The death don't at Hampton is huge.

It's really big - Probably my favorite of the lot from that night.

Favorite parts.... About minute 3 into the song that night light must've shone out of Jerry's guitar like heavens light when The stone rolled back from the tomb and I feel my heart expand so fast it almost could crack into the spaciousness of everlasting being.

Bobby's voice is so purely on key it sounds like it could go on forever. They must've heard it on the west coast.

Brent once he exhausted his no mercy no mercy no mercy lets the key board sing on and it is the blues embodied!!!! That man had some soul!

Just started the Philly run. It's strong. Peggy-O has the extra jerry vocal flourish he finds later in life

Sweet! Dig in..

10/19 is about as good as it gets. 10/20 has the 1st California Earthquake - which was in honor of the Northridge quake victims (listen to Aud or Matrix). Great 2nd set pre-drums that is worth

the hour it takes to get through.

Philly was my favorite 'run' of fall '89. Wish I could got into Hampton .....

Great to read people's opinion on this show and others from that October tromping up and down the East Coast.

At the show, when they finished Death Don't and broke into Fantasy, I recall thinking "oh, I have heard this band before, but what I heard starting with DS and through Death Don't, that was not something I have experienced before in over 10 years of following these guys."  To be sure, the Fantasy-Jude was one of the best I have heard, but in the context of the evening, it was sort of like, "and now, back to your regularly scheduled programming . . ."

Well, when I started this thread I had no idea it would garner such attention, and I am glad that it has gotten back on track.  Maybe some of the nearly 750 views have been by DSO personnel who will be inspired to tip their hat to this awesome show on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary . . . :580:

I was blessed to be at 10/8&9/89. The highlight of 10/9 for me was Attics of My Life. Having not been played in over 15 years I didn't think I would ever see it. I was inside watching GD sound check Dark Star then Attics. When they played Dark Star I knew Attics would also be played that night! I do remember heavy Drums and it might be fitting for dso to recreate on the anniversary of this show and also Rob K's birthday . I have missed DSO's take on this show and will be at the show in CA if they do play it, either way I'm sure it will be a fun show.

In keeping with the drift and the turns this thread has taken (no jab at Sun, I love him like a brother not a cellmate) I will say that by the end of Attics I think I had a wet spot on my jeans

10/20 has the 1st California Earthquake - which was in honor of the Northridge quake victims...

It was actually Loma Prieta.  I was already living in California so I missed this ah-so-awesome tour, but we were sure they would pull out the stops back in The Bay Area at the Earthquake Benefit at Oakland Coliseum Arena.  But that wouldn't be The Grateful Dead!  No Help, no Dark Star, no Attics, not even a California Earthquake (which as it turns out had already been retired).   Great jam out of Terrapin that night though.  Midi city.

Brian peed himself during attics. Haha

I got my 1st Dark Star and Attics both on 10/16.  I don't think it was pee on that night.....TMI

After 3 sets. I'm leaning towards Philly over Hampton. Still have the Philly death don't and fantasy for direct comparisons. Philly pride

I think the Philly Fantasy is a slam dunk.  Death Don't not so much.  Although I recall a spine tingling Garcia vocal erruption on the final "It come into your house" on  the Philly version.  Maybe better solo in Hampton though??

All the guys here are gay for the grateful dead. I'm a nerd and a geek for this shit. I pride myself on the amount of hours I've spent studying and listening to the grateful dead.

I don't believe there was any any intention to be derogatory or combative on JohnA's part.

9/7/69 today. I've heard from same other dork stars and dead nerds that it is smoking.

I resemble that remark...

Have u seen the housewives there. Way too high maintenance. My entire touring budget would go towards collagen for their lips and bi-yearly boob jobs.

The whole state. Dirty beaches. Rude people. Poor drivers. Over vigilant police. The list goes on. Great dead shows and some great deadheads but even some of them have that jersey ass whole in them. We got that in Philly area too.
