  1. They did the same thing a week later, 12/26/69, in Dallas. My favorite show. Supposedly, the drummer was late, Not on the acoustic set. I read somewhere about the honesty of ‘ someone is late so, let’s play acoustic’. Some say it was a stunt of sorts so that the could dabble in acoustic. I’m glad they did. I love acoustic Grateful Dead, 1970 and 1980. Jerry’s style really comes through on acoustic. Listen to Jerry’s solo on ‘to lay me down’ off of Reckoning. Such gentle picking.
  2. I think it was Jerry who said it was ‘group music’ that they were trying to achieve. I read somewhere where Bobby describes that special moment when they successfully achieve what they were trying to get at, as basically ‘the music plays the band’. It definitely requires the audience to achieve that point. The draw for me is that every note matters. You have to listen to every note. Same song, different version, you gotta listen to every note. This is not background music.
  3. Right!? That piece gives me new found respect for Mayer. He gets it. A pretty good attempt at describing the indescribable.
  4. I’m going to take the hippy thing one step furthur. You might be a deadhead if.... when you take your clothes out of the dryer, the first piece you fold is your tyedye T-shirt. When, in conversation, someone mentions a city, your response is, the Dead played there. When, in conversation, your responses are lyrics to Grateful Dead songs.
  5. Actually, it was tonight. Just caught the high and wides album release concert at the Garfield theatre in Chestertown. Original bluegrass, they’ve been around for a while, pretty tight, used to be called a chester river runoff. They’re doing a few more album release shows in the near future on the Western shore, DC,Baltimore area. I would if I were you.
  6. I caught Billy Strings playing the underground on PBS a few months back. I was amazed by the band and especially the venue. I posted that on the Billy Strings thread. Some of us were talking about how it would be cool if DSO played the underground, and now they are. Pretty cool.
  7. Hey, Bix. My Dad’s a barber. I ‘ll cut your hair.
  8. I dig that filler too. Nice reminder of the season!
  9. I’m dying to but responsiblities must come first. I ‘be been known to hop in the truck at the last minute and head on to the show. Kinda what I do.
  10. Lmao. That happened at the beginning of the second set first night at the Hamilton this spring. Nobody around me acted like anything was wrong so I figured I was hallucinating.
  11. I’m liking help slip foolish heart. It’s a shame Jerry’s exercise regimen kept them from doing things like that. I’m glad Dark Star Orchestra has taken up the torch.
  12. Damn!, I was at the original show. I went into the spectrum as soon as the doors opened, walked down front like I belonged there. I sat in the ninth row on Jerry’s side. What a treat to be able to watch the guitarists hands, especially during the second set jam. My first child was born two weeks earlier, He spent a week in ICU. People couldn’t believe that I went, but hey, it’s my religion. I was going to church. Original ticket stub is $19.50.
  13. Jack Black cracks me the fuck up. If you grew up in the seventies, he lived in your neighborhood, went to your school. I watch School of Rock every time it comes around on my television.
  14. I thoroughly understand the taping/letting loose scenario. I prefer to go to shows alone, seeking the oasis of total untetheredness, ingest the music, soothe my soul.
  15. Looks like Eaton wasn’t singing. Is he ok? Yea, Lisa’s the best. Another fun set list. We are fortunate to have this band in our lives. Did you record it?
  16. I did notice in Philly that Eaton was coughing here and there, usually at the end of a song. Understandable, they give it their all.
  17. Damn! I made a wrong turn as soon as I left Philly, shouldn’t have gone home. Nice set list.
  18. Eaton was just wringing the hell out of his guitar. He Kept going up to the front edge of the stage while he was doing this, with a little bit of ‘take that, mother fuckers’ swagger. Skip bombed the fuck out of the place. Jeff’s vocals were sweet. Rob Barracco was doing some crazy shit during space with some kind of instrument or gadget, might have been a widget. 80’s Drums are great for shaking you to the core. Lisa got to shine during the encore. It was all good. Venue was chill. Upgrade from Electric Factory, definitely. The crowd was great. Met some more new friends, got to know some old friends better. I’m so glad I made it. I needed a show.
  19. I wasn’t at the original but I was at the original night before. That was the first night after the actual earthquake in San Fran. They opened up with Shakedown.
  20. Filler; that’s what love will make you do. Had a a blast last nite. The band is on fire.
  21. Reminds me of an idea I had for a license plate. 123 BACK
