  2. I’d be thrilled to see bobby join dso for 5 songs even if it is slow tempo. It’s Bobby FFS. The band loves it too. It lends credibility and the articles about Bobby playing with them get shared across dead sites leading to more potential ticket buyers in the future. It’s good for the fans and the band!!!! Eaton plays Bobby guitar. He’s happy to have a sit while his idol fills in.

  3. Starting out with a 69 to begin tour in Tahoe is the way to do it. Haven’t caught a 69 since Louisville in 2018 but caught 4 Straight of their 69s over an 18 month stretch from ‘16-‘18. This was actually the 1st 69 recreation since 11/19. Ugh. I knew I should have called social services and said I need a foster parent for 2 weeks so I can fly out west to see some shows. Those foster parents only make like $600 a month so that’s pro rated to $20 a day. That’s some cheap babysitting and pretty sure they are available at a moments notice. The Baby Kennel chain is pretty expensive in our area at like $700 a week. That would add up after a long tour plus they only play Christian music all day long but they don’t allow dancing as that leads to fornication. The boss likes Talking heads followed by Dead, so that’s a nonstarter and he dances a lot so don’t want him getting lashed while we are away.

  4. Perhaps an analogy. I am a huge fan of the Philadelphia 76ers. Maurice Cheeks is my all-time favorite player. He is a point guard and a hall-of-famer. My guess is that he is in his 70's. I would be pissed if the Sixers allowed him to run the point guard in a playoff game this year........out of respect, nostalgia, or otherwise. I am a Bobby freak. Always have been. His music is what gets me going the most of all. I am a musician and songwriter. He is my musical hero. But he's clearly lost his fastball. Sure......I'd love to see Bobby sit-in, but not at the expense of great music. I would rather Eaton stay on stage and play, and have Bobby there as an extra guitar player. When he chooses to take the reigns and sing a bunch of jerry songs and dictate the pace, that's not great music. I have chosen to forego Dead and Company for many of the same reasons many of you have chosen to skip it. And those reasons were on stage with DSO at the Warfield.

  5. If Phil sits in with DSO and sings Morning Dew, that's when we really got a problem. Maybe Eyes -> Dew.

  6. Peter Rowan was great. Everyone should go see him at Jubilee. Bob’s 5th time with DSO and first since (as PoetryGirl mentioned) 2014. Were they the best DSO shows I’ve ever seen? Maybe not. But it was a very special weekend at a very special place. I feel blessed to have been there.

  7. I don't know what to make of this thread... Night 1 at Warfield, Peter Rowan joins DSO and plays 7 and sings 5 of the 7 tunes of Set I and no one even mentions it. Bob Weir comes out and sings 5 and we are about 50/50 whether he should have come out on stage or not. I have seen the Morning Dew attachment above and it I too think it falls waaay short of how Jeff would sing it, and perhaps Bobby did over stay his invitation. But that is still cool beans that he come out and did what he did, and am glad DSO rolled out the welcome mat for Mr. Weir to do so.

  8. That is the worst analogy I’ve ever heard. Bobby being on stage didn’t cost dso a shot in the jam band finals. This is music, not a scored sport. The creator of this music sat in and for 40 minutes they played a slightly different style of music with a legend. You’d likely hate jazz fest as at 2am on Frenchmen St there are tons of collaborations where a member from 5 different bands come together to do something different. My suggestion is see more shows. The more you see, the more you crave something like this that’s a bit different. Gr8fulpair and I freaking loved when Donna joined the band in Birmingham for a Jerry band show. We saw something unique. Bobby has joined the band like 3x or so ever?

  9. 2010 Gratefulfest at the Ledges. Terrapin Nation does a Thur nite set. I think this was the one where you and I met Doc. I wanna say we met Flairblair at that one too.

  10. For sure it was at the Ledges. It might have been the first day and DSO was playing as “Terrapin Nation “ maybe the time the set list was all songs just picked out by the various members of the band and not Dead songs. I think Chuck can remember more of the details. peace and Love, Doc

  11. Mojo's got some hot lava going and I don't think its hyperbole. Seems a bit over the top but to me but let it fly, I guess. I wasn't there so I can't comment on the energy his presence created but I'll bet the band was pretty stoked. As I recall - Mojo has more than mild distaste for Elective setlists, which again - to each their own. Another discussion for another day - BUT - every time I see the word Mojo (mojo workin, mojo hand, mojo risin) I can't get this outta my borderline autistic mind I'm not trying to insult you, Mojo. I'm just a strange person.

  12. I think it’s awesome that Bob wanted to sit in with the band, and of course DSO, I am sure, was thrilled to have him. I think the bottom line is, if you made a career playing this music, and Bob Weir wants to sit in for a few songs, you let him, and he’s in charge for whatever he wants to do. I think it was gracious of Eaton to step aside to give Weir the space in the music he’s carved out for himself and is accustomed to occupying. It was probably cool to watch his hero sit in in his position in his band, and I’m sure it was a treat for the audience!
