to look that up. My guess was never as well.
  10. I didn't see the Anthem show, but I was lucky enough to catch the original Fall tour in 1985. I've never been able to decide between 11/1 and 11/2/85, but as a matching PAIR, these are my two favorite shows I personally attended.

"Underground" trivia: Did anyone notice on Friday night? Bobby McGee: “from the coal mines of Kentucky” Brown Eyed Women: “1930 when the wall caved in” AND “snowed so hard that the roof caved in” BIODTL: “down in Joe Brown’s coal mine” Peggy-O: "he's buried in the Louisiana country-o" Jack Straw: " dug for him a shallow grave" Greatest Story: “when the wall’s caved in” Uncle John’s: “I live in a silver mine, and I call it beggar's tomb" That only omits: Friend: “in a cave up in the hills” Cumberland: “got to get down to the Cumberland mine”, etc. Mississippi 1/2 Step: “seal that silver mine” Black Peter: "tomorrow may be cool beneath the ground" And who could forget? What’s become of the baby? “Lighting the polished ice caverns of Khan” Can y'all come up with any other "subterranean" lyrics?
