While the discipline process was collectively-bargained, the league has showed its ass here and got burned. While the NFL won't agree to any changes (right now), it makes sense to get an independent 3rd party committee to determine any suspensions or at the very least arbitrate any appeals. Having the league hear appeals on their own punishment is freaking ridiculous. Stick to the on-the-field transgressions and let another entity handle the off-the-field variety. If bounty-gate, Hardy, Peterson, Ray Rice, and now Brady didn't convince them that they can't navigate investigations and punishment properly, nothing will. It's time for them to get out of the 'off-the-field discipline' business and leave it to a committee that can be collectively bargained.
