  6. 30 years ago today. 9/3/88 Capital Centre, Landover, MD LTGTR, Feel Like A>Franklin's>Rooster, Peggy-o, MAMU>Big River, BirdSong. Box, Victim>Foolish>Women>Eyes>D>S>GDTR>Miracle>Dew. Sat. Nite, Ripple. Second show of the superb Fall 88 tour. The boys always seem to bring it strong for the nation's capital. The joint went berserk for the mythical Ripple, although I had vendor friends that left to set up during the Saturday Nite. We had an all time blowout at the apartment after this one. Praise DSO

  18. After 48 hours to process the events of Dark Star Jubilee, I believe I've got a handle on it. As a Jubilee rook, it had a tough act to follow in my head having done several NLQP through the years, which is an amazing piece of land to camp and dance. The Jubilee far exceeded my expectations and living in that reality for three days is truly bliss. The combination of friendly, happy people, from staff to attendees, and a spectrum of talented musicians creates an eden on earth. My homebase in VIP was a eight minute walk to the stage, 10 minutes to my friends in General RV. Access to showers and daily coffee was worth the upgrade to VIP in my opinion. I rode solo this Jubilee and met so many good people during the weekend. Rob, Rodney, and Greg from Columbus were right next to my site and we talked all weekend. I fulfilled a goal meeting Rude and it was totally organic, we were walking down to the stage at the same time. The circus is in town. Hung with old friends, MC and crew, Scott, sudds94, met new friends, Poetry Girl, Carly and Michelle from Buffalo. I spoke with dozens of others about our shared experience, Jubilee gives us all something in common, what a great conversation starter. Of course the heart of the Jubilee is the music. Being able to hear the music from basically any location on the grounds keeps you engaged all day. The non-DSO lineup impressed. Any band including the talented Rob B. was worth the walk to the stage. Seeing Melvin after all these years was a treat. Holly Bowling had a great take. Infamous Stringdusters killed a JackStraw. Getting the point? Any we have not even touched on the three well executed shows delivered by DSO. The recreation on Friday I'm sure was better than the original. After the afternoon deluge, the Saturday original was pure magic start to finish. The energy for the Sunday original was off the charts, especially after the boys gave us a Jerry show to warm up for a Dead show. This band of talented musicians continues to push the material to higher levels. Thank you DSO for three glorious days. Praise DSO.

    Penn's peak

In Northeast PA, on the top of a mountain lies a cathedral of music and dance that never disappoints and last nite was no exception. Confidence is high in the building when the band, before playing a note, informs the crowd how much they enjoy playing at this venue. What follows at Penn's Peak is a superb retelling of 10/21/83. Carefully culled from the songbook, set one rang the bell several times, MNS, the Cumberland that chased me upstairs for more real estate, which I was glad I had for the BIg RR>PL close. Whenever a Big RR pops up, isn't that always a good first set? Chunky second set led with an other wordly Scarlet>Fire, a duo this band hammers recently, it really lets the band shine. Great song selections post D/S, Truckin out of space a great set placement, probably not many Miracle>Touch set2 closers in the DeadBase. The icing on the top was the group of dancers some old friends, some new, that I shared the evening with, upstairs Phil's side. Great dancer to space ratios and serious hoedown energy start to finish. Fantastic to see you all. This band continues to nightly deliver everything a fan of this music could ask for. Jubilee on the horizon. Praise DSO.

Keep the faith, Mojo. You will eventually hit a hot patch of shows that are more toward your liking. Be thankful the music is still being performed at such a high level. Jubilee on the horizon. Praise DSO.
