Did the Grateful Dead ever tell you what was going to happen during the show? The past few years of attending Dark Star Orchestra shows each new performance continues to be the best one I've ever experienced. I look forward reviews when I can't make it.

Dionysis to The Grateful Dead~ Creativity and Madness "The African Queen Meets The Holy Ghost" was an all day, $50.00 symposium presented at UC Berkeley on 11/1/86 with mythologists Joseph Campbell and John Perry lecturing in the morning for 3 hrs, then a one hour lunch followed by a 9O min space jam with Jerry, Mickey, Bobby Vega and Not Human after a 15 min break a 4 panel discussion with Jerry, Mickey, Joseph Campbell and John Perry discussing the musical experience. Jerry talked about industrial sounds that were like G chords or C notes as they assembled the crunching musical parts of space. There was logic to what seemed like nonsense to the untrained ear. The day ended with an hour long Q and A from us in the classroom. Study "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" where Campbell makes the point that all religions are similar. He was inspired by his 1st GD show in Oakland February '86 citing how the concert was a place where any and all kinds of people came to dance the celebration of life similar to what was happening during the age of Dionysus. GD concerts were not racists in any way. I remember a good friend, John (African American) whom I met on the east coast during the 85 spring tour that was my cohort for the daytime RR 85 series. Benjamin Franklin was careful in his writing, actually contracting young Thomas Jefferson to write the Constitution because he knew the written word was more dangerous than the spoken word and could be interpreted differently by the individual readers. Whereas the spoken word was safer because you can change the interpretation during the moment.

Strange grateful festival at NLRQ is selling tickets for their July 25-noon on the 27th without any lineup? I'm going to confirm that Hyryder is resident band on Friday when they play Brightside in Dayton. ET assured me two years ago that they were going to be there for awhile. My band Red Dirt will be playing in the pines all weekend. I'm trying to recruit a mandolin player and a banjo to join in with my violin player and me on acoustic. All are welcome. I'll have a few harmonicas and some bean shaker percussias

Space before a wheel is my favorite kind, usually chaotic and disjointed , truly the definition of a grateful dead show and then the calmness of the opening notes of 🛞. My nephew just moved from Bellingham to Boise. Great to read your review and so glad you made it ⚡

Very fortunate in this respect. My Deadbase III was gifted as a friend upgraded to IV and DB50 was a Christmas present from Anna back when they were original release prices in 2015. Both got a workout by BillK during the 6/24/85 recreation series in Cincinnati 🫠 with further investigations into the mysterious 1985 experiments.

🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 The first half drags out a bit; however, the live footage from 1968-1970 during the second half was especially nice on an IMAX screen with a theater sound system. It's all been out though, nothing new here. Kinda boring though if you're a hard core zep fan, more for the casual fan.

I can tell you every show in my 200+ history of GD and Jerry Band's and until I started teaching and had to learn 90 students' names I was able to tell you exact setlist for the first 150 shows. I have notebook pages of setlists from my Midwest and East Coast friends from fall 87-Spring 88 while I was still in school in Laramie and making weekend trips to the southern and northern California shows along with the whole Rocky mountain tour from RR to on the rail at Park West. Also have an 8x10 photo from 1985 that has the year's complete setlists on the back side. I'm a pen and paper lister at every show since 1992 through all the DSO shows. We got into a deal with a DAT taper that got us every 1990 show by going in on the equipment with him. Listed all Emmylou's until she started giving me her stage setlists in 1996. She gave me several handwritten setlists from her tour bus when there were no stage copies. A lot of lists came from running the D5 with the AKG460 hornhat FOB. I will admit that my first show, 2nd night RR 83, was a blur ~ tripped really hard at both my first two

Being in front of a musician playing Eyes of the World and them not knowing the lyrics is offensive. Eyes of the World and Fire on the Mountain are celebrations of life that merit a musical performance. My favorite director told me early on: "Get off my stage if you don't have the script memorized". The songs can't come to life until the musicians are able to let the music take them to places other than expected. Dark Star Orchestra playing an early 69 setlist or even a show as paramount as 6/24/85 is important for thoughtful consideration of where the experiment happens. Praise DSO and all the folks who show up at all the various playgrounds
