Show of the tour. Blissful music and beautiful friends to share it with. So great to have santa cruz in the house. Love the venue and that cushy carpet.

.............best show ever.............. there is just no way any experience in my entire life could have prepared me for this. I have seen people play music. I have seen some pretty epic shows and VERY epic musical moments in my meager time going but to see people take the stage and then TAKE THE STAGE is just something you (or I anyways) only hear about and see in the eyes of your (my) friends that saw Jerry. I mean..... did this night REALLY happen or am I imagining it? The videos prove it, though, so I won't try to deny any longer. let me try to explain a little what was so magical....

we got there really early to make dinner reservations in this BEAUTIFUL venue. scheduled for six but the soundcheck was starting so we danced in the doorway outside to run for the roses and the race is on (THANK YOU cause these keep showing up in what I have been listening to the last 2 weeks before arcata!). played mando in the car in the parking lot and that was relaxing and nice.

dinner of fish and lasagna and then a quick grab of the unicorn hat and up to the front to wait for showtime. with so little front row space it looked like we better kick it there. don't usually go for the center, but it was fit to be a perfect night already so we hunkered down. cool dudes started showing up beside us, taking their cue, and we had some great chat sessions going when the waitress walked up and told us her customers thought we were die hard fans and wanted to buy us drinks and we thought at first she was gonna ask us to move cause we were being impolite while people were eating or something so we laughed REALLY hard and got our drinks and toasted to the kindness of strangers.

everyone in at once and SHOWTIME. mango and the dude beside him called jack straw to open and told me to write it and due to his recent successes I put faith in but the cold rain and snow is what he'd been asking the universe for and i had told him that night in s cruz when we thought we were parting for a moment to call me when they played it and to be there together as partners to hear it sent us both into a head space WE HAVE NOT SINCE LEFT and prolly never will. it was cold and no one wanted to be treated this way but the fatal tune was going to get us this time. mexicali swept me right off my feet and though there was little dancing room there was also infinite space to sweat and throw our arms and knees without anything we could stand to lose though the devil surely took it all away. i started questioning my sanity and then they really washed my brain down that big river and sitting here until I die will be my new theme after a night like this when even big river is just RIDICULOUS and JEFF IS PLAYING GAMES WITH MY BRAIN that I just don't find to be fair! he just can't be ripping my insides out and making them dance around me while my bones get all twisted from the upside down undoing. oh but it is so gooooood! wow!

ok so this TLEO we just got DOWN but refused to acknowledge each other cause at this point the song is just stalking us and we are seeing it, lord, so true, but acknowledging it isn't even necessary anymore so we just dance even harder with love springing from every pore. the looks like rain was so perfectly splattered across the floor that my body was a giant teardrop and when our friend from the beginning of the show told the really gross drunk lady dancing dirty to a beautiful love song to get outta town and she obeyed I remembered the true majesty of looks like rain. it always melts the confrontations away. my heart soared along jeff's strings and got lost in his fingers and I began to have trouble understanding exactly where I was because my eye was drifint off into a storm that has always been inevitable. don't wanna tie you down they say but this band has tied my heart in quite the little knot :)

oh loser. so miserable so despicable so lost and unbound but desperate for just a moment of peace and a dream of love along the wind. in the key of desperation the band took us to abeliene and threatened to just leave us there but thank god we were saw the firefly and they allowed a passenger so we could make it through the upside out to the inside down and this is certainly no false alarm, something is happening here and no one can control it and I'm pretty sure his name is Jeff Matson. I am pretty sure this band has opened up a musical cord through time and space to a universal moment of morphic resonance with the almighty mother of the first musical note.

and we are still going the first set still isn't over and gone are the days though we are all still here ploughing and loving. el paso brought us to the cantina and the music whirled through the room and bounced around inside our skin that just didn't seem like an adequate vessel for this caliber of musical precision so i nearly weep for felina's lost love and THEN william-o is lost as well and I know at this point that this is the best show I have ever seen.

THEN the music never stopped and it really just never seemed to stop and when they finally released us everyone was REALLY weird and we just sat cause the chaos was all around though we felt like giant light batteries all full of every perfect harmonious sound in the universe.

oh good lovin oh yes just perfect to start us back in... really silly dancing by everyone trying to find ourselves and our faces again. the ship set sail and the foolish never seem to learn despite the 30 years and we just don't lend our hands anymore.

okay, I didn't even BOTHER to strap my hat strap in to keep my face on because there was NO WAY it was going to help, my whole soul was in jeff's fingers and my head was lost on the keyboard and each drumbeat was making my feet ache and Kevin was relentless in shaking my chest open and then eaton delivers this prophet that just left me lost on a burning shore with near fear in my heart for that shaft of light though as we blinked ourselves from the near nightmarish dream of squandering into waking as eyes of the world destroyed my senses though my fingers still found their way to make setlist from the familiar feelings and needs of the whole place driving it into a playin that I will NEVER EVER FORGET EVER with that wheel so sweet that I always can feel trying just a little bit harder right back to playin like we always do and johnny is good indeed when jeff is leading this band across the lands of each fans innermost fears to a world where our blues are sung away because we are all going to be together when we make it to the promised land.

one song after another I watched as each band member challenged the rest to take every one of us to a new musical scoundscape that we would never have to leave because those vibrations have nowhere to go but deeper and deeper until you can't help but know that we are all found already and that this music is worth keeping in this form forever for us each to do our part and build into moments like these that keep us all shaking our hands.
