Forum MVP Mango Posted May 23, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 04/16/78 Huntington Civic Center - Huntington, WV Set 1: Jack Straw Dire Wolf Cassidy Peggy-O Mexicali Blues Mama Tried They Love Each Other New Minglewood Blues Scarlet Begonias Fire On The Mountain Set 2: Samson And Delilah Ship Of Fools Estimated Prophet Eyes Of The World Drums Iko Iko Sugar Magnolia Encore: U.S. Blues filler- TWLWMYD, Werewolves Really beautiful looking and sounding theatre. I think I overheard that it was built in or around 1910...vegas can verify this. Staff was extremely nice and helpful. Unfortunately many in attendance came to talk and be drunk the whole show...fortunately the sound was so good that it went mostly unnoticed. First set was VERY strong, capping off with what might have been the best scarlet>fire i've ever seen. Soaring bliss. I've been waiting a long time for this one but it was extra worth the wait. Estimated>Eyes in the second set was just ridiculous. I would return to this venue:)

sudds94
YES, sweet venue, sweet show.....Thank you DSO!! Up on top level 1st set then had a really awesome spot in a box area on floor.....Lots of room, GREAT for dancing for my hubby and me!!! Energy was unbelievable and needless to say our legs were sore by the end. Unfortunately the last show till July for us (need to work on the yard and go to work sometime , but I have to say that every show was EXTREMELY amazing that we went to. Rob Eaton, your tie dye was the bomb!!! AWESOME. Peace, Kris
TJed
Any set closing with Scarlet/Fire is special, indeed. Looks like another grate one!
Forum MVP chuckvegas Posted May 23, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 A tad more later, but I just have to say that this was one of the most architecturally beautiful and acoustically perfect venues (at least from the perspective of this side) that I've seen in I don't know when. And yep, built in 1910 and designed by the gentleman who did the Met. As for the show - my God! Scarlet>Fire and Estimated>Eyes, and so much more! The limits of phone posting are very much with me now. I will just say that this show did full justice to the gentlemen who designed the original in 1978. Forum MVP Supplicated Velvet Thunder Posted May 23, 2012 Forum MVP Report Share Posted May 23, 2012 I believe that was the first time I made it almost an entire show in the Chuck Zone and I must say I am receptive to the addictive nature of space to spin. However, I did get a moment in front to hear Rick E say to Mango that it was the Huntington show and that I had been there when DSO last played it and though I felt a little like a newb (this happens a lot, used to it!) for not realizing it on my own to my defense I def would have before they announced it, when there was no Jerry ballad and a slow Iko.... forgetting that the show I saw before closed with scarlet>fire in the first set shows that I am not now quite as much as a newb as I used to be cause I would NEVER forget that now. T his is the closest to being at a Dead show and being there the night DSO does it as I will ever get as I didn't get to see any Dead shows.... seeing DSO do one I had already seen was really cool cause I get the real comparison and the sentiments in the above paragraph becomes possible. LookyLoo, didn't DSO do that show for your first show, at the Mish? I thought of you, man, you would have LOVED this one. Mango and I both felt it was one of the best scarlet>fires at setbreak and on the ride back to the hotel we decided it was one of the best prophet>eyes as well and combining that with one of the most solid yet explosive first sets and a second set that REALLY just gets plain dirty I have to say it was quite an excellent evening. OH yeah, we were up on the third tier and we could see Rob's fingers on the keys so well and I have to say that THAT is something to WATCH.... energy transfers in the hands are pretty apparent as it is what makes the stringed instruments make their sound but the energy passed around between Rob's hands as he plays is something from within that he is really using to play and I don't know what better words to use but it was COOL. I defended Mango's honor per our agreement to help each other with opposite sex dancing scuffles and all I have to say about it is that I know now that it doesn't matter WHERE you are in the venue, the brighter your inner light is beaming through the music, the more challenges occur with those who seek the same but don't know how to get it other than taking it...... well, we made it and the show just couldn't be ruined by a few little brats and their drunk boys. I am glad people are vending at DSO regularly again. I am glad the venues are selling out. This band deserves more credit than they ever get for keeping the heart in this music and I am really glad that all good things really do come in all good time. Marvelous filler segment and OH YEAH we got FAMILY drums which is ALWAYS a highlight and a treat (sometimes it gets a little disconnected and sometimes its really on and it was VERY on!) More please! (though I need not ask!)
