The Applegate show wss fantastic as well. I'm a fan.
  2. I took a beautiful drive down to Arcata yesterday to see Rob Barraco and the California Kind. Once again I'm blown away. Such prolific jamming. I really dig Katie's songs and her playing/stage presence (it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful). Last night i was particularly impressed with the interplay between Pete Sears on bass and Barry Sless on guitar, obviously honed from years of playing together on David Nelson Band. To me, Cali Kind is just a better version of DNB. No offense to anyone. Maybe Rob can post the setlist? There was a Tennessee Jed... Second that emotion...Sears sang John Barleycorn, a definite highlight. I like katie's song ' don't let me down', which if I'm not mistaken sandwiched an eleven jam. Rob sang some of his songs, all enjoyable but whose names i know not Round two tonight at the Applegate Lodge. Stoked!

Everybody has some section of the music that they like less. Do we need to identify it negatively to justify our feelings? Everyone feels to some extent that their preferences and opinions make sense. What is being called "junkie music" (and is that for the listener or because you think Jerry was doing heroin in 76?) I think of as deep and reverent music, honoring and stretching out the moment. Fine if you don't like it but no need to brand it.

I just listened to this show yesterday! I've always thought that 'tea for Texas' began either 79 or 80....going to check now

My favorite jgb show...we've raged this one late night so many times. Best Let Me Roll It I've ever heard. Happy for those that were there.

76-78 jgb is my fav. Especially the slow stuff. "Making music together, in a world time forgot". I get lost in that shit. But....to each their own. I have my off nights while others have a great time....so many factors at play. The important thing to remember is that it's about perspective.
  7. I'd better start practicing my left hand then....
  8. I've got an accordion, I'll bring it to the next show.

Good query, Scotty. I don't think there is a name, not one I've heard- I think it's just part of the song. The progression goes C Bb F C This would fit perfectly into the shakedown jam. Forgive me bc my music speak is less than my ability to play but in Shakedown they are jamming over the C7 chord (key of F?). Naturally it would flow. Thanks, I'm taking this opportunity to learn GSET a little better

I always want to say more, to try and capture the magic felt in the fleeting moments of a show. While I dance to the cosmic sounds so many inspired thoughts traverse my mental landscape. For a minute everything seems to make sense. Generally after New year's run I've had so much fun and felt so much love that there is basically nothing left to say. Yet still I try... I won't try too hard. New year's run was amazing for me, Nye being the best. A perfectly crafted, multi-era, three set show. First set was short but hot- especially that shakedown. Set two was perhaps my favorite of the night. That 1/2 step was the best I've ever experienced. Comes a time outro jam really went places. And Dew? Set three was incredible in it's own right- especially That's it for the Other One. Twisting and turning, alchemizing (yes, I invented a new word), never getting boring while pushing the bounds of what and how music can be expressed. This band is clearly better than ever. And I thought they were the bees knees 15 years ago. I love you all very much! West coast shows beckoning soon.....

Interesting that you heard 'two notes of Stella'. I heard them tease the 'under eternity' part of blues for Allah. Sometimes I have an active imagination... Maybe they bring back Eyes for tonight. I hope so.

Who is to say what is Grateful Dead and what is not? Perhaps you are letting your opinions clog your ears.... Or perhaps I'm just an asshole'. Carry on~
  18. I vote for more terrapin nation or dso-jgb first sets...
  19. The Stars are aligning for me to catch Mason's bday! In the strangest of places...
  20. I saw them inside once when it was supposed to be outside. It was super humid and sweaty in that place. Outdoor is much preferred
  21. Only two hours away and.... NOPE! DEWEY sucks
  22. Yeah you wish you were here. The casino ballroom rocks- plenty of room even on a sold out night. Great crowd. Feeling the love~
