July 6th 1986, hot, hot, hot and the lot had an undercover van with a mushroom window cruising the lot and arresting people who didn't even have the cash to get back to Maine. Stella Blu

July 6th, 1987 Indoor summer tour show when Jerry gave Heaven 's Door to the Grateful Dead (weird tour with three indoor shows, Roanoke the other 2).

Maybe the indoor arenas were evening the score with the stadium Dylan shows in that run?

Alpine is always a great way to remember TIGDH.

imagine the freedom to do what you wish and dance on July 7, 1984

Terrapin out of space, with Bobby heard calling to Jerry to start it.  Lovelight returns within a NFA sandwich.

Lemieux played this today, just listened to it.  Chunky soundboard, sounds great.

July 21, 1990.  Chicagoland, World Theater.  Night 1 of 3, the start of Brent’s final run.

Did that Tinley run.  Sound never got dialed-in - seemed to swirl all around the stadium.  Also - the ride into that place was a nightmare.  We had to abandon our car in traffic the first nite and then try to find it after the show.  Not recommended after lapping up some puddles.

The recordings sounded WAY better than I remembered

I didn’t have any audio issues until the second night, when I was 20 rows to Brent.  So we moved back to where we were on night 1, 15 rows to Phil, and didn’t leave for two days.

The massive swirl of the sound in that black cage-lookin pavilion was one intense trip.  Puddles, indeed.  I wasn’t sure if it was me, it was so distinct and bizarre, I’ve never had any experience like that at a show, before or since.  When I finally got my wits about me to say “fuck this, we’re bailing” (likely exact quote), it was like being set free.  Hey Pocky Way was a riot that second night (always was a riot, though).

I grew up about 20 minutes away in just over the Indiana border, so we took Route 30 and back roads instead of I-80.  We could see from the lot that people were bailing on their cars on the side of the freeway.

I think these were the first big concerts at the place, but I could be wrong about that and am too high to Google it right now.

All powerful Wiki says Cher 90/06/02.

Also mentioned the facility "barely completed".

Love fabulous tour stories.

Praise DSO.

1988-07-29 - Leguna Seca Recreation Area

This show gets the headlines for the China Cat > Crazy Fingers > I Know You Rider, more than understandable.  BUT - The meat of this Playin in the Band is/was one of the very best since 1974 - IMHO, anyway.  Give it a spin if you think that comment is hyperbole.  Lastly, the sound is bleeping incredible!  I’m not a true audiophile but I know it when I hear it

7-29-88 is also the only Playin' that went straight into the reprise since it happened a few times in '76 just after the hiatus.

This was my first show after moving to California.  Not a bad way to get introduced to West Coast living! (Still didn't quite make up for missing the Greeks a couple weeks earlier, however. Something about wisdom teeth having to be extracted...)

Garcia played Werewolves on all Halloween appearances, be it with the Dead or the JGB, every time there was a Halloween show from 1985 on.  Who can name them all without cheating?

Edit: I just did the mental exercise my self, and didn't recall there were Halloween performances by JGB in '86 and '93 - but both include Werewolves so my original statement holds true. I had only pulled the '87 though '92 versions from memory.

That 10/31/86 kaiser was preceded by 10/30/86 Robert Hunter opening for Kingfish with Bobby with a short but powerful 6 song set,:

Box (on his knees by the end of the plea)

Ruebin

Aim At the Heart

Promontory

Ship of Fools (the glare he gave us was one of importance)

Terrapin, all verses

The 10/30 Easy to slip was incredible compared to 10/31

10/31/86 JGB opening for Kingfish

11/1/86

Berkeley Community Theater

Creativity and madness class

The African Queen Meets the Holy Ghost with Joseph Campbell and John Perry lectures in the morning followed by a space jam with Jerry, Mickey, and not Human after lunch followed by a panel discussion on what happened in the jam followed by Q and A.

Our first time using a D5, they caught us going into 10/30 because no one was there except maybe 100

Love that 10/31/85 show, I guess there isn't an 85 show I don't love.

Looking forward to field reports from upcoming DSO experiments.

Hartford fest is no more. It'll be my first Jubilee!

Had to go to the American Express office in Richmond to get cash (pre ATM days) to pay scalper unheard of price of $50 for tix to this show after getting get face value for previous night and Columbia SC Halloween the night before that. One of the best 3 day runs in my GD adventures.

Here's my Annual lovefest with the 1990 MicNichols, Denver, CO run!  12/12 + 12/13 get all the shine for the A-Mazing song selection but don't sleep on 12/14!  12/14 has got a few of *the best I ever saw Live* :

To Lay Me Down, Foolish Heart, Women-R-Smarter, He's Gone, Knockin on Heavens Door

https://archive.org/details/gd1990-12-14.sbd.miller.89127.sbeok.flac16

Other than TLMD, a weird list of <best I ever saw> but they were crafted sooo damned well.  This whole run simply crackles with fierce energy from Jerry   12/12 had me 5th row, smack dab in front of Jerry (Thanks, Ruby!).

I'll Never, ever forget the time I had with my twin brother at these shows.  Till we meet again on the other side, Keith ❤️  I'll always treasure the memory of this time together - it was the Best of times.
