Last night's show was just what the doctor ordered. The band came out ready to jam right from Jump street. The Bucket ripped and Jeff Mattson really let loose during the jam at the end, adding layers of nice guitar work on top of Eaton's steady vocals. This was my first show since Mattson has been on guitar and I really understand what people said early on about him extending the jams. A fine example of this was during Hard to Handle which just cooked with a fine extended jam in the middle. The guy next to me even said at the end of the song that he wished that had gone on for another 10 minutes. I agree. I really enjoyed this elective set. It really was a good mix of all the periods of Grateful Dead history and also had some of the Deads really good cover tunes. A couple from The Stones, The Band, etc.. Security was everywhere, but they were not being overly agressive. There were plenty of people smoking because it smelled really good in there the whole night. I know people have said this before, but the Casino Ballroom is just a kick ass venue. They don't make Barns like that anymore. Can't wait to see these guys and girl again. Another solid performance.
